"Hey Hongyu, don't you think that with you staring at the entrance so intently, you're going to see a hole through this little restaurant?" Ning Yuan finally couldn't help but put down her chopsticks and looked at Chu Hongyu across from her with a half-smile.
Chu Hongyu looked away, rolled her eyes at her, and gently poked Ning Yuan's forehead. "You're such a clever little devil!"
"Am I wrong? Look, Tony and Miss Cha have been gone for half a day. Could there really be some treasure in the public restroom that makes them linger here?" Ning Yuan said, her big, bright eyes full of teasing.
Chu Hongyu shook her head helplessly. This girl was so witty: "Stop joking. It really is Cha Meiling who went to see your older brother."
“Oh~” Ning Yuan drawled, giving Chu Hongyu a meaningful look. “It seems this ex-lovers have quite a bit of messy business, especially Miss Cha. I guess she’s really going to be unable to sit still this time.”
"You can't say that. They used to be a perfect couple, well-matched in terms of social standing and looks. It's quite sad that things have turned out like this."
Chu Hongyu rested her chin on her hand, gazing thoughtfully at the dimly lit street outside the window.
"I reckon she probably still wants to win back my cheap older brother, but some things, once done, can't be undone," Ning Yuan said, picking up the teacup on the table and taking a small sip.
She paused, then scoffed, "My brother here is no saint. Don't let his gentle demeanor fool you; he's ruthless and cunning, a complete black-hearted businessman. I wonder what he's up to by going to all this trouble with his ex-fiancée."
Chu Hongyu looked at Ning Yuan with a half-smile: "You're pretty much the same. I think I've figured it out. You're deliberately using me today to spite your ex-sister-in-law, aren't you?"
"No, I didn't. I just wanted to invite you to dinner." Ning Yuan blinked innocently.
Chu Hongyu raised an eyebrow and reached out to pinch Ning Yuan's round face without any politeness: "Is that so? You're putting on an act in front of your older sister?"
Ning Yuan grinned and quickly said, "No, no~~ I said those things on purpose to provoke her, hoping she would back down!"
Chu Hongyu then let go of Ning Yuan's hand and gently rubbed her face.
"But seriously, Sister Hongyu, let me give you some advice. My brother is a good businessman, but he's definitely not a good match. Don't get involved." Ning Yuan put away her joking expression and looked at Chu Hongyu seriously.
"Why are you suddenly telling me this?" Chu Hongyu's heart skipped a beat.
She instinctively gripped the teacup tighter. Did Ning Yuan know about what happened that night?
That's impossible, it was clearly just her and Ning Bingyu that night...
Ning Bingyu got so drunk that he blacked out the next day and couldn't remember anything, which allowed her to continue interacting with him as if nothing had happened.
"My brother has had one girlfriend after another, all of them beautiful female celebrities. Even when he had his fiancée Cha Meiling, he was never without women around him. If you work for him, be careful not to get involved."
Ning Yuan had a "I'm doing this for your own good" expression on her face.
Upon hearing this, Chu Hongyu secretly breathed a sigh of relief. Thank goodness, Ning Yuan didn't know what happened that night; she was just worried about her.
"Don't worry," Chu Hongyu said, her tone tinged with disdain, "I wouldn't even look at a man whose arms are so beautiful that a thousand men could sleep with him!"
Seeing Chu Hongyu's disgusted expression, Ning Yuan couldn't help but laugh. "That's more like it!"
Ning Yuan smiled and raised her soda: "Come on, let's toast to our happy future with soda instead of alcohol!"
"To a happy life!" Chu Hongyu also raised her glass and clinked it with Ning Yuan's.
The two looked at each other and smiled.
As the two were talking, Ning Bingyu, Tony, and Cha Meiling walked back one after the other.
Despite having just had a fight outside, all three of them appeared calm and composed once inside, as if the tense atmosphere they had just witnessed was merely an illusion.
To be fair, there were some flaws. Ning Yuan could see that Cha Meiling's carefully painted eyes still had a suspicious red tinge at the corners.
She had clearly been secretly wiping away tears.
She simply covered up the traces of crying with thick foundation, leaving only slightly swollen eyelids.
“It’s getting late, why don’t we go back to the hotel and rest?” Cha Meiling broke the silence first, her tone gentle and polite.
It was as if she wasn't the one arguing with Ning Bingyu in the parking lot just now.
"Hmm." Ning Bingyu responded indifferently, as if he hadn't noticed the atmosphere that Cha Meiling had deliberately created.
He turned to look at Chu Hongyu, raising an eyebrow: "Assistant Chu, you'll be sharing a room with Ning Yuan tonight, or I'll have Tony take you back to school."
"This..." Chu Hongyu was stunned for a moment, subconsciously looking at Ning Yuan, then at Ning Bingyu, and hesitated for a moment.
Ning Yuan said with a smile, "Sister Hongyu, don't be so polite with me tonight. It's quite boring living alone without Rong Zhaonan. Shall we chat?"
"Alright." Seeing that Ning Yuan had already said so, Chu Hongyu no longer refused.
Back in their hotel room, Chu Hongyu and Ning Yuan went straight upstairs; Tony hadn't come up yet after parking the car.
Only Ning Bingyu and Cha Meiling remained in the corridor, an awkward and subtle atmosphere filling the air.
Cha Meiling took a deep breath, trying to suppress the bitterness and repression in her heart, and said in a calm tone, "Brother Yu, I will think it over carefully, you..."
"I'll give you three days to think it through before you answer me. Also, if you want to investigate the family's assets, forget about being the vice president of the Morning Light Socialite Club."
Ning Bingyu turned and walked towards his room, interrupting her indifferently, his tone devoid of any warmth.
“My godmother promised me!” Cha Meiling immediately followed, looking at the indifferent man in front of her in disbelief.
She made the request to her godmother just a few days ago. Does he really want to be so ruthless and push her so hard?
She almost suspected that all those years of tenderness and affection he had shown her were just a dream!
“Brother Yu…” Cha Meiling stood at the door, wanting to say something more.
But Ning Bingyu interrupted him indifferently as he entered the room: "You're not qualified enough to be the vice president, and nomination won't do either. Other members will think Mommy is being too biased!"
Cha Mei-ling: "But it's Mommy..."
"Get out, I need to rest." He said coldly as he unbuttoned his clothes, his tone leaving no room for argument.
Cha Meiling bit her lip, holding back her tears, her fingertips almost drawing blood from her palms, and whispered, "Brother Yu, you should get some rest."
After saying that, he turned and left the room.
The moment she closed the door, she leaned against it expressionlessly, tears finally streaming down her face.
She had completely lost this man; he had taken back everything he had given her…
Bringing up your own mother or even your godmother won't help.
Cha Meiling closed her eyes, walked to the balcony of the corridor, looked out the window, and lit a cigarette.
The smoke blurred her cold, reddened eyes...
Men are all unreliable! Heartless and ungrateful, only their money matters! She once felt so guilty, but now, thinking about it…
Betraying him back then... wasn't entirely wrong.
Cha Meiling made up her mind!
