Chapter Thirty-Two: Knitting a Sweater

Han Yi first wrote several letters and put them in envelopes, planning to write a few more in the afternoon and then ask Liu Gang to go to the city tomorrow to mail them.

Han Yi first wanted to see how things went. If the signs that Du Yuhan mentioned really existed, he would have Du Yuhan spend all the votes she had, and he would also ask some of his comrades for more votes.

He used to give his comrades all sorts of tickets and passes, and now it's their turn to support him.

Besides, having something in hand is better than having tickets but nothing to buy. Who knows, his comrades might even need to beg him for something in the future.

Han Yixian thought it was very likely. If the supply was really as tight as Du Yuhan said, and people with tickets couldn't buy anything, then having the goods on hand would be a great help to those in need.

In fact, the supply has never been abundant; you can buy things you need regularly but end up with nothing to show for it.

He made up his mind. He was going to collect all the tickets that his close comrades didn't need. Money was no problem; he had plenty. He would have Du Yuhan buy things with them later.

Even after he searched around, he didn't have many tickets. How could an ordinary person have so many extra tickets?

He also had to tell several close comrades that if they were getting married, they should quickly prepare their things, and if they weren't getting married, they should buy some commonly used items to have on hand. He also told them to prepare as much food as possible if they could afford it.

Han Yixian only shared his suggestions with a few close friends; he wouldn't tell anyone else because he didn't want to cause trouble for himself and Du Yuhan.

Han Yi first asked Liu Gang to find suitable materials for the bow and arrow made by Du Yuhan, while he made the bow and arrow himself.

This was the first time Liu Gang had ever heard that the regimental commander also had this skill, and it looked no less impressive than Du Yuhan's.

He hadn't been with Han Yixian for long, so Liu Gang didn't know many things about Han Yixian.

Liu Gang felt that the regimental commander was omnipotent, and he admired the regimental commander the most.

He followed Han Yixian around as an assistant and learned the craft of making bows and arrows.

Han Yixian was happy to teach him.

Han Yixian's mood had calmed down considerably in the past few days; his irritability and depression had almost completely disappeared. He knew it was because of Du Yuhan's arrival.

She not only brought him comfort in his life, but also hope, the hope that allowed him to stand up again.

He thought that even if he couldn't stand up, living with someone as lively, cheerful, understanding, and a good cook as Du Yuhan would be a pleasant thing.

Han Yixian had not considered that Du Yuhan would grow up and get married, because Du Yuhan was still a child at this time and no one would treat her as a fifteen-year-old girl.

Du Yuhan also saw Han Yixian making bows and arrows, but she was too embarrassed to ask if they were for her. She was afraid she was just imagining things.

With a wider variety of seasonings available, Du Yuhan's cooking tasted even better.

Two days later, Yao Jingsong personally delivered vegetables to Han Yixian. There were quite a few Chinese cabbages, dozens of them; as well as radishes, potatoes, onions, scallions, and some dried goods, such as mushrooms and wood ear fungus; there was even a bundle of dried kelp and a bag of seaweed.

Luancheng is not far from the sea, so it's not unusual to find some seafood there.

Some grain was also delivered, mainly wheat flour, rice, cornmeal, and some other grains. Everything filled a whole tricycle.

Upon seeing Director Yao personally deliver the items, Liu Gang said, "Director Yao, why did you come in person? You could have just sent someone to tell me that I would have picked them up myself. It's too much trouble for you to come all this way."

Yao Jingsong waved his hand and said, "It's not far at all, it's no trouble for me to bring it personally. I came to see your commander."

Liu Gang ushered Yao Jingsong into the house, and Du Yuhan quickly served tea and water.

Then Liu Gang and Du Yuhan quickly helped unload the things into the side room, and would clean them up later.

Yao Jingsong also saw Du Yuhan, the caregiver Liu Gang had mentioned finding for Han Yixian.

She really is young. She's supposed to be fifteen, but she looks only twelve or thirteen. It's obvious that long-term hunger has affected her development.

Normally, a fifteen-year-old should be a grown woman, but this one still looks like a child, although she is quite pretty.

Seeing Du Yuhan's diligent and lively demeanor, Yao Jingsong felt relieved. As long as Han Yixian didn't dislike her and didn't drive her away, that was fine.

Yao Jingsong visited the newly built restroom and secretly regretted not having thought of the facilities inside.

However, he was also very happy, because now it would be much easier for Han Yixian to go to the toilet and take a shower. He could take care of everything without leaving the house, even on cloudy or rainy days or in the dead of winter.

Yao Jingsong was asked to stay for lunch. He finally witnessed Du Yuhan's culinary skills.

Yao Jingsong was completely relieved to see Han Yixian eat an extra bowl of rice while enjoying the delicious meal.

Seeing Han Yixian's clean and tidy clothes, and his improved spirits, it seems that the new girl can take good care of Han Yixian.

After visiting Han Yixian, Yao Jingsong left with peace of mind.

During this period of free time at home, Du Yuhan started knitting a sweater and finished it in a few days.

She knitted a sweater and a vest, both with simple and elegant patterns. She was afraid that if the patterns were too flashy, Han Yixian wouldn't like them.

Now is the perfect time to wear sweaters. When the weather gets warmer, you can just wear a sweater vest over your shirt.

Du Yuhan knew Han Yixian's body measurements by heart, so she didn't need to measure him at all. She could just use the measurements from her previous life, slightly looser.

Han Yixian's health has improved a lot recently thanks to the food she feeds him, and he is no longer so thin.

Han Yixian only realized that Du Yuhan had bought yarn to knit a sweater for him when he saw the blue and white patterned sweater that Du Yuhan had brought to him.

Du Yuhan, holding the sweater, said, "Brother Han, go inside and try it on. See if it fits. If not, take it apart and alter it."

Han Yixian accepted the sweater without refusing and went back to his bedroom. He took off his cotton-padded jacket, which was getting a bit hot, and put the sweater on.

The sweater fits perfectly, and it's the perfect color for the weather right now.

Han Yixian looked down at the sweater he was wearing, and a smile involuntarily crept onto his lips as he touched the simple yet elegant floral pattern knitted on the front. He then wheeled himself out of the bedroom.

Liu Gang looked at it with some envy and said, "Commander, this sweater is really nice. You look much more energetic wearing it."

Han Yixian said, "Yuhan, take some money and buy a few pounds of yarn for you and Gangzi, and you can each knit a coat. The weather is getting warmer, and you won't be able to wear your cotton-padded coats for long. We're not short of money."

At Han Yixian's repeated requests, Liu Gang took Du Yuhan to the department store to buy yarn, and Du Yuhan quickly knitted two sweaters. From then on, all three members of the family wore sweaters knitted by Du Yuhan.

This was the first time Liu Gang had ever worn a sweater, and he was thrilled. He was very careful wearing it, knowing he wouldn't wear it when going into the mountains for fear of damaging it.
