Chapter 696 Don't Go

The bag smelled of food—steamed dumplings and buns, still warm.

He then took two apples out of his pocket and gave them to Ning Yuan. They were bright red and looked especially tempting under the dim light.

"Where did this come from?" Ning Yuan raised an eyebrow, took the apple, and casually put it under her nose to smell it. A sweet fruity aroma wafted up.

"Young Master Ning had some late-night snacks prepared for his team members. I just grabbed some; it was nothing special," Rong Zhaonan said casually.

Ning Yuan couldn't help but find his explanation somewhat amusing.

This man clearly wanted to care about her, but he deliberately pretended to be indifferent.

She smelled the fresh scent of fruit, then reached out and gently touched the slightly damp ends of his hair, asking with a hint of teasing, "Oh, you washed your hair? You took a shower so soon?"

Rong Zhaonan grabbed her mischievous little hand and held it in his palm, his deep voice carrying a hint of amusement: "Hmm, took a quick shower." As he spoke, he pulled her over slightly to sit beside him.

Ning Yuan chuckled and sat down next to him with the steamed buns and dumplings, teasingly saying, "Your germaphobia is unparalleled. Are you carrying shower gel on a mission?"

A barely perceptible tenderness flashed in Rong Zhaonan's deep black eyes: "Now that we have the means, we should be more particular. If we were on the battlefield or on other missions, it wouldn't be strange if we didn't shower for a month."

He paused, his gaze falling on Ning Yuan's face: "Besides, I have a wife now, so I have to be considerate and not let my wife dislike me."

Ning Yuan's heart skipped a beat at his sudden sweet talk.

Dogs can be quite sweet sometimes...

Ning Yuan mischievously took a bite of her apple while playfully poking his chest, her gesture carrying a hint of provocation.

"Who's your wife? I'm Miss Seven, and you're my bodyguard. Don't call me that."

Upon hearing this, Rong Zhaonan suddenly reached out and pulled Ning Yuan into his arms.

He raised an eyebrow slightly with a half-smile: "Is that so? But bodyguards can't just enter Miss's room, for fear of offending her, but I've come in anyway."

His long, slender fingers gently caressed her slender waist, his tone laced with a hint of teasing and threat: "So, what do you say we do, my seventh young lady?"

His camouflage combat uniform still carried a hint of night dew dampness, instantly filling the room with a cool, woody scent mixed with the smell of shower gel—it smelled exceptionally pleasant.

Ning Yuan remained calm, offering him a half-eaten apple from her hand, and said with a smile—

"Nothing much, let's eat the midnight snack the bodyguard brought first. Others might be sneaking around, but we're doing a proper sneaking of food!"

Rong Zhaonan looked at the quirky little woman in front of him, his smile deepening.

He lowered his head and took a bite of the apple she had bitten: "Okay, I'll listen to Miss Qi, let's have a midnight snack first."

Rong Zhaonan simply picked up Ning Yuan and sat down on the sofa, and the two of them ate a late-night snack together.

The late-night snack Rong Zhaonan brought was simple: eight steaming hot red bean buns and a serving of twelve crystal-clear steamed dumplings.

Ning Yuan hadn't felt hungry at first, but the aroma made her unable to resist eating a steamed dumpling and a red bean bun.

The rest went into Rong Zhaonan's stomach. He hadn't eaten anything at the banquet, just like Ning Yuan, and with all that exercise, he naturally needed to replenish his energy.

Ning Yuan discovered that the "bodyguard," who had a sweet tooth, preferred red bean buns to steamed dumplings.

She rested her chin on her hand and watched Rong Zhaonan slowly finish the last red bean bun.

She couldn't help but laugh: "The bodyguard still has such a sweet tooth, preferring red bean buns to steamed dumplings?"

Rong Zhaonan did not deny it. He nodded and frankly admitted, "Yes, this red bean bun is better than the ones I had in Shanghai. It's sweet but not greasy, and it has a special aroma."

"It seems Mr. Bodyguard noticed it. This is the Cantonese style, with dried tangerine peel added to the red bean paste, which gives it that special aroma. And it doesn't use saccharin," Ning Yuan explained with a smile.

In the 1980s, sugar was considered a strategic resource in the resource-scarce inland areas and could be used to make bombs.

Therefore, many sweet foods contain saccharin, which has a slightly bitter taste.

The Hong Kong government has no shortage of supplies, so there is no need to replace white sugar with saccharin.

Ning Yuan said, "If you like it, I'll make it for you next time. I guarantee my red bean paste filling will be even better. We'll make it with Grandma and Grandpa Tang when we go back to Shanghai!"

Upon hearing this, Rong Zhaonan's eyes flashed with tenderness as he recalled his time in the rural village.

He smiled and said, "Okay, I'll roll out the dumpling wrappers for you."

As he spoke, he finished off the last red bean bun.

Then, together with Ning Yuan, they packed up the paper bags and went to the restroom to wash their hands and rinse their mouths.

"Alright, it's getting late, I should go. I need to go back and wait for Young Master Ning's news tomorrow morning." Rong Zhaonan looked at her and reached out to rub her head.

Ning Yuan raised her head, her clear eyes shining brightly in the dim light.

She stared at him intently, then suddenly whispered, "Give me a kiss before you leave."

Rong Zhaonan was taken aback, then a smile flashed in his obsidian-like eyes: "Seventh Miss is rarely this enthusiastic."

After saying that, he turned around and pulled Ning Yuan into his arms, then lowered his head and kissed her lips.

His kiss was domineering and passionate, carrying an irresistible possessiveness and fervor, as if he wanted to devour her whole.

Ning Yuan leaned against him, hugging his strong waist, as if she wanted to melt into his embrace.

Just then, a rapid knocking sound broke the romantic atmosphere in the room.

"Little sister, are you inside?" Ning Bing'an's voice rang out from outside the door.
