Chapter 19 Qian Duoduo: Sister Guo Can Actually Hunt

Guo Ni stood between He Ying and Jin Jinxiu. Qian Duoduo stepped out of the line and stood next to Guo Ni, asking, "Sister Guo, you should get a lot of grain this year, right?"

Guo Ni shook her head and said, "It's alright. I plan to send some of my mother's food to my family. They haven't eaten the food here yet. I think that although Heilongjiang Province is cold, the food here is really delicious, much better than the food back home. Here, even if it's coarse grains, I can eat more than at home."

As Qian Duoduo listened to Guo Ni's words and looked at her hands, she thought to herself, "With hands like these, practicing Baguazhang, she eats a little more here than at home. How much does she eat at home? Can Qian Xiang's work points support his wife?"

He Ying smiled and patted her hand, which she hadn't put down, saying, "You're such a filial child. But these days, there are fewer and fewer filial children. By the way, Xiao Guo, where are you from?"

Guo Ni said with a smile, "My home is in Cangzhou, Jilin Province."

He Ying nodded and said, "I've heard of that place; it's known as the hometown of martial arts."

He Ying's words made Guo Ni's eyes light up. She hadn't expected to hear such a reputation in this small mountain village. Her impression of He Ying immediately improved: "Aunt Qian, you actually know about the hometown of martial arts. I'm so surprised. Of all the educated youth from my hometown, I'm the only one who came to our Beian Village. But our Beian Village is really nice. The brigade leader and the old men and women in the village have been very kind to me."

Like a sedan chair carried by many, Qian Duoduo watched Guo Ni skillfully navigating between her aunt and mother, and smiled mysteriously. The more Guo Ni behaved, the more she pleased her aunt He Ying, who found her future daughter-in-law increasingly appealing. Hehe, little Guo, you can't escape now. Qian Xiang might not be that cunning, but her aunt, who was as shrewd as a sieve, would definitely make you fall into her trap and become her daughter-in-law without any trouble.

While they were still queuing, they saw several strong laborers from the village following behind Qian Sheng, with Qian Xiang naturally among them. They saw Qian Sheng standing on the high platform and shouting, "Everyone, be quiet! What are you all making such a racket for?"

The queue immediately quieted down, with only a few people at the back still chatting.

Qian Sheng said, "Old Liu, are you going to line up or not? If you're not going to line up, then go back home. What are you doing causing trouble here? You're just being unreasonable every day. If you don't listen to me, I'll cut off your rations."

As soon as these words were spoken, the surrounding area immediately fell silent. After all, this concerned their own food supplies, and they couldn't joke about it.

Qian Sheng had a keen eye and noticed Jiang Caiqin's less-than-pleasant face. He said, "What's wrong with you educated youth? Hurry up and line up. All you do every day is cause trouble and affect the distribution of grain and meat in the village."

Jiang Caiqin was so embarrassed by the yelling that she could only stand at the back dejectedly.

Qian Sheng snorted, then looked down and saw his little daughter's starry eyes, and his heart immediately soared.

Qian Sheng said, "The scorekeeper and the brigade accountant are over there. Start from this line, first go to the scorekeeper to check your work points, then go to the brigade accountant to collect your money and grain, and finally go over there to collect your meat." He looked at the eager villagers and said, "Did you understand what I just said?"

Qian Sheng was very dissatisfied with the villagers' sparse answers: "What's wrong? You don't care about receiving money, grain, and meat? The way you're answering sounds like you haven't eaten."

Upon hearing this, everyone immediately shouted, "Yes!" However, their shouts were all different and incoherent, which made Qian Sheng even more dissatisfied. He yelled, "Didn't any of you eat? I'm asking you, did you understand what I said?"

"Yes!" The uniform answer satisfied Qian Sheng. He said, "Those who want to line up first, go to the team scorekeeper to verify your scores. Find your team leader. Don't mess around, or I'll make them line up at the back of the line."

Qian Sheng and militia captain Wang He, along with several village militiamen, stood at the front of the procession, maintaining order.

Qian Sheng was puzzled when he saw Xiao Guo, the educated youth, standing between Jin Jinxiu and He Ying. When did Xiao Guo become so close to his family? Especially the way his little girl was being so affectionate with her. Hmm, he felt a little jealous.

Guo Ni quickly received her money, grain, and meat. She looked at the grain and felt a headache coming on. The money and meat were alright, but she really couldn't manage to get the grain back.

Qian Duoduo noticed Guo Ni's gaze, then touched He Ying's hand, and gestured with his chin towards Liang and Qian Xiang. He Ying immediately said, "Little Guo, you've got so much grain, I don't think you can carry it all back by yourself. Why don't you leave it here for now? My family has plenty of grain too. I plan to have Qian Xiang use my flatbed cart to come and pick it up later. I'll have him deliver yours to you on the flatbed cart."

Qian Duoduo immediately said, "That's why I always say my aunt is smart. Look, she came up with such a good idea right away. I think it's a good idea."

Just as Guo Ni was about to shake her head and refuse, she heard Qian Duoduo say again, "Sending so much grain to the educated youth compound isn't good for Sister Guo. How about this, Sister Guo and I will wait here for Brother Qian Xiang, and then Brother Qian Xiang will deliver it. I'll say that I couldn't bear to see Sister Guo working so hard, so I asked Brother Qian Xiang to deliver it. This way, it'll be better for Sister Guo's reputation."

He Ying immediately said, "That's how it is. Your aunt loves you the most. See, you think the same way as your aunt."

Jin Jinxiu watched as He Ying and Qian Duoduo chatted back and forth, looking a little confused. It seemed like they both knew something that she didn't, but she became even more curious. She felt that the central figure in this matter was Xiao Guo, the educated youth, and no one was giving her an answer.
