Jiang Caiqin's work points this year were not many, and compared with Guo Ni's, they were nothing. She had originally planned to borrow some grain from Guo Ni, but Guo Ni actually wanted to send the grain home, which made her a little anxious. However, since the other female educated youths were all there, she was too embarrassed to bring it up in public and planned to find an opportunity to discuss it with Guo Ni.
Not long after, Qian Xiang arrived at the entrance of the educated youth compound pushing a flatbed cart. The gate of the compound was open, and he stood at the gate and called out, "Guo, the educated youth, Duoduo, I've come to deliver grain."
Upon hearing Qian Xiang's shout, Qian Duoduo immediately said, "Sister Xiao Guo, it's my brother. He brought you the grain."
As soon as Qian Duoduo spoke, all the educated youth in the educated youth compound looked at Guo Ni, and then turned to the door. Qian Duoduo called out, "Brother Qian Xiang, please deliver the grain to the door of the educated youth dormitory."
Qian Xiang carried one bag on his shoulder and another in his hand, placing them at the entrance of the female educated youth dormitory. He then strode out and placed another bag, along with a large half-bag of sweet potatoes, at the dormitory entrance. Jiang Caiqin's eyes reddened as she looked at the grain. Guo Ni let go of Qian Duoduo's hand, walked to the grain bags, and examined them. They were indeed hers. She easily picked up the two bags and put them into her cabinet, then put the third bag of grain in as well, finally placing the sweet potatoes on top of the grain bags.
Jiang Caiqin followed Guo Ni inside. Qian Duoduo noticed Jiang Caiqin's hesitant expression, quickly guessed what was going on, and stood at the door, saying, "Sister Guo, are you done?"
Jiang Caiqin's words were cut off by Qian Duoduo's shout. She saw Guo Ni quickly lock the cabinet door, nod to her, and then turn and walk out.
Guo Ni took Qian Duoduo's hand and walked towards Qian Xiang, who was standing at the entrance of the educated youth compound. Qian Duoduo looked at Qian Xiang with a smile, and Qian Xiang, perhaps having received some guidance, did not stutter or blush this time. He said, "Little Guo, I've brought you all the grain. I heard from my mother that you plan to take some of the grain to the commune to send home?" Seeing Guo Ni nod, he added, "I heard from my second uncle that there's a batch of fine grain in the village. You can exchange some of the coarse grain for some fine grain and send it home."
Guo Ni's eyes lit up, and she immediately asked, "Is that okay?"
Qian Xiang said, "Okay, I'll go back and talk to my second uncle, and then I'll come and tell you."
Upon hearing this, Guo Ni's eyes immediately lit up with a smile, and she nodded, saying, "Thank you, Comrade Qian."
Qian Xiang smiled and said, "You're welcome, you're welcome." Seeing Xiao Guo's smiling face warmed his heart; he wished he could see her more often!
Seeing that the two of them had suddenly fallen silent, Qian Duoduo knew that things had to end there, so she said, "Sister Xiao Guo, Brother Qian Xiang and I will go back first."
Guo Ni nodded. Qian Xiang wanted to say something more to Guo Ni, but he didn't seem to know what to say. At this moment, he was a little annoyed. Seeing Qian Duoduo climb onto the flatbed cart very readily, he could only say goodbye to Guo Ni and reluctantly push the flatbed cart away.
On the way back, Qian Duoduo said with a smile, "Brother, Sister Guo is such an amazing older sister. She's not only good to me, but I also like her. Although Sister Guo only graduated from junior high school, and her education level is similar to yours, she can hunt and is also a very good boxer. She's so awesome." After saying this, Qian Duoduo even gestured a few times. In her heart, she complained to herself, "It's so tiring to have to speak like a child."
Qian Xiang chatted and laughed with Qian Duoduo, who talked a lot, mostly catering to his interests by recounting their conversations with Guo Ni. Qian Xiang learned a great deal about Guo Ni from Qian Duoduo, but then suddenly asked, "Duoduo, do you think Guo, the educated youth, would like a farmer like me? What if she gets a spot to return to the city?"
Qian Duoduo fell silent. In the book, Guo Ni did indeed marry Qian Xiang and had once had a chance to return to the city, but she gave it up for Qian Xiang. Later, when the national college entrance examination was reinstated, Guo Ni, already a mother of two, also gave up taking the exam. The two of them made a living by farming in the Northeast. All of this happened when the female protagonist returned to the rural area, met Guo Ni, and stayed there. The two were worlds apart. Guo Ni, after years of working in the fields under the sun and wind, looked like an old woman, while the female protagonist, living in the city, dressed fashionably. Although they were close in age, they looked more than ten years apart.
Qian Xiang's expression changed at those words. He looked at the smug Qian Duoduo and said leisurely, "Duoduo, which side are you on?"
Qian Duoduo said, "Logically speaking, I should be on your side, since we both have the surname Qian. But, I really like Sister Guo, so I'm doing this for her own good, and for yours too. After all, with my aunt's personality, if you really go to Sister Guo, your status in the family might decline. If you have children in the future, I guess you'll only be a maid."
