Chapter 15 Be a Lucky Koi

"Comrade, what are you doing following me?" He was wearing a black cotton hat, his clothes were patched, and he looked at him with a hostile expression.

Xu Xiangyang felt a little embarrassed; he'd been spotted. But that was normal; there weren't many people on the street, so it was easy to notice someone following him.

He smiled and said, "Brother, I saw you trading things with someone just now..."

Before he could finish speaking, the man snapped, "What do you mean by 'exchanging things'? Don't talk nonsense."

With that, he turned to leave.

Xu Xiangyang immediately ran over, "Brother, don't misunderstand, I just wanted to trade you something, look."

As he spoke, he pulled a paper package out of his cotton-padded coat, and inside was a piece of frozen pork belly.

This piece of meat looks to weigh over two pounds, with a lot of fat; it's definitely a good cut.

The man looked at him in surprise and hesitated before saying, "You're willing to exchange this meat for it?"

Actually, when men see this meat, they want to pay and give the ticket immediately. Recently, there has been a shortage of meat in the city, and it's not available on the black market either. Everyone is craving meat.

However, he was also worried that Xu Xiangyang might be some kind of official, and what if he was there to arrest someone? So he continued to observe cautiously.

Xu Xiangyang nodded and said in a low voice, "Brother, to be honest, I moved here from the neighboring mountain city, and I haven't found the black market yet."

The man was stunned for a moment before he realized that the man was pretending to sell meat, but was actually inquiring about the black market.

However, the black market is not exactly a secret place. Although it is now explicitly prohibited by the authorities, they are turning a blind eye to it.

That makes things easier. It's just a matter of making a connection, right? Besides, I can buy such a big piece of meat myself, so it's not a bad deal.

"Alright, my name is Wang Er. If you find anything good in the future, remember to look for me over there. I'll take you to the black market right now." He chuckled as he took the meat and paid Xu Xiangyang the price according to the black market rate.

Xu Xiangyang didn't care about that; exchanging two pounds of meat for access to the black market was still a worthwhile trade.

But who would complain about having too much money?

"Brother Wang, you're too kind. I'll definitely think of you if I get anything good in the future," he replied with a smile.

Such polite words are just polite words. With a black market, what channel for selling things is there to lack?

The two of them chatted and laughed as they walked to the city gate. Just before they left the city, there was a small alley.

Wang Er led him straight inside, and after walking less than a hundred meters, they heard the voices of many people talking.

Xu Xiangyang's eyes lit up. This place was really easy for him to find. If he had to find it on his own, he probably would have been searching until the New Year.

He never expected that the black market was right at the city gate.

"Brother, this is all I'll take you this far. I still have to go home." Wang Er patted his shoulder and then turned to leave.

There are still two pounds of fatty pork belly in this bag, hurry home and eat some meat!

Xu Xiangyang didn't stop him, thanked him, and watched him leave.

As he approached, he saw that the black market was just a large courtyard, like an abandoned factory.

Even though it was almost afternoon, there were still quite a lot of people. Generally, it's busier in the evening; people are busy during the day and only have time at night.

Moreover, it's easy to hide at night, making it the perfect time to buy and sell things. Even if you can't see clearly, people will carry flashlights to illuminate their goods.

Xu Xiangyang adjusted his hat and then went inside for a stroll.

Most of the vendors were selling whole grains and scraps of cloth; meat and eggs were practically sold out as soon as they were brought out.

He didn't buy anything; he just wandered around for a bit and then left.

I came here today to scout out the location; the buying and selling will have to wait until he's settled in the city.

After leaving the black market, Xu Xiangyang found a secluded spot to enter his spatial dimension.

The space was still bright, like a cloudy day, and the temperature was just right.

He went to the dormitory at the logistics port, found a single room that no one had lived in, and then took a shower.

The water inside was quite warm, for some reason. He had resisted when it first touched his body, but now he could ignore it.

I changed into the pajamas I brought with me and lay on the new bedding—it felt so comfortable.

This single room is not bad; besides the bathroom, there's just a bed underneath.

Although it was a bit simple, he didn't have high demands; he just wanted to get a good night's sleep.

This day had worn him out, and he felt that he might not be able to adapt to the work of moving grain.

But what can he do if he goes back without this job?

He doesn't know how to farm, so is he supposed to slack off at work? That would make him just like the original owner of this body, and he doesn't want to become like that.

So we still have to keep working, let's take it one step at a time, we can't go on like this.

On his first day at work, Xu Xiangyang was still wearing the original owner's clothes, but he had washed them clean.

There's a washing machine in the dorm, and it's also electric, so I just washed my clothes there.

With water and electricity, you can simply settle down there.

But he didn't want to do that. What was the point of hiding in that space? To live a muddled, aimless life?

What's the difference between that and a salted fish? He wants to be a carp, a koi.

Just as he was thinking about it, he arrived at the granary.

There were people unloading trucks outside, so Xu Xiangyang went over to ask them and then went to the office next to the warehouse.

Inside sat a middle-aged man in his forties, wearing glasses and somewhat balding.

"Who are you?" He was eating when he looked up and saw someone standing at the door.

Xu Xiangyang glanced at the white rice porridge and steamed buns made from mixed flour on the table and couldn't help but think, "Is the food for the warehouse gatekeeper this good?"

He then smiled and said, "Hello comrade, I'm here to report for duty. This is my letter of introduction, please take a look."

After saying that, he handed the letter of introduction that he had prepared beforehand to the person in front of him.

The man took the letter of introduction, glanced at it, nodded, and handed it back to him.

He stood up and said, "Okay, I received the notice yesterday. You can work with the people outside. I'll take you out to find someone to guide you."

The two people left the office one after the other and then arrived at the warehouse entrance.

"Xiao Zhang, come here for a moment." He waved to someone over there.

The man called Xiao Zhang was in his thirties. When he saw someone calling him, he quickly ran over.

"Director Liu, what's the matter?"

Director Liu nodded and said to him, "This comrade is new. You can mentor him and tell him what kind of work he needs to do."

Xiao Zhang immediately nodded, "Okay, Director Liu, you go ahead with your work, I'll take him over there."

Xu Xiangyang watched from the side, wondering what was he busy with? Was he busy eating?

I didn't expect him to be the warehouse manager; he's quite capable. No wonder he eats rice porridge and steamed buns for breakfast.

You should know that at this time, being able to eat these things meant you were either a cadre or had a lucrative job.

After watching Director Liu leave, Xiao Zhang turned to Xu Xiangyang and said, "Our job is relatively simple, just moving and unloading goods. You can work with them."

He pointed to the truck next to him, where several people were working.
