Zhang Cheng left the old village chief's house with a smile.
The old village chief regarded him as his prospective son-in-law, which is why he always greeted him with a smile.
But now.
The two electricians, carrying their tools, entered the house and were taken aback when they saw the old village chief with a livid face.
The old village chief took a deep breath, forced an awkward smile, and looked at the two electricians: "You two go and install the other electricians first, I have some things to do at home."
"Alright!" The two electricians exchanged a glance, then turned and left.
With teary eyes, Da Nuan looked at the flustered Du Shansheng: "Shansheng, why did you lie to me?"
"I...I didn't lie to you. Da Nuan, I really want to marry you."
The old village chief stared at Du Shansheng, who was still trying to argue, and said in an icy voice, "Du Shansheng, how much does a commercial apartment cost in Funing County? Don't try to fool me. I'll go to the county to ask later!"
Du Shansheng's forehead was covered in sweat, and his lips trembled for a long time before he finally uttered a few words: "Two, three thousand a set."
The old village chief's chest heaved with anger: "Then why did you say seven or eight thousand? Are you trying to cheat my family out of our money?"
"Uncle, I didn't mean to cheat you out of your money! I really intend to buy a house, and the property deed will be in Da Nuan's name. Uncle, you have to believe me!"
The old village chief, enraged, slammed his fist on the table and pointed at Da Nuan, who was sobbing on Xiao Nuan's shoulder: "What are you crying for! Look at the man you found! Don't bring any monsters home in the future. You, Zhang Da Nuan, may not have any shame, but I do!"
He was panting heavily, "If it weren't for Er Gouzi, not only would you have been swindled out of your money, but that bastard would have also ruined you!"
The old village chief suddenly stiffened and lowered his voice: "Da Nuan, tell your father the truth, did this bastard take advantage of you?"
"No, no, no!" Before Da Nuan could speak, Du Shansheng waved his hands hastily, "Uncle, I admit I lied to you, but my feelings for Da Nuan are genuine, I swear!"
"Get the hell out of here!" The old village chief grabbed the enamel basin from the table and slammed it down on Du Shansheng's head.
"Bang!"
The basin didn't break, but Du Shansheng's head was cracked open.
"Ah!" Du Shansheng screamed, clutching his head and collapsing to the ground.
Da Nuan screamed, "Dad, don't hit him!"
"I wish I could kill him!" The old village chief grew angrier the more he thought about it, and kicked Du Shansheng in the stomach. "You'll get away with lying! You'll get away with lying!"
"Ah! Uncle, stop hitting me!" Du Shansheng curled up like a shrimp on the ground.
Meanwhile, the two electricians who had left the old village chief's house caught up with Zhang Cheng.
"Mr. Zhang, let me help you install the power first. The atmosphere at the village chief's house... something's not right."
"Yes, the village chief's face was terrifyingly dark!"
Zhang Cheng smiled, did not refuse, and led them back to the consignment store.
Shi Yangyang had already gotten up and was sitting on the rattan chair by the door. When she saw Zhang Cheng, her cheeks flushed slightly, and she lowered her head.
Aunt Hua was sweeping dust off the counter with a feather duster.
Zhang Cheng let the two electricians go in to install the wires, while he squatted down next to Shi Yangyang, grinning as he looked at her profile.
I like this wife more and more the more I look at her.
Shi Yangyang felt uncomfortable under his gaze and stood up abruptly: "I...I'll go feed my little sister something." She quickly walked towards the kitchen.
"I'll go with you." Zhang Cheng was worried about her going alone.
"Aunt Hua, Yangyang and I are going out for a bit."
“Go ahead, go ahead!” Aunt Hua replied with a smile.
Shi Yangyang carried a vegetable basket containing a piece of cured meat, her face flushed, and walked ahead with her head down.
Zhang Cheng followed beside her, teasing her: "Honey, isn't you afraid of such a big tiger?"
"At first it was afraid, but then it wasn't anymore. My older sister is very perceptive; if you treat her well, she remembers it."
Soon, the two arrived at the back of the village.
Shi Yangyang put down the basket, looked around, and not seeing her younger sister, she cupped her hands to her mouth and called out, "Younger sister, time to eat!"
The sound echoed through the valley.
"Roar!" A tiger's roar came from afar.
Zhang Cheng looked in the direction of the sound and saw a striped tiger leaping towards them.
A smile spread across Shi Yangyang's face as she bent down, picked up her basket, and went to greet him.
Zhang Cheng felt a tightness in his calves and followed.
When they reached the tiger, Shi Yangyang smiled and took out some cured meat from the basket, tossing it to the tiger.
Zhang Cheng stood next to Shi Yangyang, took her hand, and stared warily at the tiger wolfing down its food.
It had a fishy, foul smell.
The tiger smells even stronger than last time.
Zhang Cheng frowned. This smell... why does it have a rotten stench?
His heart skipped a beat. Had this guy bit someone to death in the mountains?
No, if someone really died, the village would have been in an uproar.
Where does this putrid smell come from? Tigers don't eat carrion.
After finishing the cured meat, the tiger shook its head and headed towards the back of the mountain.
Zhang Cheng stared at its retreating figure, his brows furrowing even more deeply. He said to Shi Yangyang, "Yangyang, you go back first."
"What are you going to do?" Shi Yangyang asked nervously.
"That tiger smells strange, I'll follow it and check it out!"
"I'll go with you!" Shi Yangyang's eyes were firm. "My younger sister doesn't recognize your scent. What if she hurts you..."
“Okay, let’s go together.” Zhang Cheng was also a little scared, but he couldn’t back down.
He took Shi Yangyang's hand and quickly chased after the tiger.
The tiger in front glanced back at them, but ignored them and continued walking through the forest.
After walking for more than ten miles, the tiger came to a mountain stream, lay down on a large rock, and began to doze off.
Zhang Cheng was speechless.
Shi Yangyang laughed: "My little sister is lazy, she just eats and then goes to sleep." She pulled Zhang Cheng and walked towards the big rock.
The tiger twitched its nose, recognized Shi Yangyang, and didn't even bother to lift its eyelids.
Shi Yangyang pulled Zhang Cheng to the tiger's side and gently stroked its belly.
