Two hundred and seventy-two blatantly lurking
Li Wei and her family didn't go anywhere over the weekend; they stayed home reading and taking care of the children.
As usual, Li Wei didn't get up this morning. Because of her long-awaited period of thirst, she had been sleeping in late for the past two days. However, since it was the weekend and she didn't have to go to class, she could sleep in a little longer without any qualms.
Ronaldo hasn't gone out for his morning exercise these past few days; he's just been doing a long warm-up workout at home during the day.
Although he was determined not to say anything, Li Wei guessed that the injury was quite serious. It was only because he was young that he recovered so quickly; otherwise, how could he have endured exercising only indoors?
The thought of this, especially seeing the faint scar, filled Li Wei with heartache.
After lunch, the two spent time playing with the children in the nursery.
The children are now over nine months old and crawl quite quickly and nimbly. In particular, the older one, Roy, and the younger one, Roll, can stand up by holding onto the crib railings. Roy can even take two or three steps before falling down.
Although Xiaoya is a little behind, her language skills are exceptionally strong; she can already say a few simple words like "daddy," "mommy," "auntie," and "yaya."
When Da Luo first heard the little girl call him "Daddy," he was overjoyed. His mouth was agape all day, and he kept repeating the same phrase like a broken record: "Call me Daddy! Call me Daddy!" -_-|||
He wouldn't let go of the little girl once he picked her up, even during lunch, as if he wanted her to be an extension of himself. This continued until the little girl, unfortunate enough to wet him, finally got him abruptly kicked out and forced to go upstairs to change. -_-|||
As the child's mobility improved, he became a bit more difficult to take care of. Li Wei was worried about a shortage of manpower, so she had a talk with Sister Wei before going to Shanghai in May. Sister Wei became a full-time employee and lived there long-term, just like Aunt Gao. Li Wei also gave her a corresponding raise in salary.
It's estimated that the child will be even more difficult to care for in a few months when they start walking. Li Wei, seeing that Sister Zhang has a child at home and can't leave, has already asked Aunt Gao to find another nanny, someone who can stay long-term. As for Sister Zhang, she can work full-time day shifts to cover for Sister Wei and the new nanny. Sister Wei and the others can also get two days off each month. After all, taking care of a child all day is quite tiring.
As a result, the number of rooms in the house became somewhat tight. Although it wasn't to the point of not having enough accommodations, if a few guests came, it would immediately seem insufficient.
Especially the elders of the Luo and Li families, and Li Lin and Li Lianhui. They might show up at any time. These are not people you can fool the landlords with.
Don't be fooled by Li Lianhui's infrequent stays—only two or three days a week. Aside from dust and dirty clothes, he wouldn't allow anyone to touch anything else in his room. He'd even thrown a tantrum twice for it. This scared Aunt Gao so much that she would specifically instruct the cleaning lady and even watch over her whenever she was cleaning, just in case this little devil Li Lianhui touched anything.
Unfortunately, his stuff was incredibly fragmented. A bunch of parts, screws, wires, and the like. It was impossible to tell which were junk and which were useful.
Li Wei and Ronaldo, one a keen athlete and the other with numerous financial matters to attend to, both require a large, quiet, and private space.
But there's no rush about the house; there's still time to arrange it slowly, especially since the school final exams are at the end of June, and we need to study hard before then.
Moreover, since Li Wei's house has a small garden on the first floor, it's very convenient for the children to go out for ventilation and sunshine, so there's no need to worry about the air quality at home.
Da Luo also has exams to take. Li Wei discussed it with him that evening, and he also thought it best to wait until after the final exams to discuss the house. They figured they weren't short of money anyway, and they couldn't let the children suffer, especially Xiao Ya, hehehe.
When Li Wei saw that the man had started to go into a dazed state and started laughing like an idiot again, she slammed her hand on the desk and said, "Read your book, read your book. What are you laughing like an idiot for? It's just that the little girl can call you 'Dad' now. She could call you 'Mom' a while ago. I'm not as excited as you. You'll be happy for a few days and then it'll be over. You're going on and on."
The man grinned broadly and said, "I'm so excited! For the past ten years or so, I've been the one calling my dad 'Dad,' but nobody calls me 'Dad.' There are people who call me 'Grandpa,' but they only do that because I've beaten them up. Unlike this little girl, she's my own child. How could I not be excited?"
Li Wei -_-|||
Ignoring the newly born idiot father, she lowered her head and continued reading, but still muttered, "I should have given birth to him."
Da Luo: "Okay, let's cooperate, let's cooperate. I'll provide the seeds, you provide the land, I'll till the fields and you..."
Li Wei: "Shut up and read!" This guy starts going off-topic after only a few sentences. If he keeps going, he'll probably end up talking about birds in the tree going to bed together.
However, from then on, the first thing that this guy did every day when he got home was to run to the nursery to find Xiaoya to confirm his new identity. Xiaoya herself admitted it, but it was very different from what others believed.
Every day, Li Wei would also set aside time to play silly games with the children, such as putting things in and taking things out of bottles. Li Wei had instructed Aunt Gao and Sister Wei to play these games with the children whenever they had free time.
Each stage has games designed according to the child's developmental characteristics and interests. Li Wei's family now has a rich collection of parenting books. Not only does she take the time to read them, but Aunt Gao and Sister Wei also read them. Li Wei simply put a pretty little bookshelf in a corner of the nursery, along with some fairy tale books with beautiful illustrations, so that adults and children can read them at any time.
Monday arrived quickly. Li Wei got up early. Martial law had been imposed the night before, so there was no exercise. Li Wei was finally able to get up early and was full of energy. She did some yoga and even read a book before breakfast. The children's schedules were now very similar to adults'. After Li Wei and Da Luo had breakfast, the children were still sleeping.
Mondays are usually busy with classes, with the morning consisting of core courses. Li Wei got off the car at the school gate, and Da Luo drove off back to school.
Li Wei secretly felt relieved, and thinking about what happened on Saturday made her breathe a sigh of relief.
As they were talking, someone started getting handsy, and somehow they ended up on the bed. They made love for most of the night, but the matter was dropped because Li Wei didn't get up until almost noon the next day.
Da Luo never mentioned it again, and Li Weile pretended not to know. Otherwise, if he had really come to the school, it would have been enough to upset her.
Li Wei was clearly too happy too soon. In the first intensive reading class, just as the class started, her advisor, Teacher Wang, brought in three people. As soon as they entered the classroom, they greeted the teacher: "Teacher Li, these three are students from the Criminal Police Academy. They may have some foreign affairs missions recently, so they need to come here to strengthen their English for a while. Could you please take care of them?"
It's just that I'm basically just sitting in on the class, so the teacher naturally has no problem with that. It's just a little strange, though, since the Criminal Investigation Academy doesn't lack English teachers.
When Li Wei saw the three people, she collapsed helplessly onto the table. They were none other than Da Luo, Zou Yulong (who had a great fondness for the girls from the Teachers' College and the Fine Arts College), and Bi Yongsheng.
That's some serious buddy!
They even talked about foreign affairs missions. That's ridiculous. Forget about foreign affairs missions, even a regular, worthless mission wouldn't be their responsibility.
If Da Luo didn't have someone protecting him, he wouldn't have been assigned such a life-threatening mission. Now he's even getting a foreign affairs mission; Li Wei is speechless.
However, the three roommates were clearly mentally strong. Their expressions were very serious, and they were carrying notebooks, textbooks, and pens. They were neatly dressed and looked very dashing, as if they were attending a war meeting. No one could suspect that they had come here to use their position for personal gain.
Li Wei climbed up from her desk, focused on her textbook, and pretended not to see anything. She didn't know them, this bunch of unreliable people.
The morning consists of two large periods and four smaller periods: one for intensive reading and the other for audiovisual oral communication.
There's not much to say about intensive reading; the whole book is almost finished. It's just a matter of explaining words, phrases, sentences, and texts. But nowadays, teachers mostly teach oral English, so it's more accurate to call it a disguised oral English class rather than intensive reading.
Needless to say, spoken English was taught entirely in English, but they actually covered a lot of grammar and idioms that could be learned in intensive reading classes. Language classes, at their core, all serve the purpose of listening, speaking, reading, and writing, especially listening and speaking; they all stay true to the same principle.
I heard that Li Wei has improved since last year, and classes are generally quite easy for her. The only thing that's not easy is her vocabulary; she always feels that she hasn't mastered it enough, even though she has already far surpassed her classmates in vocabulary due to her extensive reading.
But often, the full ears of wheat bow their heads, while a half-baked expert rattles around. The more one knows, the more aware one is of one's shortcomings. Therefore, Li Wei concentrates very well in class, listens attentively, and actively participates in discussions and interactions with the teacher.
This put aside the matter of a certain professor sitting at the back of the classroom looking for an 'insider'.
After finishing Agan's oral and listening practice class, Li Wei stretched in the first seat of the language lab and actually felt a bit tired.
Tang Ying, Li Wei's deskmate, and Xu Ting and Ma Liya, who were behind her, couldn't hold back any longer. During the break between classes, they came over and asked Li Wei furtively, "VV, isn't that your boyfriend? We haven't seen him pick you up lately. What's going on between you two? Is something wrong?"
Li Wei remained calm: "Don't talk nonsense. We're fine, there's no crisis. He's here for further studies. Let me tell you, don't mess with them. See that slightly thinner one? That guy likes pretty girls like you. If any of you are interested in him, go ahead. I guarantee you'll be hooked on the first try. Otherwise, don't look at him too much. Even one glance will make him misunderstand, and he'll cry and demand you take responsibility. You won't be able to shake him off then." Li Wei was referring to Zou Yulong, who spent his free time chasing girls.
Maria was a little skeptical: "Really? They don't look like it. Look at them in their uniforms, they look so handsome."
"That's a wolf in sheep's clothing," Li Wei sneered. "He is quite handsome, but you can go and try it if you don't believe me. Whether someone is handsome or not doesn't seem to have anything to do with their personality."
Maria and Xu Ting glanced at the three men, each with a solemn expression and sharp eyes, looking at the students in the class as if they were criminals, which made them feel uneasy.
The two shook their heads almost simultaneously: "Let's forget it. I'm afraid they'll arrest me. Even though we didn't do anything wrong, what if they torture us into confessing?"
Li Wei praised appreciatively: "That's right. People's hearts are made of iron, but they are not. The law is like a furnace. Once you're in their hands, they won't let you go until all the bad things you've done since you were a child are thoroughly exposed. You'd better be careful."
So the few people in the class who knew Da Luo or were familiar with Li Wei all remained silent.
Until the morning classes are over.
