"However, I know her very well. If you have anything urgent, I can help you contact her."
The couple were initially disappointed to hear that she wasn't the person they were looking for, but when Liu Ye said she could help them contact Zhou Ruolan, they were both surprised and delighted.
They exchanged a glance and bowed deeply to Liu Ye together.
When they looked up, their eyes were already filled with tears.
The man wiped away his tears with his sleeve and explained his purpose.
“Young lady, here’s the thing. We’re from the countryside. We came to the county town to get our child medical treatment. My daughter is fourteen years old and in school. I don’t know why she fell ill. The doctors in the village couldn’t treat her, so we had to bring her to the county hospital.”
The man wiped away his tears and continued.
"Who knew that the diagnosis was leukemia? My husband and I borrowed a lot of money to treat our child, but we still couldn't save him."
“Just yesterday, our child left us. She loved Zhou Ruolan’s songs and would hum a few lines almost every day. While she was hospitalized, she even wrote a few songs herself. She said that when she recovered, she would dedicate these songs to Zhou Ruolan.”
As he spoke, the man took a red diary out of his bag and handed it to Liu Ye.
“These are the songs our child wrote. My husband and I can’t read, so we don’t know if they’re good or not. But before our child passed away, he entrusted us to make sure that these songs were given to Teacher Zhou. He told us that no matter what we did, we had to get Teacher Zhou to agree to sing the songs he wrote so that she could hear them from heaven.”
The couple were almost sobbing as they spoke.
Liu Ye was also heartbroken as she listened, for the suffering of this family and that unfortunate girl.
She quietly opened the notebook, wanting to see what songs the child had written. If possible, she also wanted to fulfill the child's wish and let Zhou Ruolan choose a few to sing.
