Chapter Thirty-One: High-Quality Fish Food

He stammered, his voice trembling, as if he couldn't believe his eyes.

This output is absolutely terrifying!

In the distance, several villagers who were busy in their own fields caught a glimpse of the commotion out of the corner of their eyes, and as if drawn by a magnet, they involuntarily gathered around.

"Wow! Goodness!"

"This sweet potato, is it perhaps sentient?"

"My God, it's huge!"

"That kid Xu Kuo actually managed to grow sweet potatoes?"

"It's not just that it's grown, this... this is an absolute bumper harvest!"

"Tsk tsk, this wasteland, whoever tried to cultivate it before would lose money, but he actually turned it into something!"

"I've farmed all my life, and this is the first time I've ever seen such a big sweet potato. It's an eye-opener!"

The villagers chattered amongst themselves, their voices filled with amazement and envy.

Everyone craned their necks, practically sticking their eyes to the pile of sweet potatoes.

The village chief squeezed through the crowd. He stood with his hands behind his back, his face alternating between pale and flushed.

When Xu Kuo asked him for land, he secretly laughed at him for being foolish. Now, it seems he's been slapped in the face, his words stinging with embarrassment. This mountain of sweet potatoes, gleaming brightly, makes one wonder who the real fool really is.

Xu Kuo, with his sharp eyes, spotted the village chief in the crowd at a glance, and his mind immediately lit up.

This is like a pillow delivered just when I was sleepy; now I have a place to fish!

He figured he couldn't possibly move all those sweet potatoes by himself, no matter how hard he tried. He figured he might as well do the village chief a favor and get the fishpond deal done while he was at it.

"Village Chief, you've come at the perfect time!" Xu Kuo greeted him with a smile. "Look, I have so many sweet potatoes, I can't carry them all back by myself. Could you please help me get rid of them?"

The village chief was taken aback, not expecting Xu Kuo to come to him on his own initiative and make such a request.

His eyes darted around, and he quickly started making plans in his mind.

"This...this sweet potato was planted by you, how can I interfere?" The village chief feigned nonchalance, but his tone betrayed a hint of hesitation.

"Hey, don't be so polite with me!" Xu Kuo said sincerely. "Since you've helped me with this, I can't let you do it for nothing. Take these sweet potatoes, consider it my way of showing my respect to you!"

The village chief's heart skipped a beat; these conditions were indeed tempting.

But then he thought, if Xu Kuo could grow so many sweet potatoes even on wasteland, he might be able to make something of that puddle too, so he couldn't just agree to it.
