Siblings Wen Yugui and Wen Yuzhu sat beside Qian Duoduo, gripping the tractor's railing tightly with one hand and the bicycle handlebars with the other, their expressions pained and their brows furrowed. Despite this, the gravel road was relatively good compared to others, at least passable by vehicles. Some villages didn't even have such roads, and the only way out was on foot.
After a trembling and arduous journey, they finally arrived at the entrance of the village committee compound in Qianshan Village. Qian Duoduo stood up and slowly moved towards the edge of the tractor. Her heart was pounding with excitement, and her legs were shaking. She carefully got off the tractor, and seeing that almost everyone around her was getting off in the same way, she felt a sense of comfort, as if she had found a kind of psychological balance.
Just then, Li Dafa emerged from behind the house, his belt fastened. He caught a glimpse of a stylishly dressed woman and thought to himself, "Whose daughter is this? She's so beautiful!" However, when the woman turned around, he exclaimed in surprise, "Village Chief, Village Chief, your Duoduo is back! She looks so lovely!"
When Qian Sheng heard Li Dafa's words, he was about to scold him, thinking that his daughter, Duoduo, was so busy and had no time to come back. But when he looked up, he saw Qian Duoduo smiling at him, and his heart immediately jumped: "Daughter, my dear daughter, why are you back? Hurry home and let your mother see you, hehe, she's been talking about you these past few days." After saying that, he ignored Li Dafa and pulled Qian Duoduo home.
As Qian Sheng passed by Wen Yugui and her brother, he stopped and looked at Wen Yugui, saying, "Fourth brother's wife, you should take Yuzhu home quickly and let your mother show off her cooking skills. It's good that Yuzhu and Duoduo are coming back today."
Wen Yugui nodded immediately with a bright smile on her face, while Wen Yuzhu greeted Qian Sheng with a smile, handed the things in his hand to Wen Yugui, and then rode his bicycle home with Wen Yugui.
Wen Yugui took Qian Duoduo's things with her, and Qian Sheng, carrying her own small bag, strolled slowly home with Qian Sheng. Qian Sheng walked ahead with a smile. The villagers had all heard that Qian Duoduo was back, and dressed like a city person, so many people came out to stroll in the streets. Naturally, they all saw Qian Duoduo chatting with Qian Sheng, and they were all stunned. Was this beautiful and fashionable girl really Qian Duoduo? The young women and wives in the village looked at Qian Duoduo with envy and jealousy, and began to discuss her clothes and her exquisite makeup.
Watching Qian Duoduo and Qian Sheng walk towards them, chatting and laughing, Wang Qiaofen felt a strange unease rise in her heart. Especially when she noticed Qian Duoduo's attire, her brow furrowed slightly. Qian Duoduo's clothes today were very fashionable, even somewhat trendy, a stark contrast to the other women in the village. Moreover, she was the only one in the village to have been admitted to university and left the mountains, which created a huge gap between her and the other women in the village.
When Qian Duoduo saw Wang Qiaofen standing at her door, she went up to greet her and said, "Aunt Li, why aren't you cooking yet? It's so late."
Wang Qiaofen smiled and replied, "Your Uncle Li hasn't come back yet. I want to wait for him to have dinner together."
Qian Duoduo nodded, indicating her understanding. Then, she continued chatting with the other villagers, inquiring about their recent lives and sharing anecdotes from her time in the city. The villagers were all very welcoming to Qian Duoduo, as if she had never left the village. Despite the passage of time, Qian Duoduo maintained her approachable nature, making everyone feel very comfortable. This harmonious atmosphere made Wang Qiaofen marvel; although Qian Duoduo had been away from the village for many years, she didn't seem alienated at all.
Qian Duoduo looked at the crowd surrounding her, a bright smile on her face, and greeted everyone warmly: "Aunties, ladies, sisters, and sisters-in-law, I haven't been home for several years, and my mother misses me so much! I have to hurry home to see her."
Qian Sheng, who was standing to the side, also said cheerfully, "Alright, alright, everyone, let's all go home now."
Qian Duoduo continued to smile as she looked at the crowd around her, saying nothing more. Seeing this, the villagers gradually began to disperse. After all, it was a family reunion, and they didn't want to disturb them any longer. However, some villagers remained, most of them young women who had married into Qianshan Village in recent years. Niu Cuihua noticed the woman, slowly walked over, and asked softly, "Liu Fen, what are you looking at?"
Liu Fen lowered her head slightly and answered softly, "Is she Qian Duoduo?" Her tone revealed a hint of curiosity and doubt.
Niu Cuihua said, "That's right. She was the first female college student in our village to be admitted to university. In Lao Qian's family, she was like a aunt. Her parents doted on her, and her brothers and sisters-in-law loved her dearly. Look at her clothes. There aren't any clothes as nice as hers in our county."
Liu Fen didn't say anything, and continued to watch Qian Duoduo's departing figure until she could no longer see him. Then she turned around, smiled at Niu Cuihua, and left.
