Chapter 66: Yan Wenhua is an enemy spy?

At seven o'clock in the morning, there was a knock on Xu Jianguo's door. When he opened the door, he saw it was Tong Fei.

"Did you sleep late last night?" Tong Fei asked with a smile.

"Yeah, a little insomnia."

"How's it going? Did you find it?"

“Found it!”

"It's okay, take your time...what did you say?" Tong Fei asked Xu Jianguo in surprise.

In the past few days, every time he asked this question, the answer he got was "not found", so he wanted to comfort Xu Jianguo out of habit.

But unexpectedly, Xu Jianguo told him today that he had found it.

"Master Tong, I said 'I found it'," Xu Jianguo said with a smile.

"Great! Jianguo, you're awesome!"

"It's nothing great, it's just good luck. Master Tong, please wait for me for a moment, I'll go wash up, and then we'll go downstairs to eat."

"Okay, go ahead!"

After Xu Jianguo finished washing up, the two of them went to the canteen of the guesthouse to have breakfast, and then went back to the room to move the large box of books into the car.

"Master Tong, I want to go to the supply and marketing cooperative to buy something for my sister."

"Okay, let's go together. I'll buy some for my wife and daughter too."

After the two drove to the supply and marketing cooperative, they went their separate ways to buy what they needed.

Xu Jianguo bought two pounds of peach cakes, a bottle of vanishing cream and clam oil, and a red hairpin for Funiu and Wen Sitian.

I looked through the tickets in the space, found some cigarette tickets and tea tickets, and bought four boxes of peonies and two pounds of tea.

"Jianguo, have you finished buying it?"

"Um!"

"Are we going back now?"

"No, I have to go to two places: Xinhua Bookstore first, and then the scrap collection station!"

Tong Fei drove the car to the entrance of Xinhua Bookstore but did not get out. When Xu Jianguo walked into the bookstore, Yan Wenhua was still reading in his previous position. He looked up when he heard the voice and found that it was Xu Jianguo. He smiled and said, "Why are you here?"

Xu Jianguo also smiled and said, "Uncle Yan, I'm here to thank you today, and by the way, I want to tell you that we'll be going back soon."

"Are you going back now? Did you find what you were looking for?"

"Yes, I found it. I found it at Uncle Liang's place."

"Haha, I didn't expect you to actually find it. Don't leave at noon. I'll treat you to a meal as a farewell party."

"No need, Uncle Yan. Our county is in a hurry, and I have to hurry back. I'll come again next time and treat you! This is what I bought for you. Thank you for your help to our Red Star Machinery Factory!" Xu Jianguo put two boxes of peonies and a pound of tea on the counter.

"What are you doing? I'm not helping you for these things!" Yan Wenhua said with a stern face.

"Uncle, listen to me, you are not helping myself, but our Red Star Machinery Factory, so I should thank you both publicly and privately. If you don't accept it, I won't look for you next time I come to the office!" Xu Jianguo said sincerely.

Seeing that he couldn't refuse, Yan Wenhua said, "Okay, I'll accept it, but only this once!"

"Hey, it's settled!"

At this moment, Xu Jianguo inadvertently saw a copy of the Parrot Newspaper that Yan Wenhua had placed upside down on the counter. His pupils shrank slightly, and he felt a little wary. He asked casually, "Uncle Yan, are you still reading the Army Times?"

P.S. Army Times was founded by Mel Ryder in 1940 in Magnesium and is one of the earliest military magazines in the world. Later, Mel Ryder founded Navy Times and Air Force Times, further expanding his influence in the military magazine field.

Yan Wenhua looked at Xu Jianguo with surprise and asked, "Jianguo, do you also know parrot language?"

"Yeah, what's wrong?" Xu Jianguo saw that Yan Wenhua looked very natural and didn't look like an enemy spy at all, so he relaxed his vigilance a little.

"Excellent! Jianguo, I need to reintroduce myself to you. Besides being the head of this Xinhua Bookstore, I'm also a staff member of the National Compilation and Translation Bureau, responsible for liaison work with the translators at our Ling'an District Administrative Office."

Yan Wenhua's introduction left Xu Jianguo bewildered. Where were the enemy spies he had promised to meet? Where were the awards he had promised to receive for his meritorious service?

"Uh...Uncle Yan, you really gave me a surprise!"

Yan Wenhua took out two work ID cards from his jacket pocket. One had a blue cover with the seal of Xinhua Bookstore on it; the other had a red cover with a steel stamp on the inside, indicating the unit was the National Compilation and Translation Bureau of Longxia State.

Seeing these two work ID cards, the last bit of vigilance in Xu Jianguo's heart disappeared. Although he didn't know whether the two documents were authentic, through his contact with Yan Wenhua in the past few days, he didn't believe from the bottom of his heart that he was an enemy spy.

"Jianguo, the reason I'm so excited is because I have an unwelcome request, and I hope you can agree to it."

"It's not that serious. You tell me, I will definitely help if I can." Xu Jianguo said with a smile.

"That's it..."

It turns out that Yan Wenhua's main job is to receive goose language translation tasks assigned to him by superior units. He will distribute the tasks to the non-staff translators of the Compilation and Translation Bureau within the jurisdiction. After the translators hand over the translated documents to him, he will mail the texts to the superior units for review. If the review is passed, the translators can get the corresponding translation fees.

However, on July 16, 1960, the Sulian government suddenly unilaterally tore up 600 contracts and notified the Longxia government that they would withdraw all Sulian experts in Longxia, a total of 1,390 people, between July 28 and September 1.
