Chapter Two: First Encounter (2/2)

As Lin Jin thought about it, her eyelids grew heavier and heavier until she finally fell into a deep sleep. At some point, she heard chaotic footsteps at the door, followed by gunshots. Startled, Lin Jin quickly got up and looked out through the crack in the door. She saw a group of soldiers in camouflage uniforms, holding machine guns, pinning down two fierce-looking middle-aged men, one of whom was injured.

The dimly lit corridor was bustling with people, many of whom craned their necks curiously to peek out from their room doors. At that moment, a tall, well-dressed soldier in military uniform called out loudly, “Gentlemen, please don’t panic! We are on an important mission and may have inadvertently disturbed your rest. We sincerely apologize. Please return to your rooms as soon as possible, and unless there are special circumstances, please do not go out tonight.” After saying this, he turned to face a strikingly handsome man beside him.

The man known as "Captain Gong" had striking features, with sharp eyebrows and a handsome face, exuding a cold and authoritative aura. He was currently frowning slightly, his gaze sharply fixed on the scene before him. Upon hearing the soldier's report, Captain Gong nodded slightly, indicating he understood. The soldier continued, "Captain Gong, after a preliminary search, we've only found two people in that room so far; another person escaped in the chaos. What do you suggest we do next?"

"Let's call it a day and take these two people to the police station. We have to go back to the unit tomorrow," said the captain.

The group had barely left when everyone returned to their rooms. Lin Jin dragged her somewhat heavy steps to the bedside, wanting nothing more than to collapse onto the soft mattress and continue her interrupted dream. However, once she lay down, the scene of the farce kept replaying in her mind, and no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't fall asleep again.

"Sigh, if I can't sleep, I might as well not sleep at all!" Lin Jin sighed helplessly, muttering to herself. She sat up in bed, and after a moment's thought, decided to enter that mysterious space and thoroughly examine those precious medical books. After all, for someone as passionate about medicine as her, these books were priceless treasures.

A faint mist still lingered in the air, though it was slightly thinner than before, but otherwise there seemed to be no other noticeable changes. The two books still sat on the table, lying there quietly, as if no one had ever touched them.

"Oh dear! This is really strange. I remember clearly that I didn't close that medical book when I left last time!" Lin Jin frowned, thinking to herself, "Could there be other people in this space?" Thinking of this, she couldn't help but become more vigilant.

Immediately afterward, Lin Jin tentatively called out a few times, "Is anyone there? Is anyone there..." However, only deathly silence answered her. The entire space seemed to be shrouded in a mysterious force, causing her voice to quickly dissipate into the silence.

After waiting for a while and receiving no response, Lin Jin shook her head helplessly and muttered to herself, "Oh well, this space is only so big anyway. If someone is really hiding in here, they'll show themselves sooner or later." She flipped the medical book back to where she had been looking before and continued reading. The more she read, the more surprised she became. It actually contained the long-lost Soul-Returning Needle. The so-called Soul-Returning Needle could revive a person as long as they had a breath left. However, this needling technique had to be combined with a method called the Banquet Returning Skill. What was that? Lin Jin wondered. There were several other needling techniques later on, all of which required this Banquet Returning Skill.

Lin Jin didn't come out of the space until she heard people talking outside. "Forget it, I'll fill my stomach first. I still need to go shopping."

Lin Jin brushed her teeth and washed her face before going out. She walked to the state-run restaurant, bought a few steamed buns, and ate them as she walked, thinking about what else she should buy.

She only had 500 yuan in hand, which was definitely enough for her needs. She needed to buy some warmer clothes; it was only the beginning of February, and it must be very cold in Heilongjiang Province. She had a blanket and other daily necessities, but she also needed to buy some food. Yes, food! But where would she put too much? She couldn't carry it all with her. "Sigh, my spatial storage! Let's try that!" Lin Jin thought, putting the steamed buns into her spatial storage. The buns disappeared! "It really can store things! That's great!" Lin Jin was so happy she almost shouted. She quickly put the money into her spatial storage as well.
