These are things that happened after New Year’s Day, so let’s not talk about this matter for now.
New Year's Day, the first day of the new year, at the Fushan Wholesale Market near the banks of the Kun River.
From Zhenxing Avenue, heading south along the west bank of Kun River, tall colorful flags are fluttering along the way, and novel signboards are guiding people on the way forward.
One kilometer to the south, a tall archway bears the words "Fushan Wholesale Market" in glittering gold, written in Yan style, with a couplet hanging on either side:
Invigorate the economy and provide convenience to the people.
After passing the archway, there is a large planning map. This color planning map made by spray painting was specially shipped back from Shanghai by a special vehicle. It is 12 meters long and 8 meters high. At the top it says: Fushan Wholesale Market Planning Map. Each word is half a meter square. It can be seen clearly from forty meters away. Two or three hundred people are standing about ten meters away from the sign, pointing at the planning map.
The planning map clearly marks the market divisions with different colors:
There are sixteen sub-markets including the non-staple food area, shoes and hats area, cloth area, clothing area, home textile area, general merchandise area, cultural and sports area, furniture area, electrical appliances area, daily chemicals area, hardware area, electromechanical area, and building materials area, as well as two convenience markets: Fushan Market and Fast Food Street.
The district market mainly deals with wholesale of bulk commodities, while the two convenience markets mainly serve the small vendors in the surrounding area.
Each zone has a relatively simple location map and introduction, explaining the location, area, number of stalls and the main range of goods sold.
Warm reminders can be seen on every street and in every market: No Smoking, Anti-Theft, Three Guarantees at the Door, Quality Assurance, Fair Trade, Complaints and Reporting, etc. It makes people feel that the management is still very warm and strict.
The stalls are all located under the steel structure shed and face outwards. Although it is hard to say that they are not exposed to the wind, at least they are not exposed to the rain. Each market has about 20 boutique stalls with white walls and bright windows. The value of the goods is instantly increased especially under the lights.
Due to the huge investment in early publicity, companies from different regions come to set up stalls and prepare to promote their own products. The boutique stalls are reserved for companies with special requirements. Their products either require clean sanitary conditions or are expensive. Of course, there are also companies that leaders privately arrange for care.
80% of the booths and all the boutiques have already been booked. With three months of free service, who wouldn't want to come? It's a sin not to take advantage of a good deal!
If we collect half of the fee after three months, who knows whether the market can hold on until then?
This is the general mentality of the vast majority of companies that come to the wholesale market to test the waters.
In order to ensure the success of this market, Lao Zhu and Liu Haibo put all their efforts into publicity. Liu Haibo not only invited university professors of advertising and marketing to help with planning, but also invested huge sums of money in advertising in party newspapers and periodicals in surrounding provinces for more than a month. In the words of marketing manager Ms. Shao Shifang, money was pouring out every day.
Second Aunt was responsible for gathering a team of more than 30 people to promote the product door-to-door to businesses in counties and cities across the region. They were told not to go back unless they came to set up stalls, so people had no choice but to agree.
Who was it that Sun Zongyuan came up with the bad idea: in addition to a very small basic salary, marketing staff receive bonuses calculated based on the number of booths they sell at and the length of time they work.
County Party Secretary Wang Peizhong approached Deputy Commissioner Shen Congde and submitted a proposal to the leaders of the Prefectural Party Committee and the Administrative Office. Finally, the Prefectural Party Committee and the Administrative Office jointly issued a document:
It is required that all industrial enterprises in the region must set up stalls in the Fushan Wholesale Market for at least three months. The regional disciplinary inspection commission should strengthen supervision of counties and cities, and take appropriate action against counties, cities and enterprises that are perfunctory in their duties.
The remaining stalls were filled up all at once, and there was still a shortage of more than 260 stalls, so we had no choice but to build a new batch urgently.
In the past five days, people from surrounding areas have come one after another to request stalls. What should we do if the market is full?
We can’t refuse people from coming. We’ve been advertising in the early stages to welcome them!
It is too late to rebuild, and it is too cold to build.
Manager Shao Shifang urgently made a batch of iron booths and placed them on both sides of the road, which foreign merchants could understand.
In this era, there was no "Good Days" sung by Song Zuying yet. What was floating in the market was "March of the Athletes" and a few other popular songs.
The quality of the speakers is not very good. The sound produced not only has noise but also the sound of electric current. However, it cannot cover up the happy atmosphere of people launching the market.
Anyang County issued a special notice, requiring all county-level units to dispatch half of their staff and each township to dispatch 300 people to participate in today's market launch ceremony. Privately, Li Jianguo also greeted the main leaders of Ganhe City and the six townships around Anyang County, and many more people came.
The county public security bureau also dispatched 100 uniformed police officers and joint defense team members and 200 plainclothes officers to jointly maintain market order. The public security bureau chief and two deputy chiefs personally took charge of the command. For the next three months, a member of the bureau’s party committee led a team to maintain public order every day.
Someone asked, "Where are the urban management officers? Why aren't they here?" I replied, "Brother, the urban management team hasn't even been established nationwide."
According to the Public Security Bureau's estimate, there are approximately 30,000 people participating in today's market launch ceremony.
The market is packed with people. There is an old saying:
The population is over ten thousand, and it’s endless!
At 10:18, the market launch ceremony began: Li Jianguo presided over the ceremony, County Mayor Sui Gang gave a speech, and Market Manager Shao Shifang gave a speech.
Then, District Commissioner Shen Congde, County Party Secretary Wang Peizhong, District Industrial and Commercial Bureau Director, Economic and Trade Commission Director and others came on stage to cut the ribbon!
The ceremony was over in less than twenty minutes, and then thirty thousand firecrackers were set off. Amidst a puff of smoke, the cultural performance began, and the stage immediately became crowded with people.
