Chapter Sixty-Four: Reunion

He Zhenhua felt heartbroken seeing his son crying so hard. Knowing that this was not the time to be polite, he stood up and said, "I'll go wash the bottle and make some formula."

Du Yuhan followed He Zhenhua to the kitchen, took the cleaned baby bottle from him, estimated the amount needed, and made a bottle of milk for little He Haobo. After adding some cooled boiled water to make the temperature just right, Du Yuhan took the bottle and put the nipple into the mouth of her little nephew who was still crying with his mouth open.

Du Yuhan gently coaxed, "Baby, don't cry. Auntie will give you something delicious to drink."

Suddenly, He Haobo stopped crying and started drinking milk in big gulps.

Yu Huiru smiled happily as soon as she saw it, "My grandson can taste things now. He wouldn't drink the milk powder just now, but he drank this one happily."

He Zhenhua laughed and scolded, "This brat, he's already picky about food at such a young age, even when he drinks milk he's picky about the fat and lean parts."

He Chenglin breathed a sigh of relief as he watched his grandson kicking his little legs and gulping down his milk.

Having resolved the child's issue, Yu Huiru began inquiring about Du Yuhan's family background, "Little Du, who else is in your family? Aren't you afraid to go out alone at such a young age?"

Du Yuhan replied, "I have parents and three younger brothers. But I don't live with them now. I'm in another city taking care of a disabled veteran. They provide food, lodging, and a salary, so I came here at the beginning of the year."

Upon hearing this, Yu Huiru's heart tightened, and she quickly asked, "You're so young, why are your family making you go out to earn money?"

Du Yuhan sighed and said, "It would be better if I didn't come out. My parents aren't my biological parents. Although my adoptive parents treat me very well, the other people in the family don't like me."

My adoptive parents couldn't be the head of the household either; they couldn't go against my grandmother's wishes. My grandmother had already accepted money from others, so I had no choice but to work for them. Fortunately, that family treated me very well, and life was much better than at home.

Upon hearing this, Yu Huiru excitedly exchanged a glance with He Chenglin and asked, "Then do you know where your biological parents are?"

Du Yuhan shook her head and said, "All I know is that they were revolutionary soldiers who entrusted me to the Du family for upbringing, and that's all I know."

Yu Huiru shoved her grandson into her husband's arms and grabbed Du Yuhan's hand, saying, "Where is your hometown? Did your biological parents leave you any keepsakes? Maybe we can help you find your parents."

Du Yuhan then recounted the Du family's ancestral home and the places they later moved to, and then took out the jade pendant she always carried with her.

After hearing Du Yuhan's story and seeing the jade pendant in Du Yuhan's hand, Yu Huiru hugged Du Yuhan tightly and cried, "My daughter! I have finally found my daughter!"

Du Yuhan pretended to be taken aback by Yu Huiru's sudden reaction and said, "This, this, Auntie, what's wrong?"

He Chenglin wiped away his tears with excitement and relief and said, "Child, everything you said and the jade pendant in your hand show that you are our missing daughter."

He Chenglin then recounted how he had entrusted his youngest daughter to a fellow villager's family, how he couldn't find her, and how his family had searched for her until now. He also mentioned the jade pendant.

Yu Huiru and He Zhenhua added from the side. They both hoped that Du Yuhan would understand that it wasn't that the He family had abandoned her, but that they had been searching for her without success.

Du Yuhan pretended to be dumbfounded and said, "This, this is too much of a coincidence."

Yu Huiru hugged her youngest daughter, whom she had lost and found again, wiped away her tears, and said, "This is not a coincidence, but an arrangement by God, allowing you to save your nephew and return to the He family."

Yu Huiru carefully removed the large black-rimmed glasses from Du Yuhan's face and lifted her long bangs to see her youngest daughter's appearance.

Looking at his younger sister, He Zhenhua exclaimed, "Mom, my sister looks just like you!"

He Chenglin nodded and said, "You look a lot like your mother when she was young, but your nose and ears look like mine."

At this moment, his suspicions were finally confirmed, and a huge weight that had been pressing on He Chenglin's heart for many years was finally lifted, bringing him an indescribable sense of relief.

Yu Huiru hugged her youngest daughter tightly and said, "Yuhan, now that we've found you, we can't let you suffer anymore. Daughters of the He family should be pampered as they grow up. You haven't received our love since you were little, and Mom will make up for all the times we owed you."

Although your adoptive parents failed to protect you, we are all people who clearly distinguish between gratitude and resentment. We should thank them and also tell them that we will take you back to the He family.

He Chenglin quickly added, "Yes, you've grown up so much. We missed out on your growth. Returning to your parents' side will allow us to fulfill our responsibilities as parents."

He Zhenhua also said, "Yes, little sister, your parents talk about you almost every day. They regret that they sent you to live with other people back then, which led to them losing track of you and making you suffer so much all these years."

They can rest easy now that you're back. You're a daughter of the He family, and we'll all dote on you. You also have a second brother who often talks about you, envying others who have younger sisters, while his sister is lost.

Du Yuhan was touched to see how eagerly her parents and older brother wanted her to return to the He family, but she couldn't go back yet because she still had things to finish.

Du Yuhan said, "Dad, Mom, Big Brother."

As soon as Du Yuhan called out, Yu Huiru burst into tears, "I finally heard my youngest daughter call me Mom. This has been my wish for many years, and today it has finally come true."

When Du Yuhan saw Yu Huiru crying her eyes out, she quickly wiped away her mother's tears and comforted her, "Mom, let's not cry. I'm back now, it's not good to hurt your eyes if you cry."

Yu Huiru wiped away her tears and said, "I'm crying tears of joy. My long-awaited little daughter has finally returned, and I'm so happy."

Du Yuhan held her mother's hand and said, "Dad, Mom, I can't go back to the He family yet."

He Chenglin frowned and asked in surprise, "Why? Do you think the Du family can stop you from going home? They'd better not."

He Zhenhua also said, "That's right. Although our He family doesn't bully others, we're not easy to bully either. If the Du family dares to stop you from going home, I'll make them regret it."

Seeing her father and eldest brother staring at her, Du Yuhan laughed and said, "It's not entirely the Du family's fault. Let me explain. You should know about the eldest son of the Han family in Kyoto, who was severely wounded and paralyzed on the battlefield, right?"

He Chenglin said in surprise, "You mean Han Yixian, the eldest son of the Han family? The one who was seriously injured and crippled a while ago?"

Du Yuhan nodded and said, "Yes, he's the person I'm taking care of now."
