Chapter 19 We'll see if it works by trying (1/2)

Chapter 19: We'll find out if it works by trying.

However, Liu Nian remained calm. If he couldn't defeat them all by himself, he would take them down one by one.

Liu Nian crossed his arms, coldly glanced at the crowd, and said nothing. Finally, he fixed his gaze on an old woman in a blue cloth shirt in the crowd.

For some reason, the old woman felt uneasy being stared at by Liu Nian, and her heart started pounding.

"Why are you staring at me like that!" The old woman stopped shouting slogans and shifted uncomfortably, feeling a cold wind running down her spine.

Liu Nian stared intently into her eyes, tilting her head slightly upwards. "Auntie, why don't you share the wild vegetables you picked with everyone?"

"Huh?" The old woman was taken aback, taking a few steps back in fright at Liu Nian's cold gaze. "I've been picking wild vegetables all this time, but no one asked me to share them with everyone. Besides, I'm not the only one picking wild vegetables!"

Liu Nian nodded, then looked at a young woman wearing a red headscarf. "Sister-in-law, you raise a few pigs, right? You have to go out to gather pig feed every day, but no one asks you to share it with everyone, right?"

"And you!" Liu Nian raised her gaze to Liu Xiangxiang. "I haven't seen you pick any less wild fruit from the back hill. You have thoughts and awareness, why don't you take it out? Besides, didn't you say you don't like eating fish? Do you feel nauseous at the smell of fish?"

Liu Xiangxiang blushed and said, "Can't I give it to my Su Hang?"

The group looked at each other, opened their mouths hesitantly, but didn't know how to retort, so they kept quiet.

"Originally, the fish in the river, the wild, and the mountains belonged to whoever was lucky enough to find them. If you don't share them, why should I?" Liu Nian retorted, "You agree with that, don't you?"

"Besides, I'm not the only one who's lucky. You guys would be better off guarding the riverbank instead." Liu Nian looked towards the corner.

Wang Shiguo was walking this way, beaming with joy, carrying two large carp in his hands. He smiled at everyone he met, his eyes practically disappearing with laughter.

The group of people were stunned when they saw the large fish in Wang Shiguo's hand.

Liu Nian smiled gently, "Why don't you go for another walk along the river?"

After saying this sarcastically, Liu Nian walked towards Wang Shiguo with a smile, "Uncle Wang, you're in luck today too!"

"Yes, as soon as I got to the riverbank, I heard a splash and I saw two big fish!" Wang Shiguo laughed out loud.

It was strange to anyone who came; the two fish seemed to have appeared out of thin air. Wang Shiguo even thought he was seeing things.

Now nobody was clamoring to divide the fish anymore. They quickly grabbed their basins and ran to the river. Besides, if they caught too many fish, none of them wanted to share them, so no one brought up the topic of dividing the fish again.

Liu Nian watched the backs of the group and sneered. Dealing with these people didn't require her to use her brain at all.

The fish was cooked, and Liu Nian served it. She also cooked a pot of rice, boiled water, set the table, and waited for Su Xu to return.

The fence gate was pushed open, and Liu Nian craned his neck to look over—Liu Xiangxiang and Wang Xiuzhi, covered in mud, stood in front with long faces, Su Zhenye stood behind them expressionless, and Su Xu was at the back, turning around to close the fence gate.

"Mom! Did you catch any fish?" Su Zhimeng rushed out upon hearing the commotion, his fleshy body trembling. When he saw the empty basin, his face immediately fell. "I don't care, I want to eat fish!"

"Su Xu, you're back!" Liu Nian immediately pushed open the door and went out, without even glancing at Su Zhimeng, and pulled Su Xu over, "I've made you dinner."

"You cooked fish? Bring it out and eat it!" Su Zhenye was a man of his word; he was used to running the household.

He licked his lips, also feeling incredibly hungry.

"Oh, right, Dad, you didn't know, did you? We've already separated our households. From now on, we won't be sharing food and supplies with you anymore." Liu Nian glanced at Wang Xiuzhi and said, "By the way, Mom stole my things, right in front of the Women's Federation director, and it even implicated you. You should ask her about it."

The door slammed shut again, the movement so fast that the group of people had a chance to react.

Liu Nian was still holding Su Xu's hand, leading him all the way to the table. Only then did the two belatedly realize that their hands were still clasped.

Both of them blushed. Liu Nian quickly withdrew her hand, smiled shyly, and lifted the lid of the rice bowl, saying, "Eat quickly."
