Chapter 78 A Woman Lying on the Ground

Chapter 78 A Woman Lying on the Ground

The screams tore through the air, like a sharp needle, piercing the false calm of the market.

Xu Yao's heart skipped a beat and she felt her blood was about to freeze.

Xue Han pulled her behind him, and his tall body was like a wall, protecting her firmly behind him.

"What's wrong? What happened?" The crowd began to make a commotion, bubbling like boiling water.

Before anyone could answer, a man stumbled out of the crowd, his face pale, pointing at a stall in the corner of the market, shouting incoherently: "Someone's dead! Someone's dead!"

The crowd instantly exploded and fled in all directions like a flock of frightened birds.

Xu Yao and Xue Han looked at each other and saw the same shock and uneasiness in each other's eyes.

They pushed through the crowd and ran towards the scene of the incident.

When they arrived, the scene was already surrounded by people.

A woman was lying on the ground, motionless, her face was blue and purple, and she seemed to have stopped breathing.

People around were talking and speculating about the cause of death.

"This... isn't this Lin Wan?" Someone recognized the deceased and exclaimed.

Xu Yao and Xue Han were both stunned.

Lin Wan?

How could it be her?

How could a person who was alive just now suddenly die?

A strange atmosphere permeated the air, making people feel creepy.

Xu Yao felt a chill on her back, and a chill ran from the soles of her feet to the top of her head.

Just then, a figure squeezed out from the crowd. It was the director of the subdistrict office.

His face was solemn, his eyes stayed on Xu Yao and Xue Han for a moment, then he said in a deep voice: "Follow me."

The director of the subdistrict office took them to his office.

The room was filled with a faint smell of tobacco, which made people feel a little depressed.

"We have already looked into the matter of the anonymous letter," the subdistrict office director said straight to the point in a serious tone.

Xu Yao and Xue Han both held their breath, waiting for his next words.

"Lin Wan instructed someone else to write the anonymous letter." The voice of the street office director was low and powerful, and every word was like a bomb, exploding in the ears of Xu Yao and Xue Han.

"What?" Xu Yao couldn't believe her ears. Lin Wan? How could it be her?

"We found the person who wrote the letter. He has admitted it and identified Lin Wan." The director of the subdistrict office took out a document and handed it to Xu Yao and Xue Han. "This is his testimony."

Xu Yao and Xue Han read the testimony carefully, their faces becoming increasingly ugly.

It turned out that Lin Wan had always been obsessed with Xue Han. She was jealous of Xu Yao, so she tried every means to destroy their relationship and Xu Yao's business.

"This woman is so vicious!" Xu Yao said gritting her teeth, her heart filled with anger.

"Why did she do this?" Xue Han's tone was also full of anger. He could never have imagined that Lin Wan would do such a thing.

"Because she is unwilling to give up." The director of the subdistrict office sighed, "She always thinks that you should be with her."

"How ridiculous!" Xu Yao sneered, "Who does she think she is? Why does she think Xue Han should be with her?"

"Now that Lin Wan is dead, this matter..." Xue Han was interrupted by the director of the street office before he could finish his words.

"Lin Wan's death is likely related to the conspiracy behind her." The director of the subdistrict office's tone became more serious, "We suspect that there is an even bigger conspiracy behind her."

Xu Yao and Xue Han were both stunned. A bigger conspiracy? What is going on?

"We are still investigating the specific circumstances," said the director of the subdistrict office. "But one thing is certain: Lin Wan's death was definitely not an accident."

The director of the subdistrict office arranged for Xu Yao and Xue Han to invite Lin Wan to the subdistrict office.

As soon as Lin Wan entered the door, she saw Xu Yao and Xue Han. A trace of panic flashed across her face, but she quickly regained her composure.

"What do you want to talk to me about?" Lin Wan asked calmly.

"Lin Wan, why did you write an anonymous letter to frame Xu Yao?" Xue Han asked straight to the point, his tone filled with anger.

"I don't know what you are talking about." Lin Wan denied it flatly, "I have never written any anonymous letters."

"You still want to quibble?" Xu Yao sneered, "The director of the street office has found the person who wrote the letter. He has admitted it and pointed out you."

Lin Wan's face turned pale. She didn't expect that the truth would be exposed so quickly.

"Lin Wan, you've gone too far. You'll do anything to achieve your goal." Xue Han said angrily.

"Do you think you can destroy us like this? You are too naive." Xu Yao also said.

Lin Wan was speechless, and her expression became increasingly ugly.

Just then, she suddenly took out a document from her bag...

A trace of ferocity flashed across Lin Wan's face, as if she had grabbed a life-saving straw. She held the document high up, as if waving a flag of victory.

"Want me to shut up? Sure!" she screamed, her voice trembling slightly with excitement. "Xue Han, do you think you are a clean person? Do you dare to say you have no secrets?" Xu Yao's heart sank suddenly, and an ominous premonition came to her mind.

Xue Han's face turned pale in an instant. He stared at the documents in Lin Wan's hand, his eyes as sharp as a knife.

Lin Wan proudly shook the documents in her hand, like a vicious queen showing off her trophies.

"Look at this, and you dare to say you haven't done it?" Her tone was full of malice, like a poisonous snake spitting out its tongue, "If everyone knew about your 'glorious deeds', I wonder how you can still pretend to be noble!" She paused deliberately, looking at Xue Han's increasingly ugly face, her heart filled with the pleasure of revenge.

"What do you think? Are you scared?" Lin Wan pressed on step by step, her tone sarcastic, "If you want me to shut up, then you break up with Xu Yao, and I will pretend nothing happened!" She emphasized the word "break up", as if she wanted to nail it into Xu Yao and Xue Han's hearts.

The atmosphere in the room froze instantly, and the air seemed to become sticky, making it hard to breathe.

Xu Yao felt Xue Han's hand tightening unconsciously, and her palm was cold.

Lin Wan looked at the two nervous people and a sinister smile appeared on her face.

"What, you don't want to?" She looked at Xu Yao provocatively, her eyes full of malice, "Then I will..." Before she could finish her words, she was interrupted by Xue Han.

"What do you want to do?" His voice was low, as if squeezed out from between his teeth, with suppressed anger.
