Yun Dazheng arrived home quickly and was about to blow out the light when he saw that the house was completely dark, so he put the light back on.
Yun Duo sat next to Yun Qishi in the main room, listening to Yun Qishi tell stories of the past. When she saw the lights outside, she smiled and said, "Grandpa is back." As she spoke, she called out "Grandpa" to the outside.
Yun Dazheng agreed and went into the house, putting the lantern he was holding on the table. He said, "Why don't you two, grandmother and granddaughter, light a lamp? Are you just sitting here in the dark like this?" As he spoke, he shook his head slightly.
Naturally, it was because Lady Yunqi was reluctant to part with the lamp oil.
However, Yun Duo certainly couldn't say such a thing. She just smiled at Yun Dazheng and said, "Grandma is telling me stories. You can just listen with your ears; you don't need to look."
"Oh, telling a story. What story are you telling?" Yun Dazheng asked with a smile upon hearing Yun Duo's words.
Yun Qishi felt a little embarrassed. She was telling Yun Duo about the feelings she and Yun Dazheng had for each other. When Yun Dazheng asked, she quickly changed the subject: "I didn't say anything, just some things from the past. Did you manage to borrow the gauze?"
"I've borrowed it." Yun Dazheng nodded.
"Then I'll go wash up and get the sugar out in a bit. The sooner we get it out, the sooner we can go to sleep," Yun Qi said, getting up to stand up.
"Sit down, you've had a long day. Aren't you tired, you old lady with bound feet?" Yun Dazheng said, half-jokingly and half-affectionately. With that, he picked up the lantern and went straight to the kitchen to wash the gauze.
"Grandpa, the jar is washed and is upside down in the basin to drain." Yun Duo said, then, thinking that it was inconvenient for Yun Dazheng to carry both the lamp and the jar, she said, "I'll go and light the way for you, Grandpa."
These are all minor matters; Yun Dazheng is naturally not going to refuse his granddaughter's thoughtfulness.
Since Yunduo was helping to carry the lantern, Yun Dazheng simply put the jar and the kitchen knife in the wooden basin and carried them over together. This way, the jar would fit perfectly inside the basin, preventing any sugar from spilling out. As for the kitchen knife, it was for cutting the honeycomb.
"Grandpa, no, don't cut it from here." Seeing Yun Da holding a knife, pretending to cut the honeycomb in half, Yun Duo quickly stopped him. Following Xiao Jiu's instructions, she drew a few lines on the honeycomb with her finger, saying as she drew, "Cut it like this, from here to here, cut it like this. The top part doesn't have honey, just cut it off."
Yun Da was somewhat skeptical, but he still cut it as Yun Duo instructed. After cutting it open, he found that the part Yun Duo had told him to cut off indeed had no honey. He couldn't help but feel puzzled, so he turned his head and looked at Yun Duo curiously, asking, "Duo'er, how do you know there's no honey on this?"
Yun Duo had already thought this through and wasn't afraid of Yun Dazheng's questions at all. She immediately said, "The beehive that Duo'er found before was just like this." Anyway, Yun Dazheng hadn't seen that beehive, so she could say whatever she wanted.
"So all beehives are pretty much the same," Yun Dazheng said casually.
Yun Qishi chimed in, "That's right. Just like when we build a house, no matter how we build it, the main room is always in the middle."
“Yes, yes, I think so too.” Yun Duo nodded vigorously, her face full of an expression that said, ‘I just happened to be lucky.’
"Our Duo'er is so smart," Yun Dazheng praised with a smile, suppressing the doubts that had just arisen.
He's increasingly convinced that his little granddaughter is incredibly clever, so clever that she seems almost too smart for family...
