Chapter 614 A Hasty Death

Lu Jingui clutched her stomach, crimson blood gushing out between her fingers, the intense pain causing her vision to blur.

The woman slowly straightened up and ripped off the faded headscarf from her head.

"Lu Jingui, you don't even recognize me? It's only been a few years, and you've already forgotten everything?"

In the dim light, the face gradually became clear. It was a thin and haggard face with sunken eyes and a sallow complexion, yet one could still vaguely see some of its former glory.

"Xiao...Xiao Yi?!" Lu Jingui stared wide-eyed in disbelief, as if he had seen a ghost.

"What, are you surprised I'm still alive?" Xiao Yi smiled bitterly, her smile filled with bitterness and hatred. "I survived for this day!"

Lu Jingui felt a chill run from her feet to the top of her head. Xiao Yi—this name was one she had deliberately tried to erase from her memory.

Xiao Yi, the woman she once regarded as a thorn in her side, the woman she personally pulled down and expelled from Fudan University.

The woman she thought she would never see again was now standing in front of her, still holding the blood-dripping knife in her hand.

"What? Surprised? Do I look particularly old? Actually, I'm only twenty-seven." Xiao Yi laughed, a shrill and piercing laugh, like the cry of a night owl.

The terrified screams of those around her could not drown out her chilling laughter.

Lu Jingui was terrified; his body trembled violently with fear.

She wanted to escape, but she had no strength at all. She could only watch helplessly as Xiao Yi walked closer to her step by step, each step feeling like it was stepping on her heart, making it hard for her to breathe.

“You…you weren’t already…” Lu Jingui’s lips trembled, unable to utter a complete sentence.

"I've already left Shanghai? I might even have died in that remote little village, right?!" Xiao Yi suddenly squatted down, grabbed Lu Jingui by the neck, and the hatred in her eyes almost devoured Lu Jingui.

"Cough cough..." Lu Jingui was choked and couldn't breathe. His face turned red, and he weakly scratched at Xiao Yi's arm with both hands.

"Isn't that surprising? Isn't that amazing? Let me tell you, not only am I not dead, I'm back alive! I have only one purpose in living, and that is to kill you with my own hands and avenge myself!"

Xiao Yi's voice seemed to come from hell, carrying a chilling aura.

Lu Jingui looked at Xiao Yi in horror. Her once clear and gentle eyes had turned cold and vicious, staring at her like a venomous snake, sending chills down her spine.

"How...how did you know..."

"You want to ask me how I know about all the good things you've done, right?" Xiao Yi sneered, released his grip, stood up, and looked down at Lu Jingui lying on the ground.

Her eyes were filled with disdain and mockery. "Lu Jingui, do you really think what you did was flawless? Do you really think I'll let it go after you've hurt me so badly?"

Lu Jingui looked at Xiao Yi in horror, as if he were seeing this woman for the first time.

Back then, Xiao Yi was a girl from the north, a prominent figure in the economics department, exceptionally talented, and sincere and generous to others.

As the president of the department's student union, although she came from a worker-peasant-soldier university, she has real talent and knowledge, and her future is bright.

Although I was admitted through the entrance exam, I was just someone from a small town, and I wasn't particularly outstanding in Fudan University, a place teeming with talented people.

Xiao Yi accidentally saw one of her articles, admired her "talent," and offered her a helping hand, encouraging and teaching her to change the writing style of those big-character posters that simply shouted slogans.

She also taught her that her writing should focus on "emotions" or "feelings" to evoke empathy, recommended her for publication, and even shared her resources and connections with her.

At first, Lu Jingui was quite grateful to Xiao Yi, but later, seeing Xiao Yi's high spirits and his works frequently published in newspapers and magazines, he became very interested in him.

I couldn't help but feel jealous and started imitating Xiao Yi's work, trying to surpass her.

Xiao Yi discovered that she was imitating and plagiarizing her writing style, but instead of exposing her, she thought she had talent and tutored her even more diligently.

However, she found that she could not surpass Xiao Yi. Their articles were similar, and if Xiao Yi was involved, newspapers and magazines would not publish her articles.

Moreover, Xiao Yi's ability to command a large following and be liked by everyone is clearly the same treatment she enjoyed during her major exercise!

The more she read, the more upset she became. She felt that Xiao Yi's promotion and help were just for showing off and to highlight her "mediocrity," even though her writing was no worse than Xiao Yi's!

She enjoyed Xiao Yi's help, but she couldn't help but secretly plot how to bring Xiao Yi down and replace him.

And she did indeed get that opportunity...

The memories were both distant and near... The screams of passersby and Xiao Yi's face kept flashing in her ears, filling her with fear, pain, and anger.

“Let me explain…you…” Lu Jingui looked at her, trying to save herself.

"Lu Jingui, you'll die a horrible death!!!"

Lu Jingui felt her consciousness slowly slipping away. She tried to scream, but no sound came out. She could only watch helplessly as the woman—no, the madwoman—stabbed the knife into her body again and again.

Bright red blood stained her clothes, the ground, and Xiao Yi's face, twisted with hatred.

"Go to hell! Go to hell! Go to hell..."

With each stab, Xiao Yi roared, as if to unleash all the resentment that had been building up in his heart for years.

More and more people gathered around, but no one dared to step forward and stop them.

They were all stunned by the bloody scene, just staring blankly as a young life slowly slipped away before their eyes.

It wasn't until the knife in Xiao Yi's hand fell to the ground with a crisp sound that everyone snapped out of their daze.

Two young men rushed forward and together subdued Xiao Yi, pinning her to the ground.

"Murder! Call the police!"

"Ambulance! Call an ambulance right now!"

Eventually, someone in the crowd realized what was happening and started calling the police and an ambulance.

But it was all too late.

Lu Jingui lay in a pool of blood, already lifeless.

Her face, which had been slightly swollen and filled with resentment, was now twisted and deformed, filled with fear and resentment.

She probably never imagined, even until her death, that she would end up like this.

Xiao Yi was pinned to the ground by two men, unable to move.

But she wasn't afraid at all, nor did she struggle. She just watched all of this coldly, a strange smile on her lips.

Her gaze pierced through the panicked crowd and landed on a person standing on the outermost edge.

There stood a short, middle-aged man wearing an old Lenin suit, with a stern face and sharp, hawk-like eyes.

When their eyes met, a hint of relief and liberation flashed in Xiao Yi's cloudy eyes.

She gave the man a desperate yet serene smile.

Then, he slowly closed his eyes and surrendered.

Upon seeing this, and confirming that the doctor had pronounced Lu Jingui dead on the spot, the man turned and left.
