Chapter 82 Persuasion

Yun Dazheng grabbed Yun Duo and said in a low voice, "Duo'er, don't run around, we should go out."

Yun Dazheng also vaguely heard the sound, but he had no intention of going over to check. At his age, and having experienced so much during the war, he had long lost his curiosity and instead became more wary than most people.

If he hadn't been vigilant, how could he have managed to escape from the war-torn region to this small village with his entire family intact?

Seeing that Yun Dazheng showed no curiosity and instead looked wary, Yun Duo was at a loss. She quickly pointed in the direction where Xiao Jiu was and said in an anxious tone, "No, Grandpa, there really is a sound."

Yun Dazheng lowered his voice even further and said, "What sound is that? You little kid, you must have misheard. Be good, listen to Grandpa, let's go to the market. When we get to town, Grandpa will buy you candy."

As he spoke, he dragged the cloud outside.

Yun Duo was truly bewildered. She hurriedly cried out in her heart, "Xiao Jiu, Xiao Jiu, think of something quickly! Grandpa won't let me come over to you; he's trying to pull me away."

Xiao Jiu's voice followed: "Master, don't worry, I'll think of something right away. Think of something, think of something... I've got it!"

Before Yunduo could ask Xiaojiu what idea she had come up with, she heard a very obvious buzzing sound in her ears. A moment later, a few bees flew past them.

Yunduo roughly understood what Xiao Jiu meant and quickly said, "Oh! Grandpa, it's a bee! Do you think there's a beehive nearby?" Then she coaxed, "Grandpa, good Grandpa, let's go take a look. What if we find a beehive with lots of honey like last time, we can sell it to buy chicks and goslings."

“We’ll have money if we sell the pheasants and mushrooms. If that’s not enough… your grandma gave the money to grandpa.” Yun Dazheng’s tone sounded a bit hesitant, as if he was somewhat tempted.

Sensing the hesitation in Yun Dazheng's words, Yun Duo immediately said, "Oh, Grandpa, who would complain about having too much money? Besides, our family doesn't have much money to begin with, so we should sell as much as we can."

Seeing that Yun Dazheng was still somewhat hesitant, Yun Duo continued, "Didn't you see how distressed Grandma looked when she gave you the money? Can you bear to see Grandma worrying about a dollar or two?"

“One or two yuan is not a small amount,” Yun Dazheng couldn’t help but say.

Seeing this, Yun Duo said exaggeratedly, "The beehive that Duo'er picked up last time sold for five yuan, five yuan!" As she spoke, she stretched out her hand and gestured towards Yun Dazheng.

Yun Dazheng was becoming increasingly tempted.

He knew his granddaughter was right. They knew their own situation. If what she said was true, finding a beehive should be enough to sell for some money, at least slightly improving their financial straits. Besides, so much time had passed, and apart from the buzzing sound, there was nothing else, so there shouldn't be any danger. The only danger was… those buzzing bees.

Thinking it over, Yun Dazheng steeled his heart, pulled Yun Duo to squat down against the tree, and said, "Duo'er, you squat here and don't move, okay? Grandpa will go check. If the bees come..." Yun Dazheng looked at the small basket containing the tied-up pheasant, picked up the pheasant, put it on the ground, and continued, "If any bees fly over, put the basket over your head and don't let go, okay?"
