The two scrambled and crawled up the mountainside and hid in a stone cave.
"Phew... my legs are really giving out." Ye Genbao sat down against the stone wall. "I've really seen it for myself this time. This mountain trek is a life-or-death struggle."
Du Jianshan wiped his sweat and said breathlessly, "Then you'd better learn your lesson from now on. Don't just focus on picking up eggs and not even notice the pigs are right next to you."
"Sigh, who would have thought that sow was so cunning, squatting in the grass without making a sound."
"If it didn't have experience, how could it have gotten so fat?"
After resting for about ten minutes, the two suddenly heard a hoarse "howling" roar coming from the woods.
"Here it comes." Du Jianshan gripped his machete tightly. "This boar has smelled the blood."
"Then let's not go out, shall we?" Ye Genbao said anxiously. "Let's just hide!"
"You can hide for a while, but can you hide all night? What if it rains? Will your legs be able to hold up?"
"Then what should we do?"
After a moment of calm, Du Jianshan's eyes suddenly lit up: "I remember there's a rocky ravine down the slope ahead. We can lure it there—it's slippery and wet, it can't outrun me."
"You really want to lure it?"
“Weren’t we here to hunt wild boars?” Du Jianshan raised an eyebrow. “Today, one of the wild boars, the female, is injured, and the male is enraged. If we can take them both down, we’ll have all our money and work points for this year.”
"Then you go, I... I'll just drag you down."
"You stay here and don't move. Come out when you hear my whistle. Remember, there's a long fork I've hidden over there at the top of the slope. Just poke the boar in the side and it'll fall over."
"I'm afraid I'll make a mistake!"
"It's better to be crooked than to be bitten!" Du Jianshan said, and without waiting for Ye Genbao to say anything more, he turned over and crawled out of the hole.
In the woods, the mist slowly rose, and the stench of blood grew stronger.
The boar, which was half a size larger than the sow, was already running towards them from a distance, drawn by the scent. Its tusks gleamed coldly.
Du Jianshan stood by the cliff, holding a torch tied with thorns in his hand. When it got close, he suddenly swung it, sending sparks flying.
"Awooo—!"
The boar, afraid of fire, took two steps back, but became even angrier and charged forward in the next moment.
"Come on!" Du Jianshan turned and sprinted towards the top of the slope, the thumping hoofbeats behind him like a drumbeat.
As they approached the rocky ravine, Du Jianshan suddenly rolled to the side, causing the boar to slip and fall into a puddle with a splash, kicking wildly.
"Now!" Du Jianshan shouted, "Genbao! Go—!"
Upon hearing the whistle, Ye Genbao gritted his teeth, jumped out, hoisted the long fork, rushed to the slope, and thrust his trembling hand toward the pig's kidney!
"Sizzle—!"
The long fork pierced the pig's skin, and the boar let out a miserable cry, then rolled over and pounced on him.
"Help!" Ye Genbao cried out, his face turning pale with fright.
Du Jianshan was prepared. He rushed out from behind the tree and slashed at the boar's hind leg with his knife!
"Snap!"
The sound of bones cracking rang out, and the boar immediately collapsed.
"Quickly, stab it again!" Du Jianshan roared.
"Stab your sister!" Ye Genbao cried, but he was desperate and stabbed her hard with his eyes closed!
"Sizzle!"
The fork pierced the boar's shoulder blade, and the boar shuddered before collapsing to the ground, unable to rise again.
The surroundings were completely silent, with only the stream flowing gently.
"It's done...it really is done?" Ye Genbao slumped to the ground, his legs giving way.
Du Jianshan wiped the blood from his forehead and grinned: "Let's go, cut off the flesh and skin, and we'll carry it back tomorrow morning. We can exchange it for seventy or eighty catties of meat coupons!"
"I'm no longer worried about how hard it is to earn meat ransoms." Ye Genbao lay on the ground, panting. "We're risking our lives to earn a living..."
"If we don't risk our lives, how will we survive?"
The two looked at each other and suddenly burst into laughter.
