Chapter 14 Organizing the Space

The grain depot is moving grain!

This job sounds tough, and although Xu Xiangyang isn't afraid of it, the original owner of this body is still here.

If I send him to move grain, he'll probably be out of work in two and a half days.

But this is the only way out now; there are no other options.

Besides, it was Wang Zhongshan who shamelessly asked his comrades for permission; if he hadn't gone, his grandfather probably would have been left empty-handed.

"Goudan," Wang Xiumin said with difficulty as she got up from the kang (a heated brick bed), "Mother knows that moving grain is hard work. If you don't want to go, then we won't go."

She gritted her teeth. How could she, as Xu Xiangyang's mother, not know what kind of person he was?

They don't have much physical strength, otherwise they wouldn't refuse to work in the fields to earn work points.

That's why she wanted Xu Xiangyang to go to school so he could become a cadre and receive government rations, instead of suffering like this.

But if he's unwilling, she absolutely won't force him. At worst, she'll do more work with Xu Guangtian; she can't let him go hungry.

Xu Xiangyang didn't expect her to say that, but he knew she was genuinely worried about her son.

“No need. It’s not easy for Grandpa to ask people for this job. There’s no reason for him to give up without even giving it a try.” He had his own ideas, so he didn’t listen to Wang Xiumin.

Wang Xiumin was stunned when she didn't expect her son to agree to do manual labor.

"Goudan, don't push yourself too hard," Wang Xiumin said, still worried.

Xu Xiangyang smiled and said, "It's okay, we'll see when the time comes. If it really doesn't work out, I can't force it. If I can't do it, I'll just go home."

As he spoke, he folded the letter of introduction and put it into his pocket.

Neither of them tried to persuade him. In fact, they knew that Xu Xiangyang would definitely not be able to persevere, so they didn't try to dissuade him.

When he can't keep up and comes back, we can comfort our son.

Xu Xiangyang stayed at home for two days, mainly to tidy up the space, so he thought he would finish tidying up first before going to work in the city.

There are many things inside the space. Despite making excuses to go outside and into the space, I still haven't finished organizing them.

He pasted a large piece of paper on all the containers, explaining what was inside.

This will make it easier to find things in the future, which is very convenient.

Because he prefers to eat fresh food, the words for "fresh" are written in bright red.

Fresh produce, like fruits and vegetables, was marked with red ink. Everything else was just casually marked with black ink; there was no way to categorize them properly—we didn't have the energy.

There were plenty of chicken eggs, duck eggs, and goose eggs left over, and the meat selection was also complete.

There was everything imaginable, but it hadn't been packed away yet. He hadn't even opened or glanced at the remaining packaged items.

There were also many things on the boats that were about to leave from the shore, but he didn't have time to look at them yet.

You can find the manifest at the ship's office. All the cargo on the transport ships is clearly listed, so you can tell just by looking at the manifest.

That day, he took the letter of introduction and the one yuan that Wang Xiumin had given him, and left with his bundle on his back.

It's quite surprising that Wang Xiumin has a secret stash of money; he kept it to avoid worrying his family.

As soon as he stepped out of his house, people strolling on the street saw him carrying a bundle and asked him where he was going.

Xu Xiangyang didn't say he was going to work, but rather that he was just going to take a look.

"I heard that the Xu family separated Xu Laosan's family from the rest of the family."

"Tsk tsk tsk, I just happened to run into such a lazy family. If I were in charge, I would also divide it up."

"No matter what, this is just too uncivilized. He's still a son, after all."

"Why are you meddling in their business? I bet Xu Laosan's family will be begging for food sooner or later."

Xu Xiangyang had already walked far away and was unaware that others were gossiping about his family behind his back.

Even if he knew, he wouldn't take it seriously.

Life is for yourself, not for others to see.

After arriving at the grain depot, Xu Xiangyang found the gatekeeper, showed him his letter of introduction, and was then taken to the personnel office.

"Knock knock knock..." He raised his hand and knocked on the door.

A short while later, a voice came from inside the door saying, "Please come in."

He pushed open the door, and the scene inside came into view.

The room was only a little over ten square meters, with a large desk inside, where four people sat on the four sides.

Everyone was busy with their own things, heads down, except for one person who looked up at the door.

Xu Xiangyang showed no extra expression, calmly walked over, and took out his letter of introduction.

"Hello, I'm here to report for duty."

He explained his purpose and then stood aside to wait.

The man took the letter of introduction handed to him, glanced at it, and then nodded. "Leave the letter of introduction here. Comrade Xu can report to the grain depot tomorrow. I will inform the comrades there."

Is that all?

Xu Xiangyang didn't relax, after all, he didn't have a job yet and didn't know if he was capable of doing it.

He nodded, then turned and left.

As soon as he closed the door, he heard people talking inside.

"Hey? Wasn't that temporary worker at the grain depot supposed to be Old Lin's nephew? Why is someone else here?"

"I don't know, but one of them has to leave. I don't think this kid is in great shape, he probably won't last more than two days."

"Stop talking. If Old Lin finds out that his nephew's job was snatched away, he'll probably fly into a rage."

Xu Xiangyang was stunned for a moment, then quietly left.

He didn't know if the people inside were deliberately letting him hear, but this job was definitely getting a bit complicated.

It seems they weren't planning on letting me stay long anyway, and there's someone else competing with me for it.

If even temporary jobs are in high demand, then finding other work will probably be even more difficult for him.

He left the grain depot absentmindedly, then turned to think about doing some other business.

He has enough supplies in his space; a living person can't just die from holding their pee, can they?

We don't know what will happen in tomorrow's report, but he needs to think about it and find some other work.

After wandering around outside for a while, Xu Xiangyang saw two people exchanging things mysteriously not far from the supply and marketing building.

He observed carefully and realized that the two people seemed to be exchanging money for tickets.

However, it was too far away to see clearly. He could only see someone putting tickets into his pocket. He was already familiar with that thing, so he could see it clearly.

After the person who exchanged the items left, Xu Xiangyang glanced at the remaining person, seemingly unintentionally.

Seeing that he was about to leave, I quickly followed him, intending to go and see what was going on.

Xu Xiangyang is currently lacking such connections; perhaps by following him, he might be able to find the black market.

Actually, he had wanted to ask someone for a long time, but he was afraid of running into officials and getting arrested.

So I never asked and just wandered around aimlessly.

But this couldn't go on forever. He couldn't find the black market, and following others was the only option he could find.

At that moment, the man in front suddenly stopped and turned around.
