Chapter 9: Outwitting and Outmaneuvering Your Stepfather! (2/2)

Du Jianshan also stored the vertical well waterwheel in the yard in his spatial storage.

Finally, he stuffed the food coupons into his pocket and walked out.

Just before leaving, he suddenly turned back and tore off the cotton curtain hanging on the door frame.

In the dead of winter, may your whole family of three freeze to death!

When he passed by Liu Hongmei's house, he kicked the door open and went in.

Liu Chunhua was happily counting the property deeds when she jumped in fright: "Brother, didn't we agree to meet tomorrow..."

“I’ve changed my mind.” Du Jianshan snatched the property certificate away: “Li Fuqiang’s marriage to Li Fuqiang is still the same. Give me the property certificate now.”

Liu Hongmei became anxious: "That won't do! We had an agreement..."

"You promised to get the property certificate for me, but you didn't say you'd give it to me!" Du Jianshan shook the tape recorder. "How about we go to the Revolutionary Committee now and talk about how many years someone should be sentenced for false accusation?"

Liu Chunhua wilted instantly.

After returning to his room and locking the door, Du Jianshan laid out his father's photo, poured a glass of wine, and spilled it on the floor: "Dad, look, this is just the beginning."

He lay down on the kang (a heated brick bed), beneath which lay the new mattress that had been brought back to him.

Du Jianshan crossed his legs, listened to the howling north wind outside the window, and closed his eyes contentedly.

Li Guodong is probably lying in the hospital crying right now, isn't he?

Serves you right!

The next day, just as dawn was breaking, Du Jianshan woke up.

He stretched, took out the steamed buns he had swiped last night from his storage space, and ate them with great relish, along with some pickled vegetables.

"Hey, the old dog's hidden stuff is something else!"

After finishing his meal and wiping his mouth, Du Jianshan took out a small clay pot and chopped up the hen he had taken the night before to stew.

"Time to add ingredients!"

He pulled out a large bag of croton powder from his storage space and poured it all into the pot.

"Old dog, I'll give you a good, satisfying poop today!"

The chicken soup was bubbling away, its aroma filling the air.

Du Jianshan hummed a little tune as he poured the soup into a thermos, even skimming a layer of oil off it, making it look incredibly tempting.

"Perfect!"

He carried the thermos out, but turned back before leaving and wiped the stove clean.

"We can't leave any evidence."

In the hospital ward, Li Guodong lay on the bed groaning.

"Ugh...this little brat...he's driving me crazy..."

Liu Xiuqin sat on the edge of the bed, wiping away tears: "Old Li, what are we going to do? Is Fuqiang really going to marry into that widow's family?"

"Marry into the family my ass!" Li Guodong slammed his fist on the bed. "I've been thinking about this all night, and it must have been that bastard Du Jianshan who pulled this trick!"

He gritted his teeth and lowered his voice: "That little bastard is definitely going to run away today! You hurry home and keep an eye on him! Don't let him get away!"

Liu Xiuqin panicked: "Yes, yes, I'll go back right away!"

She was about to get up when she remembered something: "Old Li, our savings book..."

Li Guodong patted under the mattress: "Don't worry, I've hidden it close to my body! That brat won't be able to find it!"

Liu Xiuqin was relieved and hurriedly walked out, saying, "I'm going back now! I can't let that little beast get away!"

Du Jianshan was humming a little tune as he walked towards the hospital when he happened to see Liu Xiuqin hurrying home.

"Oh, what a coincidence?"

He quickly hid behind a telephone pole and only came out after Liu Xiuqin had gone far away.

"Is that old hag waiting for me at home? Hey, too late!"

Du Jianshan sauntered to the door of the ward, composed himself, and put on a guilty look.

"Dad...I've come to see you..."

Li Guodong was lying in bed sulking when he heard this sound, and he almost jumped out of bed.

"You little brat! You dare come here again!"

Du Jianshan walked in with his head down, looking utterly remorseful: "Dad, I was wrong..."

"You son of a bitch!" Li Guodong grabbed a pillow and threw it at Fuqiang. "You've ruined Fuqiang! You beast, how could my family have such a scourge like you!"

Du Jianshan endured the pain, his eyes reddening instantly: "Dad, I was so angry last night... Fuqiang is my brother, how could I watch him marry into the family..."

Li Guodong was taken aback, clearly not expecting Du Jianshan to react this way, and asked blankly, "What do you mean?"

Du Jianshan handed over the thermos: "I specially made chicken soup... let's discuss it while we drink it..."

As soon as the lid was lifted, the aroma wafted straight into my nose.

Li Guodong swallowed hard, looking at Du Jianshan suspiciously: "Have you changed your ways, kid?"

"Dad, I've thought it through." Du Jianshan wiped away non-existent tears. "I'm the older brother. If my younger brother makes a mistake, I should be punished too... I'm willing to marry into the family in place of Fuqiang..."

Li Guodong's eyes lit up, but he suppressed his joy: "Really?"

"Absolutely true!" Du Jianshan patted his chest. "I was drunk and talking nonsense yesterday... Please don't take it to heart..."

Li Guodong was skeptical, but the chicken soup was just too tempting.

"At least you have some conscience..."

He took the bowl and gulped it down in one go.

Du Jianshan diligently ladled out another bowl: "Dad, drink more, it'll help you recover..."

After finishing two bowls, Li Guodong's complexion improved considerably.

"Jianshan, that's the right way to think. When things get to Fuqiang..."

Before he could finish speaking, his expression suddenly changed.

"Gurgle!"

The next second, his stomach growled like thunder.

What's going on?

Did they put something in this soup?
