Chapter 1 Time Travel (2/2)

You're the most hypocritical one. You always stand by and watch her hit me, regardless of whether it's my fault or not. In the end, I'm always the one who gets punished and beaten. What, is it okay for her to hit me without even knowing what happened, but I'm not allowed to dodge?

Liu Guijuan from next door couldn't help but speak up: "Lin Jianhua, you two are really something! Jin'er was away from you when she was so young, living in the countryside all her life. How much hardship and suffering she must have endured! Now that she's finally back home, I thought she could enjoy the warmth and love of a family, but what did I get in return? She gets up early and works late every day to cook and do laundry for you. She does all the housework by herself! And even so, you still hit and scold her at the drop of a hat. Are your hearts made of stone?"

As soon as Liu Guijuan finished speaking, Li Minzhi immediately chimed in, "That's right! I've long disliked Yu Cui's behavior! What kind of mother treats her own daughter like this? Jin'er is such a well-behaved and sensible child, working hard to take care of the whole family, yet she doesn't receive the respect and love she deserves. It's truly heartbreaking!" As she spoke, she glared fiercely at Yu Cui.

At this moment, people around gathered around, whispering and pointing at Lin Jianhua and his wife, their eyes filled with disdain and resentment. Some whispered, "This family is too much! They don't cherish such a good daughter; it's simply outrageous!" Others shook their heads and sighed, "Alas, poor Jin'er, being born into such a family is truly the worst luck imaginable..." A cacophony of accusations rose and fell, making Lin Jianhua and his wife feel as if they had thorns in their backs, wishing they could disappear into the ground.

"Aunties, thank you so much for standing up for me! You've all seen it with your own eyes, haven't you? They don't treat me like their own daughter at all. From a young age, I was raised by my grandmother with great hardship. I've finally returned to this so-called home, and it's been a whole year since then, but I haven't had a single decent meal. I've done all the heavy and tedious chores around the house—washing clothes, cooking, chopping wood, carrying water, cleaning the yard… these chores have practically taken up my entire life. Now, I guess I'll just consider it payment for their living expenses for this year. And soon, I'll be going to the countryside to work in place of my sister. Oh well, consider it a way of repaying them for the kindness of giving me life. From now on, they are no longer my parents, and I have no sister or brother."

Lin Jin finished speaking in one breath, feeling incredibly satisfied.

"You want to sever ties with us?" Mr. Lin asked incredulously, his eyes wide, his voice trembling slightly with anger.

Standing to the side, Lin's mother looked utterly astonished.

"Yes, we're severing ties. From now on, you no longer have me as your daughter. This is the dissolution certificate; I've already signed it. You'd better sign yours now!"

The paper was covered in writing, clearly something Lin Jin had prepared meticulously beforehand. She stared intently at her parents, feeling no reluctance whatsoever. For her, leaving this home, leaving this family, was the beginning of her life.

Just then, Lin Fei returned from outside. As soon as he entered, he asked in surprise, "What's going on? Why are there so many people in the house?"

Upon hearing Lin Fei's question, Lin's mother hurriedly stepped forward, grabbed Lin Fei's arm, and said angrily, "Fei'er, you're finally back! That brat Lin Jin actually wants to sever ties with our family!"

Upon hearing this, Lin Fei nonchalantly curled his lip and casually replied, "Oh, she was just superfluous to begin with, so let's break it off. It won't cause any loss to our family anyway."

Seeing everyone's gaze turn towards them, Lin Jianhua's face instantly darkened. He glared angrily and shouted at Lin Fei, "Shut up! She's your sister, what's with all this talk about whether she's superfluous or not!"

Lin Fei seemed to want to say something more, but before he could finish speaking, his mother grabbed him and gave him a wink.

At this moment, Lin Wan, who had been standing silently to the side, suddenly spoke up: "Little sister, since things have developed to this point, I don't want to say anything more. However, this matter cannot be entirely blamed on Mom and Dad. I apologize to you here and hope you will stop blaming them. I will do anything you want, just please don't quarrel with Mom and Dad anymore."

"Then you should go to the countryside yourself!" Lin Jin said.

However, Lin Jin knew very well that the seemingly gentle, kind, and pitiful older sister in front of her was actually a complete hypocrite. Sure enough, Lin Jin then put on a troubled expression and said softly, "Oh dear, it's not that I don't want to help you, it's just that your name is already on the list of people going to the countryside this time, and it can't be changed."

Lin Jin smiled slightly and calmly replied, "It's alright, sister. In that case, you can re-register, so we can go to the countryside together and look out for each other."

"Jin'er, do you have to do this? Your sister has been in poor health since she was a child. How can she go to such a place to suffer?" Lin's mother said irritably.

"So you think I can go but she can't? Fine, stop talking and just sign it already, or I don't know what she might do later," Lin Jin said impatiently.

Lin's father was trembling with anger. He glared at the person in front of him and shouted, "Fine! You said it yourself, it wasn't your mother and me who wanted to kick you out! So many people here saw it!" Before he finished speaking, he snatched the pen and signed his name on the paper without hesitation.

Seeing this, Lin's mother was displeased, but she still slowly walked to the table and signed her name. Lin Fei, on the other hand, was unusually decisive, signing his name in a flourish without saying a word.

At this moment, only Lin Wan stood there, her face showing a hesitant expression. Lin Jin's eyes were as cold as ice, giving Lin Wan no chance to speak at all.

Left with no other choice, Lin Wan gritted her teeth and reluctantly signed her name on the paper that would determine her fate.

Then, Lin Jin quickly picked up the papers on the table, carefully folded them, and put them in his pocket. Without looking back, he turned and went into the house, quickly packing his belongings. A short while later, he came out of the house carrying large and small bags. Just before leaving, he stopped, glanced back at the people inside, and then bowed deeply to the aunties who had spoken up for him, saying with tears of gratitude, "Thank you so much for speaking up for me today, aunties. I will remember this kindness forever." Then he turned and walked out of Xinhe Lane.
