"How much is this piece of cloth?" Ran Jinnian took a fancy to a piece of cotton cloth, which was just right for making clothes for An'an.
The sales clerk looked up at her and noticed that Ran Jinnian was dressed fashionably: "I need a cloth ration coupon, three cents a foot."
"Then I want six feet."
Ran Jinnian silently did some calculations in her mind.
The sales clerk shook his head: "This is a purchase limit; each person can only buy three feet."
"Okay, then I'll take three feet." Ran Jinnian said helplessly. The economy is tight right now, and many things have to be rationed.
She wanted to buy some other fabrics, but the sales clerk wouldn't show them to her: "You're already subject to a purchase limit, you can't buy any more."
Xiao Haili said, "Can I buy it?"
"Sure," the salesperson said.
"Jin Nian, what other fabric do you need?" Xiao Haili asked.
Ran Jinnian pointed to another piece of cloth: "That one."
The salesperson didn't move.
"Take a look at that piece of cloth," Xiao Haili had no choice but to say.
The salesperson took it down.
Ran Jinnian touched it and said, "This piece of cloth is not bad."
"I want three feet."
Xiao Haili immediately understood.
The salesperson had no choice but to cut three feet.
"Have you finished buying?" Bai Qian called out from another counter.
"I've bought it."
Ran Jinnian put the cloth into her backpack and said to Xiao Haili, "I'll give you the money in a bit."
Doing this in front of the salesperson is a bit opportunistic.
"This is what I bought for An'an."
Xiao Haili has been well taken care of by Ran Jinnian since she came to the military region.
She is living a very good life now, and she is very grateful to Ran Jinnian.
"No, you have to keep it for yourself. You'll need to get married someday."
Ran Jinnian knew that Xiao Haili was very frugal, but she was very generous to her.
"What are you talking about? Come over and take a look at these two outfits." Bai Qian urged.
Ran Jinnian stepped forward to take a look; Bai Qian had chosen a trendy style.
She had no objection: "It looks good."
"But I feel like it doesn't look good with pants." Bai Qian thought the clothes were nice, but they didn't quite look right with the pants.
Ran Jinnian said, "Then wear a skirt."
"skirt?"
Bai Qian's eyes lit up.
"It's one of those knitted cardigan-style skirts." Ran Jinnian gestured, indicating that it was perfect for this weather.
"That means you can't buy yarn."
Bai Qian understood immediately.
"If you really want to buy yarn and knit it yourself, it might be a bit of a hassle."
Ran Jinnian said it casually, but she didn't expect Bai Qian to take it to heart.
"It's worth the trouble to make it look good." Bai Qian excitedly dragged Ran Jinnian to buy yarn.
The colors of the yarn are now simple: red, blue, black, white, and gray.
"What color should we choose?" Bai Qian asked Ran Jinnian.
Ran Jinnian pointed to black: "Black, this color goes with any clothes."
"Okay, I'll take the black one. How many do you want?"
This stumped Ran Jinnian. She had never knitted such a dress before; she had only seen it on the streets of Guangzhou in her previous life.
That kind of skirt was very popular at that time.
"How long do you want it knitted?" the sales clerk asked.
"This is roughly the distance."
Bai Qian gestured.
"It's so long!" the saleswoman exclaimed in surprise, but she was experienced. "Then you'll have to buy two laps."
The yarn these days has a lot of weight around it.
