Chapter 19: Business is booming, a small episode
"Dad, I plan to prepare more ingredients tomorrow and sell them until around eight o'clock in the evening before coming back. You may have to deliver the ingredients to me twice tomorrow. I will put them at home after they are prepared. Our house is cool in summer. As long as we turn on the fan, the cooked pearls will not go bad even if they are not put in the refrigerator. As for the black tea, you can help me make a pot when you come back at noon, let it cool down, and then deliver it to me after get off work in the afternoon. Is that okay?" Zhang Wanwan said to Zhang's father.
Zhang's father was very worried when he heard this. "Girl! Are you going to expand your business? Isn't that too much work?"
Zhang Wanwan shook her head. "No, I feel very happy. It makes me feel at ease to earn money through my own labor."
Father Zhang started to worry again, "You can't give up studying just because you're setting up a stall!"
Zhang Wanwan was stunned for a moment, then she smiled, "Dad! You are too worried! How could I not study just to run a stall? I still want to get into a prestigious university!"
Father Zhang felt relieved when he heard this. He thought that it was only the first day, and Zhang Wanwan might not be able to bear it after being busy for ten or twenty days. By then, she would understand how difficult life is.
Unfortunately, Zhang's father underestimated Zhang Wanwan's ability this time. She gritted her teeth and persevered for half a month without even complaining. Her milk tea stall business was getting better and better, so Zhang's father had to help her build a bigger stall. The tricycle could no longer accommodate the stall, so they could only rent a corner in the store selling mineral water. It just so happened that stores selling bottled mineral water were different from those selling clothes and accessories. They all delivered water, so it didn't matter if the store was dirty. Besides, Zhang Wanwan paid her 500 yuan a month, and the boss was happy to earn extra money, so how could he refuse?
Zhang Wanwan also went from closing her stall at 4 o'clock in the beginning to not being able to leave until 9 o'clock in the evening. Every time her father brought her food in the evening, she would stay to help.
On this day, Zhang Wanwan was setting up her stall as usual. It happened to be the weekend of the summer vacation, and the flow of people in Century Plaza was several times more than usual. She was very busy. Fortunately, Zhang's father was on vacation and came to help early in the morning.
The father and daughter were busy all day and night when they suddenly heard a shout, "Zhang Wanwan! It's really you!"
Zhang Wanwan looked up and saw the little face behind the mask frowning. She nodded and greeted casually, "Cousin."
"Why are you setting up a stall here?" Zhang Nini widened her eyes exaggeratedly, looking at Zhang Wanwan and then at Zhang's father, with a look of disgust, "Aren't you ashamed?"
Zhang Wanwan was immediately unhappy and replied coldly: "I don't think it's shameful to make money through your own efforts. It's better than being useless and asking your parents for money!"
Zhang Nini's chest was filled with nameless anger, and she asked loudly, "What do you mean? How do you talk to me like that? I am your cousin after all. Is that what your parents taught you?"
What Zhang Wanwan hates most now is when people say that Zhang's father and mother didn't teach her well, so she immediately retorted, "You also know that you are my cousin. My father, your uncle, is right here, but you didn't even call him or say hello politely. I would like to ask how my uncle and aunt taught you!"
"You" Zhang Nini directly started to pull Zhang Wanwan.
Zhang Wanwan was so angry that she yelled, "Get lost! If you want to buy something, pay for it. If you don't want to buy anything, get out of my way. You are not welcome here. Don't come to get in my way! Don't think I will give in to you like before. I am not afraid of a fight anymore!"
As she said that, Zhang Wanwan picked up the bamboo pole beside her and hit the wall hard. Her ferocious look really intimidated Zhang Nini. Although she was rude and arrogant, she had no confidence that she could escape unscathed if a fight really broke out, not to mention that Zhang's father was still here.
A man who knows the current situation is a hero. Zhang Nini ran away with gnashing teeth, leaving only one harsh word, "Okay! You are awesome, just wait for me!"
Zhang Wanwan threw the bamboo pole in her hand with disdain and curled her lips, "It's the same thing every time. I don't know what she can make me wait for?"
The people who were watching the excitement finally came to their senses and gave Zhang Wanwan a thumbs up. They also started clamoring to buy milk tea, and the quiet stall was suddenly filled with noise.
Father Zhang waited until the guests left before speaking to Zhang Wanwan, "You shouldn't have treated Zhang Nini like that. Dad knows she's been spoiled since she was little and often bullies you. Someone with her temper will suffer a great loss sooner or later. There's no need for us to argue with her. Look, she just treated me like air and didn't say a word! There's no need."
Zhang Wanwan handed over the milk tea the customer had ordered, turned her head to look at Zhang's father and retorted, "Dad, I know that kind people are often bullied. Whether she suffers or not has nothing to do with me, just don't provoke me. I was stupid and was ordered around by her before, but now I see through it. I can't be polite to that woman Zhang Nini, otherwise she will definitely take advantage of me. Look, does she dare to do this to my brother? It's because I was too easy to bully before!"
Father Zhang was not a good talker. After being rebuked by Zhang Wanwan with a few words, he was speechless and could only work in silence.
As for Zhang Nini, she had a rare chance to go shopping on holiday, but she didn't expect to run into Zhang Wanwan and her daughter setting up a stall. She didn't expect Zhang Wanwan to embarrass her in public. Zhang Nini was so angry that she cried all the way home.
It happened that Zhang Jianguo and Huang Guilian were also taking a break. The couple were making tea and watching TV at home. When they saw Zhang Nini coming back crying, their faces changed.
Huang Guilian started to get angry before she knew what happened to Zhang Nini. "My baby, who bullied you? Tell me, and I'll avenge you!"
Zhang Jianguo also felt distressed, but he didn't want Huang Guilian to be so unreasonable, so he asked gently: "What happened? Who bullied you?"
"It's that Zhang Wanwan!" Zhang Nini cried angrily and sat down between Zhang Jianguo and Huang Guilian.
Huang Guilian's face was dark and she was furious. However, because Zhang Wanwan was Zhang Jianguo's niece, she did not say what she was going to do to Zhang Wanwan in front of Zhang Jianguo. Instead, she scolded, "Aren't you very powerful? How could you be bullied by that girl? You are a few years older than her for nothing. You are so useless!"
"Mom! Why do you say that to me!" Zhang Nini felt more and more aggrieved, and tears fell down her face.
Zhang Jianguo glanced at the mother and daughter. He knew his niece's personality very well. He didn't believe that Zhang Wanwan bullied Zhang Nini. His previous anxiety and distress disappeared. Instead, he patiently asked, "Then tell me how your cousin bullied you? Did she hit you or scold you?"
"She threatened me! She threatened me with a bamboo stick and told me to get out! Woo woo" Zhang Nini cried so sadly.
Zhang Jianguo was surprised, and Huang Guilian obviously didn't believe it either. Although she looked down on that poor relative, she had to admit that they were all honest people. She had met Zhang Wanwan several times and she didn't seem like someone who would do such a thing.
