Just as dawn was breaking, Lu Jingui was rudely woken up by Director Dong.
She was still sleepy and felt sore all over. Memories of last night flooded back, making her feel nauseous.
"What are you standing there for? Get up and make breakfast!" Director Dong urged impatiently, his tone devoid of any of the gentleness he had shown before.
There's no need to coax a woman you've got, especially since she's asking for something from you. Besides, last night's experience wasn't great; she was as stiff as a dead fish.
Lu Jingui suppressed his anger and got out of bed.
She's now living under someone else's roof and has no choice but to be subservient to Director Dong.
She secretly vowed that one day she would make Director Dong, Chu Hongyu, and Ning Bingyu pay the price for their actions!
After a quick wash, Lu Jingui walked into the kitchen with a dark expression.
Director Dong was already seated at the dining table, impatiently flipping through the newspaper.
"Why is there only plain porridge and pickled vegetables? Is this all you're serving me?" Director Dong frowned in dissatisfaction.
"That's all we have at home," Lu Jingui said casually. "Should I go buy some more?"
Director Dong waved his hand impatiently, pulled a handful of grain coupons and a few crumpled banknotes from his pocket, and threw them on the table: "Hurry up! Don't dawdle!"
Lu Jingui picked up the money and grain coupons, and walked out the door without saying a word.
Once outside, she took a deep breath, trying to calm her anger.
As she walked down the street, watching the passersby, she suddenly felt like a joke.
Lu Jingui was once a prominent figure at Fudan University, a woman of exceptional talent with countless supporters and admirers.
But now, he has been ruined by someone and has been reduced to selling his body to gain freedom. It's utterly ridiculous!
She has nowhere to go now, so she can only stay with Director Dong temporarily and spend his money first.
But she wouldn't sit idly by and wait for her doom. She would use Director Dong's connections and resources to start over, and then let Chu Hongyu taste what it's like to lose everything!
After buying breakfast, Lu Jingui had lunch with Director Dong and then saw him off to work.
Lu Jingui watched his retreating figure, a hint of resentment flashing in his eyes.
She returned to her room, opened the wardrobe, and found only a few outdated clothes inside, which were simply not presentable.
Lu Jingui began searching with disdain.
She searched the entire room and finally found the grain coupons and money that Director Dong had hidden in the drawer.
Lu Jingui counted out a few ten-yuan bills from his wallet, put them in his pocket, and stuffed the rest back into the drawer along with the grain coupons.
After all, I have to make up for what happened last night by getting some compensation for my emotional distress.
Unlike Chu Hongyu, who was naive and easily deceived, she didn't just help others count the money after being cheated, ultimately ending up with a tarnished reputation.
Thinking of Director Dong, Lu Jingui frowned in disgust, the humiliation of last night welling up in his heart again.
She thought bitterly that one day she would make Director Dong kneel before her and repent!
"Hmph, Chu Hongyu, just you wait and see. I, Lu Jingui, am not so easily defeated!"
She stood in front of the mirror and said coldly to her reflection.
She wanted to dress herself up beautifully; she wanted to buy the most fashionable polyester shirt and the most popular flared pants.
She wanted everyone to see that even after leaving school, Lu Jingui was still an undeniable presence.
She walked out of the newspaper office dormitory with her head held high, carrying the red faux leather handbag that Director Dong had bought for her yesterday.
Just as she stepped out the door, a figure suddenly bumped into her. Caught off guard, Lu Jingui stumbled, her high heels buckled, and she almost fell to the ground.
"Can't you watch where you're going?!" Lu Jingui was furious, clutching his shoulder where he had been bumped.
"You...you are Lu Jingui?" A hoarse voice rang in my ears.
Lu Jingui looked up impatiently, about to start cursing, but froze.
Standing before her was a middle-aged woman dressed in gray cloth, thin and withered, her head wrapped in a faded headscarf that covered most of her face, leaving only a pair of cloudy eyes staring straight at her.
"Who are you? Do you know me?" Lu Jingui was puzzled. Could it be one of his book fans?
The woman didn't answer; she just stared intently at Lu Jingui with a very strange look in her eyes.
Lu Jingui felt uneasy under her gaze and couldn't help but take a step back: "Who are you... what do you want?"
The woman suddenly moved, lunging at Lu Jingui with a speed and strength completely disproportionate to her frail figure.
"Ah!" Lu Jingui screamed in fright. Before he could react, he felt a sharp pain in his abdomen.
A rusty fruit knife was plunged deep into her stomach.
Warm liquid gushed out instantly, staining Lu Jingui's clothes red, and also staining the woman's withered hands red.
"You...you..." Lu Jingui clutched his stomach, staring incredulously at the woman who had suddenly gone mad. "Are you insane?"
The woman laughed: "Crazy? Hahaha, I've been crazy for a long time!"
She pulled out the knife, and blood gushed out. Lu Jingui collapsed to the ground, powerless.
"Who...who are you...?"
