"Brother Mingshen!" she called to Wei Mingshen as she stood at the door of the men's room.
The group of male guests, who were noisily drinking and playing drinking games, all looked at her.
Her husband asked her innocently, "Why do you call Mingshen 'brother'?"
She said disdainfully, "You eat yours, I need to talk to Brother Mingshen about something, something very important."
With so many people around, and his cousin-in-law wanting to see him, Wei Mingshen couldn't very well refuse, so he got up from his seat and left.
"Come with me." Ignoring everyone's stares, she grabbed Wei Mingshen's arm and started walking.
Once inside her room, she closed the door and pushed Wei Mingshen to sit down in a chair.
Wei Mingshen looked at her helplessly and said, "Second sister-in-law, I'm eating right now. If you have something to say, say it quickly, don't delay my meal."
Zhang Lianhua's eyes suddenly reddened, and she looked extremely aggrieved.
Wei Mingshen had no choice but to ask, "Second sister-in-law, what's wrong? Did your second brother bully you? He wouldn't dare."
"Your wife bullied me."
Wei Mingshen frowned. "Why would my wife bully you?"
Zhang Lianhua embellished her story and told him what had just happened, making herself sound utterly innocent. She claimed her words were unintentional, but Su Xueli deliberately attacked her.
Wei Mingshen chuckled as he listened, then got up and walked outside, saying, "I understand, Second Sister-in-law. I'll teach her a lesson when we get home."
“Hey, you can’t leave. You have to apologize to me properly on behalf of your wife.” Zhang Lianhua grabbed him.
Wei Mingshen removed her hand and said, "Second sister-in-law, I'm hungry. I'll apologize to you properly after I've eaten. Don't be angry anymore, go eat. Won't my second brother blame me if you starve?"
"Hehe, look at your mouth, but I love your mouth." Zhang Lianhua laughed and hooked her arm around Wei Mingshen's again.
Wei Mingshen dodged without making a sound and stepped out of her room.
"Hey, don't rush off!" Zhang Lianhua chased after her.
Then, he said hesitantly, "I'll wait for you inside later. Come over after you've eaten."
Wei Mingshen readily agreed, thus escaping unscathed.
With Wei Mingshen's promise and having just had "close contact" with him, Zhang Lianhua was in a great mood. She sneered inwardly and returned to her seat.
They were all relatives, and even though she was back, someone still gave her a way out. Wei Mingyue pretended nothing had happened and asked her, "What were you busy with just now, Second Sister-in-law? You've brought out a few more dishes. Come and eat."
Zhang Lianhua glanced at Su Xueli smugly, "I was talking to your brother just now. Your brother, that mouth of his can make you angry or happy. What kind of person is he? He's both annoying and lovable, hehehe."
Normally, it's not a big deal for a sister-in-law to joke around with her brother, but her tone and expression clearly implied something was amiss.
Su Xueli remained expressionless, but Cao Maizi's expression changed instantly. She slammed her water glass hard on the table, making a loud "thud".
But Zhang Lianhua pretended not to see it and directly challenged Su Xueli, "Sister-in-law, does Brother Mingshen talk to you a lot? Does he always sweet-talk you?"
"Sherry, hurry up and eat. We have things to do after you finish eating," Cao Maizi said loudly.
Even a fool could tell that she meant her daughter-in-law shouldn't pay any attention to her.
"Auntie, why won't you let me say something to my sister-in-law?" Zhang Lianhua said unhappily.
He thought to himself, "My brother Ming Shen doesn't even care about his wife, so why are you protecting her? It's like scratching an itch with six fingers, why are you adding fuel to the fire?"
