Chapter 77 Get away

Chapter 77 Get away

The disturbing phone call made Xue Han feel conflicted, and a cold fear followed him like a shadow.

But he will not back down, and neither will Xu Yao.

They have a life to earn and a future to build, and these pesky little bugs can't stop them.

So they came to the bustling market, where colorful colors and noisy sounds assaulted their senses.

The aroma of fried dough and spiced meat mixed with the pungent smell of dried fish and herbs, creating a unique and confusing smell that thickly filled the air.

They unroll rolls of brightly colored fabric, each a promise of warmth and style, a testament to their tenacity.

The market was bustling with activity.

The vendors hawked their wares, their voices drowning out the surrounding noise.

Children moved among the crowd, their laughter echoing like wind chimes.

The ground was compacted earth worn smooth by countless feet, vibrating with the energy of the crowd.

Xu Yao was filled with optimism

But their moment of peace was broken.

Sun Zhiqiang, his mother, and Lin Wan appeared, circling like vultures around a wounded animal, their faces twisted into expressions of malicious delight.

Sun Zhiqiang's mother's voice was full of sarcasm as she chuckled, "Yo, yo, yo, look who crawled out from under the rock. You thought you could hide forever, didn't you? I see you've come back to embarrass yourself again."

Lin Wan never missed an opportunity to kick someone when he was down, so she interrupted in a sickly sweet tone, "I bet those fabrics are still poisonous. I wouldn't touch them even with a long pole."

Xu Yao's blood was boiling.

These people were like cockroaches, haunting her life.

But she wouldn't let them succeed.

She took a deep breath and raised her voice to make sure it was heard over the din of the market. "Your last little scheme backfired. You're trying to use that same old trick again, aren't you? Listen up everyone! These people are trying to discredit my business with lies!"

A burly stall owner came forward, his face like weathered leather but with a kind heart.

His loud voice echoed in the square: "We all know Xu Yao. She is a kind and honest girl. You people, please leave here quickly and don't cause any more trouble." A voice of approval rang out from the crowd. This wave of support warmed Xu Yao's heart and sent a chill down Sun Zhiqiang's spine.

He shifted his feet awkwardly, like a mouse in a trap.

Public dissatisfaction did not deter Sun Zhiqiang. He was so shameless that he was almost delusional. He even dared to walk towards Xu Yao with a hypocritical, pleading smile on his face.

"Yaoyao," he began, his voice full of false sincerity, "can we... talk in private? I just want you to know... that I still care about you. Maybe... we can work things out." He stretched out his hand, as if to touch her, but she dodged it as if it were a poisonous snake.

Xu Yao let out a short, sharp laugh, like broken glass cutting through the air.

"Sun Zhiqiang, are you dreaming? Don't be so self-righteous. I am very happy now. You are a thing of the past. Get away."

There was such venom in her voice that even experienced market vendors could not help but flinch.

Sun Zhiqiang's face turned red, embarrassment and anger mixed together, distorting his expression.

He stuttered, trying to form coherent words, but the words got stuck in his throat.

He looked at his mother, then at Lin Wan, his eyes silently praying for help.

But they were speechless; the pressure of public opinion weighed on them like a heavy burden.

Just as Sun Zhiqiang was about to speak again, there was a sudden commotion at the edge of the market... a figure walked out of the crowd... just as Sun Zhiqiang opened his mouth to speak again - puff!

Lin Wan disappeared like a magician performing a trick of disappearing.

One second she was standing there, eyes green with envy, and the next she was gone, completely swallowed up by the bustling market crowd.

It's like finding a specific grain of sand on the beach.

There was an indescribable tension in the air.

Sun Zhiqiang and his mother forgot their humiliation for a moment and looked at each other in confusion.

Where did she go?

Even the gossipy market vendors, veterans of human drama, fell silent, their eyes searching the crowd.

A strange premonition and a tingling uneasiness enveloped Xu Yao and Xue Han.

Something felt…off.

It's like the calm before the storm, the false peace before the real chaos begins.

Xu Yao held Xue Han's arm tightly, and her fingers gripped tighter and tighter.

He looked at her, and there was a silent understanding between them.

It’s not over yet.

It’s far from over.

"She must be planning something," Xu Yao muttered to herself, her voice almost inaudible but with an unsettling certainty.

Xue Han nodded, his jaw set, and he scanned the market, his eyes sharp and alert, like an eagle searching for prey.

"Stay close to me," he ordered, his voice low and strong.

The bustling market that was so vibrant just a moment ago now seemed shrouded in a sense of foreboding, as a lurking darkness threatened to devour the light.

A cold breeze blew through the stall, rustling fabric and bringing a whisper... a whisper of trouble to come.

Then, a scream from afar pierced the sky...
