"Dapeng, what are you doing?" someone passing by asked curiously. "Are you doing a good deed?"
Zhou Hongyi was trying to come up with an excuse to avoid gossip, but Li Dapeng spoke first.
"Our team leader ordered me to come. We have harvesters, and my sister-in-law even borrowed a planting machine, so we don't need that many people. He just sent me out." Li Dapeng wiped the sweat from his brow and glanced cautiously at Zhou Hongyi.
Zhou Hongyi naturally knew why Li Dapeng said that—he was afraid of gossiping about Xiuxiu, and she also knew that Su Xu was definitely not someone who would "use public office for private gain."
Now she thought highly of Li Dapeng, never expecting him to be so thoughtful.
Xiuxiu was walking out when she overheard this. She raised an eyebrow; she had guessed it just as she suspected. It was related to Su Xu, and it wasn't a roundabout tactic—Su Xu had sent them directly.
Xiuxiu stepped out the door, and Li Dapeng gave her a sheepish smile before quickly starting to dig. Xiuxiu and Zhou Hongyi wanted to help, but he wouldn't let them.
Zhou Hongyi hurried home to prepare a meal, not wanting anyone to leave hungry after doing so much work.
To everyone's surprise, when the mother and daughter finished cooking and came out, they found that Li Dapeng had run away!
"You know, this kid, I clearly told him to stay for dinner, but he ran off pretty fast." Zhou Hongyi chuckled softly. "He's a nice guy, isn't he, Xiuxiu?"
Xiuxiu hummed in agreement.
These past few days, Li Dapeng has been running to Xiuxiu's house whenever he has a spare moment. He rushes to do chores without saying a word, and he won't even eat when he stays for a meal. At most, he'll drink a bowl of water, and then he'll run off as soon as he's done.
After finishing his work at Xiuxiu's house, he went straight to his assigned field, afraid that others would say he was delaying the team's affairs, so he volunteered to do everything.
Su Xu said quietly, "Da Peng, don't go to Xiu Xiu's house to work tomorrow."
"What?" Li Dapeng was digging up the corn roots in the field when he was taken aback and said, "I won't delay our work. I'll catch up on what I missed."
Seeing Li Dapeng's nervous expression, Su Xu glanced at him and said, "Aren't you usually very obedient to me? If I tell you to go to Xiuxiu's house to do chores, you go; if I tell you not to go, you don't have to go."
Realizing his lie had been exposed, Li Dapeng's face flushed red. "Captain, hehe, sorry."
Enraged, Su Xu punched Li Dapeng a few times, saying, "Get back to your work."
That evening, Su Xu and Liu Nian snuggled into bed, and Liu Nian laughed as he recounted what Su Xu had said.
“He just doesn’t want people to talk about Xiuxiu.” Liu Nian leaned against Su Xu and tapped his chest with her finger, saying, “There are actually very few men who are truly caring.”
Su Xu grabbed Liu Nian's fingers, hooking them together, and said, "What about me? Do I have a heart?"
"You have no heart." Liu Nianying smiled and looked up.
Meeting the young woman's eyes, Su Xu lowered his gaze and pouted, "I have no heart? Does Niannian think I did something wrong?"
The man looked at him with a wronged expression, and finally pursed his lips tightly.
Liu Nian quickly reached out and hooked her arms around the man's neck, gently pressing her lips to his and saying, "You have no heart because your heart is with me."
Su Xu was finally satisfied. He raised his eyebrows, lowered his head, and deepened the kiss.
Their lips rubbed together, their tongues traced the edges, and then plunged in.
Liu Nian's eyes were glistening with tears. When Su Xu looked up, he took a deep breath and didn't dare to look at Liu Nian again.
Su Xu was afraid he wouldn't be able to control himself, and he really didn't dare to make a move this month.
"So, when are they coming out?" Su Xu sighed, leaning on Liu Nian's shoulder, suppressing his inner turmoil, and silently chanting a calming mantra.
In the end, it was Liu Nian who comforted the man, and he finally gave up.
"Oh, right." Liu Nian, who was lying in the man's arms, suddenly seemed to remember something, and her expression changed.
