Chapter 697 Did I say that before?

Ning Yuan's eyes were somewhat dazed. The strength of Rong Zhaonan's embrace and the cool, alluring scent emanating from him made her feel weak all over.

But Ning Bing'an's voice from outside the door pulled her back to reality.

Inside the room, Ning Yuan's fingers unconsciously twirled around the buttons of Rong Zhaonan's camouflage uniform. Upon hearing Ning Bing'an's voice, she immediately sprang up as if electrocuted, nearly bumping into Rong Zhaonan's chin.

Rong Zhaonan grunted, giving her a deep look, his tone tinged with displeasure: "What?"

“It’s Ning Bing’an. He should be back after finishing up. I’ll go ask him about it,” Ning Yuan explained, tidying her slightly disheveled hair.

Rong Zhaonan's tone carried a hint of barely perceptible displeasure: "What is he doing here so late?"

Ning Yuan nudged his arm helplessly: "What can he do? Have you forgotten that he's in charge of liaising with the police tonight? He must be here at this hour to discuss serious business, or is he here on a date?"

Rong Zhaonan raised an eyebrow slightly: "He dares?"

But as he said this, he released his arm around Ning Yuan, indicating that she should do as she pleased.

Ning Yuan walked to the door, opened it, and sure enough, saw Ning Bing'an standing outside.

He was wearing a well-tailored, fitted Zhongshan suit, with two buttons undone at the collar, and his bangs, which were originally combed back, were slightly loosened and pressed down on his eyebrows.

Ning Bing'an's handsome face couldn't hide his exhaustion: "Little sister."

"Third Brother, how did things go tonight?" Ning Yuan asked softly, her tone calm and without the slightest hint of panic.

She glanced down the corridor to make sure no one else was there.

Ning Bing'an rubbed his temples, his tone heavy with melancholy: "Besides the five gunmen who died tonight, not including the Director of Customs and Excise of the Hong Kong government, three celebrities and one waiter died, and eight people were injured. The West Kowloon Regional Crime Unit has now taken over the case."

"What did the police say?" Ning Yuan frowned slightly, clearly shocked by the number.

“The police already know that the other party is targeting me, or rather, the Ning family. There are many reporters and paparazzi here, and the scene of the shooting is now completely surrounded.”

Ning Bing'an's tone was heavy, clearly indicating that he was also feeling unprecedented pressure.

Ning Bing'an sighed wearily, "It's too late to say anything now. The most urgent thing is to find a way to suppress this matter and not let it affect the reputation of the Ning family."

"This matter has already alarmed the police, and it's probably beyond our juniors' ability to handle."

Ning Yuan didn't invite him into the room, but calmly analyzed the situation.

"It will probably require the old man, my uncle, and my elder brother to step in."

Her delicate brows furrowed: "The paparazzi in Hong Kong are always sharp. They'll quickly find out that the Ning family is involved. They'll probably go to the Ning Group's building to besiege and interview them, and it might even affect the Ning Group's stock price."

“That’s right, I’ve already spoken with my father, and my elder brother knows about it too.” Ning Bing’an nodded slightly.

He paused, his gaze falling on Ning Yuan's face, a complex emotion flashing in his phoenix eyes: "As expected of a daughter of the Ning family, your first reaction is to affect the stock price. No wonder the old master thinks highly of you."

Ning Yuan said calmly, "Thank you for the compliment, Brother Bing'an. Thank you for telling me the news. Go and get some rest; you've been working hard all night."

Ning Bing'an was silent for a moment, then handed her a new imported insulated box—

"This is boat congee. I got it from a long-established congee shop. It tastes even better than what my family's chef makes. It's the authentic old Hong Kong flavor. I ate some and then brought you a serving."

After saying that, without waiting for Ning Yuan's reaction, he stuffed it in and turned to leave.

Ning Yuan was stunned and wanted to call out to Ning Bing'an, but it was too late; he had already gone downstairs.

She immediately felt the man behind her, Rong Zhaonan, sharpen his gaze, like a leopard eyeing its prey.

He wrapped his arms around Ning Yuan's waist, pinned her against the wall, and whispered in her ear, "What? Young Master Bing'an is bringing Miss Seven a midnight snack so late, how thoughtful of him?"

His tone carried a hint of barely perceptible jealousy, and his hot breath made Ning Yuan's ears itch.

Ning Yuan was both amused and exasperated. She could only turn around, stand on tiptoe, and pat Rong Zhaonan's cheek as if coaxing a child, her tone tinged with helplessness and reassurance:

"Captain Rong, please stop being so jealous, okay?"

She paused for a moment, then placed the thermos containing the congee on the table.

"Besides, tonight's situation is special, and he just brought it for me on the side. Don't be jealous." Ning Yuan coaxed him softly, her tone carrying a hint of helpless amusement.

Rong Zhaonan chuckled, but his eyes held a hint of dismissive amusement: "What? I've never seen him bring me midnight snacks. I did save his life, so I guess I'm his savior, right?"

Ning Yuan was both amused and exasperated; why was this man taking it so seriously?

"How many times do I have to explain? Ning Bing'an and I are purely business partners. Stop making a scene, okay?!"

Rong Zhaonan suddenly looked down at her intently for a while, then chuckled lightly, "Stop fooling around... This sounds familiar. Didn't I say something similar when Ye Dong caused trouble back then?"

Ning Yuan was taken aback, looking at Rong Zhaonan with a complicated expression: "Rong Zhaonan..."

Rong Zhaonan said calmly, "Now I think those words were fucking bastards. I was definitely a bastard back then."

Before Ning Yuan could reply, he chuckled self-deprecatingly and gently ruffled her hair: "I'll go find Young Master Ning first. You should get some rest."

After saying that, he turned to leave.

As Ning Yuan watched his tall and slender back as he walked to the door and was about to open it to leave, an indescribable feeling welled up in her heart.

I can't quite put my finger on whether it's fear, anxiety, or some other emotion.

She felt a sudden panic, as if someone had grabbed her arm.

Almost instinctively, Ning Yuan reached out and grabbed Rong Zhaonan's clothes, hugging him from behind.

"etc……"

Rong Zhaonan paused.

Ning Yuan released her grip on his clothes, then suddenly wrapped her arms around his waist from behind, gently pressing her cheek against his broad back.

"There won't be any news so soon. You're still on leave tonight, so stay with me for the night before you leave."

Rong Zhaonan gently patted her hand and said in a calm tone, "No, I have to go back. I have a lot of things to take care of tomorrow."

"Then it'll be an hour and a half." Ning Yuan's voice was very soft, almost like a murmur.

The room became so quiet you could hear a pin drop.

One and a half hours.

That was an unspoken secret between him and Ning Yuan.

That was a unit of time that belonged exclusively to their once intimate relationship, a testament to countless nights of tender affection.

Ning Yuan rarely makes requests on her own initiative.

Rong Zhaonan suddenly turned around and looked down at Ning Yuan, who was standing right in front of him.

"An hour and a half?"

He repeated it, his voice slightly hoarse.

Under the dim light, her fair skin glowed with a radiant sheen, and her long eyelashes trembled slightly, like butterflies about to take flight.

His eyes deepened, and his tone carried a hint of roguishness and deep affection: "Since Miss Seven has spoken, then of course I will risk my life to accompany you."

As Rong Zhaonan spoke, he suddenly lowered his head, captured Ning Yuan's soft lips, pried open her pearly teeth, and plunged in, conquering her territory.

"Ugh..." Ning Yuan could only let out a muffled sob.
