Zhang Suzhen went to the county town on business that day and saw Su Hang on the street. When she got home, she described it to Liu Nian, "Oh, it was so satisfying to see! He deserved it!"
"Who knew he would end up like this?" Liu Nian touched her stomach, her eyes somewhat dazed.
The events of her previous life seemed to be fading into the distance. It had only been a little over five months since her rebirth, yet she felt as if she had lived through another world.
She was so happy now, it felt unreal. Liu Nian stopped, feeling the interaction between the little ones and her.
A smile played on her lips, and she felt a sense of relief.
“Our factory is almost ready,” Zhang Suzhen said. “Once the hospital has set up the equipment, I can start working with the workers.”
During this period, Liu Nian was heavily pregnant and unable to move around easily, so Zhang Suzhen was the one running errands for the factory.
To Liu Nian's surprise, Zhang Suzhen was actually a strong woman, capable in both domestic and international matters, and handling matters meticulously.
"Then let's wait for the hospital," Liu Nian said. "It's October now, and people are busy with the autumn harvest."
October is the time to harvest corn. In the past, without machinery, people had to break the corn ears off the stalks one by one, then cut the stalks with sickles and bundle them up.
The corn stalks were chopped up and used as feed for the livestock. The corn roots that were still growing in the ground had to be dug out with a pickaxe, dried, and used for cooking.
Therefore, harvesting corn is an extremely strenuous task, involving several steps and requiring a considerable amount of time to complete.
October weather still has the lingering heat of late summer; corn silk and leaves scratch people's faces and arms, causing both pain and itching. Wearing too many clothes makes you hot, but not wearing any makes you uncomfortable.
Since they were working for the government anyway, and each extra day they worked meant an extra day's worth of work points, people weren't very motivated.
When Su Xu returned home that evening, he was covered in dust and dirt, with several scratches on his face. He stood in the yard, patting the corn silk and broken leaves off his clothes.
Upon hearing the sound, Liu Nian quickly went over, took the towel from Su Xu's hand, wiped his face, and couldn't help but say, "My sister-in-law told me she saw Su Hang."
"Hmm?" Su Xu rubbed his head and asked with a smile, "How is Su Hang?"
"Begging in the streets of the county town, he's having a miserable time." Liu Nian stopped what she was doing, looked up at Su Xu, and said, "That's really satisfying."
Her eyes gleamed with smugness, and Liu Nian knew that her man was avenging her.
"As long as I'm here, no one can hurt you." Su Xu lowered his eyes, his gaze resolute.
Liu Nian looked into his eyes and nodded firmly, "I believe you!"
Their current good life is something they could never have imagined before.
Upon entering the house, an indescribable stench assaulted Su Xu's nose; it was so familiar.
"You ordered snail rice noodles again?" Su Xu said helplessly, turning around and walking outside. He wanted to get some fresh air.
Liu Nian smirked, "Look at how disgusted you are! You were just confessing your feelings to me so resolutely, and now you've been defeated by snail rice noodles!"
Su Xu stopped abruptly as he stepped out the door, turned around with difficulty, and put on a smile, "Wife, you're overthinking it."
Luosifen (river snail rice noodles) was a stumbling block on his road to love. Su Xu really didn't want to stay in this house; it was torture for someone who didn't eat Luosifen.
"Crayfish, pizza! Korean fried chicken, and snail rice noodles," Liu Nian introduced to Su Xu one by one.
Su Xu resignedly plopped down in his seat and began peeling crayfish for Liu Nian.
Liu Nian's mouth was greasy from eating. Su Xu's gaze fell on her face, and he reached out to wipe her mouth with a helpless yet affectionate expression: "Sweetie, eat slowly."
Seeing the scratches on Su Xu's face and arms, Liu Nian felt a pang of heartache and gently touched them.
The soft, gentle touch against his skin quickly aroused Su Xu's desire.
He still had a piece of pizza in his mouth, and suddenly he couldn't taste anything in his mouth anymore.
The young woman frowned, pursed her lips, and looked up with a face full of heartache. "It's really suffering."
"Your little face is so adorable," Su Xu coughed softly and said, "Why don't you treat me to something?"
He licked his lips, his eyes fixed on Liu Nian like a wolf.
