Chapter 127 Farm Work

The weather was getting hotter and hotter; it was only a little past ten in the morning, but the sun was already blazing. Yun Da straightened his stiff back, rubbed it hard, and leaned against the hoe handle to catch his breath and ease his fatigue. Then he turned to Yun Qishi and Yun Duo, who were squatting in the field picking up grass roots, and said, "Old woman, the sun is getting strong. You should take Duo'er back. I'll pick up the remaining grass roots. I'll collect them as I dig."

Yun Youtian and the others finally cleared the land. The old man planned to plant some corn, so he first had to turn over the soil and then remove the weeds. Originally, the old lady wasn't supposed to come, but she insisted, so Yun Dazheng could only let her do some light work.

Gathering grass roots is arguably the easiest of all farm chores. After all, it only requires stretching out an arm and bending over. However, for Yun Qishi, an old woman with bound feet, it was still very hard work.

After squatting for half the morning, she felt like her legs weren't her own anymore. Her little feet were also in excruciating pain, and she really couldn't hold on any longer. Plus, she had left early that morning and hadn't even washed the clothes at home, so the old lady gave up, gave a soft reply, and struggled to stand up. Not only did she fail to stand, but she almost fell. Luckily, Yun Duo reacted quickly, dropping the grass she was holding and stepping forward to support her, preventing her from collapsing.

Yun Dazheng was so frightened that he dropped his hoe and quickly walked over to Yun Qishi. After helping her up, he said with a pained expression, "You old woman, you're so stubborn. You didn't even say anything when you couldn't hold on anymore. What would I do if you fell and got hurt?"

He looked down at the clouds again: "Duo'er, be good, and go back a little later, okay? You stay on the slope and watch the hoe for Grandpa for a bit. Grandpa will take Grandma back and then come back, okay?"

He was really worried about letting his wife go back alone, and Yunduo was too small to support his wife properly.

Yun Duo hadn't planned to go back in the first place. Although she felt very tired, she wasn't about to give up. There was no way she would run back to slack off and leave everything to her grandfather. So when Yun Dazheng spoke, Yun Duo nodded repeatedly and said, "Yes, Grandpa, I'm not tired. You help Grandma back first, and I'll pick up some more grass roots."

"Alright." Thinking that his granddaughter hadn't been spoiled growing up, and that she could manage this farm work, and that there really wasn't much other labor in the family, if she could help, he could plant the corn faster. Farming time waits for no one, and they were already behind other families...

Therefore, Yun Dazheng nodded and said to Yun Duo, "Duo'er, Grandpa knows you are a good child. Then please do your work a little harder and help Grandpa pick up some grass roots. Grandpa will help your grandma back and come right away. If you feel hot, go to the shade under the tree for a while, and Grandpa will bring you some water in a bit."

Yun Duo nodded quickly and said, "Yes, Grandpa, don't worry, I will."

Yun Dazheng then helped Yun Qishi back.

As soon as Yun Dazheng and Yun Qishi left, Yun Duo became excited and called out to Xiao Jiu, "Xiao Jiu, hurry up, while Grandpa is away, let's pick out all the grass roots in the field."

"Okay, Master, watch carefully~" Xiao Jiu replied in Yun Duo's mind, drawing out the sound. A moment later, several swarms of wasps buzzed over.
