It can be said that Xu Kuo is the most mysterious person Wen Shu has ever met. First, he was very good at English translation, and now he also claims to know acupuncture. Since these doctors are helpless, they might as well let Xu Kuo give it a try. If any problems arise, they can stop him in time.
Shi Jixing opened his mouth, wanting to say something, but was glared at by Secretary Wen's stern eyes and could only stomp his foot angrily, swallowing his anger.
The three of them entered a ward, where a doctor wearing glasses and a white coat was bending over to check on Wenwen's condition on the bed.
"Dr. Li." Upon seeing the visitor, the doctor quickly stood up and respectfully greeted Secretary Wen.
"How is Wenwen?" Secretary Wen asked anxiously.
Dr. Li frowned, his face grave, and shook his head: "The situation is not optimistic. The patient has a persistent high fever, is delirious, and has already shown signs of shock."
Xu Kuo stepped forward and carefully observed Wenwen's complexion. He saw that her face was as pale as paper, her lips were chapped, her forehead was covered with fine beads of sweat, and her breathing was rapid and weak.
This is clearly severe dehydration, coupled with symptoms of narcissin poisoning!
Xu Kuo understood immediately. He shoved aside the still-rambling Dr. Li and said, "Get out of the way!"
Dr. Li stumbled, almost losing his balance, and looked at Secretary Wen with a puzzled expression: "Secretary Wen, this..."
“This is my friend, Xu Kuo,” Secretary Wen explained. “He knows a little about acupuncture, let him give it a try.”
"Acupuncture?" Wenwen opened her eyes weakly.
Upon hearing this, Dr. Li immediately flew into a rage.
He pushed up his glasses and sneered, "Secretary Wen, are you desperate and grasping at straws? This is daffodil poisoning. Even we Western doctors are helpless. What can traditional Chinese medicine do? Besides, this kid looks like a country bumpkin. What medical skills could he possibly know?"
Xu Kuo snorted coldly and retorted without any politeness: "If you're not capable, then don't spout nonsense. You can't cure it yourself, so you won't let others cure it?"
Dr. Li was furious, his face turning ashen. He pointed at Xu Kuo's nose and shouted, "You...you're utterly ungrateful! If anything happens to the patient, can you take responsibility? Someone, throw him out of here!"
Seeing that the situation was about to spiral out of control again, Secretary Wen hesitated. After all, lives were at stake. If Xu Kuo really was just a half-baked expert and delayed Wenwen's treatment, it would be too late to regret it.
She never expected Wenwen's current situation to be so dire.
"Mom, let him try." Just then, Wenwen's weak voice rang out.
Dr. Li was startled: "Wenwen, you...you mustn't be foolish! This kid is obviously unreliable; he'll only cause you trouble!"
"I believe in Brother Xu Kuo." Wenwen looked at Xu Kuo with eyes full of trust.
Dr. Li was utterly speechless. He sighed helplessly and could only step aside: "Fine, since you insist on letting him try, then let him try! But I'm warning you," he pointed at Xu Kuo and said fiercely, "Don't do anything reckless, or I'll send you to the security team!"
Xu Kuo didn't take Dr. Li's threat to heart at all. He walked to Wenwen's bedside and took out a row of silver needles from his pocket.
"What are you doing?" Shi Jixing exclaimed in surprise when he saw Xu Kuo start to unbutton Wenwen's clothes, his face full of disbelief.
The people in the ward were also stunned, their eyes wide as they stared intently at Xu Kuo.
"Acupuncture? How can you insert needles without taking off your clothes?" Xu Kuo rolled his eyes in annoyance.
Wenwen's face flushed red to her ears. She lowered her eyes shyly but did not stop Xu Kuo.
"You all should leave." Secretary Wen realized what was happening and quickly ushered everyone out of the ward, leaving only herself, Dr. Li, and Xu Kuo.
Xu Kuo took a deep breath, focused his mind, and swiftly inserted the silver needles into Wenwen's acupoints.
Dr. Li watched coldly from the sidelines, letting out a disdainful snort. As a Western-trained doctor who had returned from studying abroad, he didn't believe in traditional Chinese medicine at all, let alone unorthodox methods like those of Xu Kuo.
“Secretary Wen, don’t be fooled by this kid,” Dr. Li began to boast about the prowess of Western medicine. “We Western medicine emphasizes science and evidence; every step has a rigorous theoretical basis. Unlike traditional Chinese medicine, which is all mystical and relies entirely on guesswork…”
He kept belittling traditional Chinese medicine and Xu Kuo, trying to make Secretary Wen realize his mistake.
Secretary Wen was upset by what Dr. Li said. Looking at her daughter on the hospital bed, she was filled with anxiety, fearing that something might really happen to Wenwen.
"ah--"
The next moment, Wenwen screamed.
Secretary Wen and Dr. Li were startled and rushed to the bedside.
At the last needle insertion point, a spurt of black blood gushed out, staining the white sheets red.
Dr. Li's pupils constricted sharply, and he exclaimed in shock, "What...what's going on? There's...there's bleeding!" His face turned ashen, and he reached out to pull out the silver needles that Xu Kuo had stuck into Wenwen's body.
Xu Kuo reacted quickly, grabbing Dr. Li's wrist and pulling him sharply. Dr. Li staggered and almost fell, becoming completely immobilized.
"You...you let me go!" Dr. Li was shocked and furious, struggling desperately, but she could not break free from Xu Kuo's grip.
"Stop! Xu Kuo, stop!" Secretary Wen panicked, his voice trembling, "Quick...quickly stop the needles! Wenwen, Wenwen, she..."
"Wenwen, how are you? Don't be afraid!" Dr. Li was sweating profusely, veins bulging on his forehead. "Tell Uncle Li if you feel unwell!"
Wenwen suddenly spoke, her voice soft but filled with surprise: "Mom, I don't feel bad, I feel... very comfortable. It's just... it's just that this black blood scared me."
"Comfortable?" Secretary Wen was taken aback, then overjoyed, grabbing Wenwen's hand. "Wenwen, do you really feel comfortable? Is there anything that's uncomfortable?"
"Really, Mom, I feel... much more relaxed," Wenwen repeated, her eyes bright.
Dr. Li was dumbfounded. He stared wide-eyed at Wenwen as if she were a monster. How could this be? Narcissus poisoning, and so much black blood, and she actually felt comfortable?
Only then did Xu Kuo slowly release Dr. Li's hand. Dr. Li, ignoring his numb wrist, rushed to the instrument and carefully examined the various data.
Secretary Wen's heart leaped into her throat. She stared intently at Dr. Li's face, her voice trembling, "Dr. Li, Wenwen... how is she?"
Dr. Li stared at the instrument, his expression shifting from shock to confusion, then to ecstasy, and finally settling on a complex look of disbelief.
"This...this is impossible...this is simply a miracle!" Dr. Li looked up abruptly, his voice trembling. "Secretary Wen, Wenwen's various indicators...all returned to normal! The toxins in her body...the toxins have disappeared too!"
