Su Xueli instructed her: "You're earning your own money, so don't be too frugal. You need to eat well and be full. Money isn't saved, it's earned."
The two of them, each pushing a bicycle, walked slowly out of the market while talking.
When they reached a secluded spot, Yan Yan stopped the car and approached Su Xue Li, her eyes sparkling, and said, "Xue Li, I have something to tell you. Hua Biao came to my stall at noon today and said he would take me to a restaurant for lunch this weekend."
He invited Secretary Zhang to dinner; he's the same person we met at the restaurant in the county town that day.
Su Xueli's alarm bells were ringing in her mind. She looked at Yan Yan and instructed her, "Yan Yan, that secretary doesn't look like a good person at all. You need to keep that in mind and not let him take advantage of you."
Yan Yan wasn't so shrewd. After hearing these words, she blamed Su Xue Li for being overly suspicious, saying, "Xue Li, look at you. He's the town's Party Secretary, a cadre. He wouldn't do anything reckless."
Su Xueli knew that she loved her boyfriend and also admired the people he fawned over.
Yan Yan wouldn't believe anything she said at this moment, so she could only make her suffer a loss before she would be convinced. But it was still useful to give her a heads-up beforehand.
Su Xueli sighed and said, "I hope I'm just being paranoid, but you can't be too careful. You're a great beauty, and not only men, but women would want to get close to you. You have to be careful and protect yourself."
Yan Yan fell silent.
When Su Xueli got home, she found Wei Mingyue waiting for her.
Liu Fengying was naturally very happy to see that her daughter and sister-in-law were treating her so well. She smiled and said to Su Xueli, "Ni'er, you've just come back. Your sister has been waiting for you for a while. Come and drink some hot water and go home with your sister."
Wei Mingyue smiled insincerely and said, "Sister-in-law, I've come to take you home."
Su Xueli knew that Wei Mingshen had forced her to come and pick her up, but considering that she still had to do straw weaving to earn money that night, she had no choice but to go back.
She smiled and said, "Then thank you for your hard work, Mingyue."
As her daughter was leaving, Liu Fengying quietly asked her, "Has Mingshen come back from outside yet?"
Su Xueli said, "No."
Liu Fengying clicked her tongue, "Why hasn't he come back yet? It's almost Chinese New Year. Isn't it dangerous for him to be out there supporting the army or something?"
Su Xueli suppressed a laugh and said, "No."
As soon as Wei Mingyue rode her bicycle with Su Xueli out of Peach Blossom Village, she saw Wei Mingshen in the distance.
He was worried that his sister might talk nonsense to his wife on the way, so he waited for her outside the village.
The three of them shared one bicycle. Wei Mingshen waved to his sister, "You ride your bike home by yourself. Your sister-in-law and I will walk home."
Wei Mingyue rolled her eyes at the two of them, deliberately letting Su Xueli hear, "I'm going to the town store to buy things tomorrow; she's waiting for me to bring her a message."
After saying that, he hopped on his bicycle and sped off.
Wei Mingshen ignored her words and said to Su Xueli, "Home isn't too far away, it'll be warmer if we walk."
As Su Xueli walked, she asked, "Are you afraid that if I'm alone with your sister, I'll find out something I shouldn't know?"
Wei Mingshen spread his hands: "A gentleman is open and honest. Every time I met her after we got married, you were there. What is there that you shouldn't know?"
Su Xueli asked, "Then why are you still wary of her? Why did you ask her to come pick me up from home while you waited for me here?"
Looking at the fiery red sunset, Wei Mingshen said, "You know that Mingyue is determined to break us up, and she'll stop at nothing to do it. I'm afraid she'll say something nasty to you and upset you."
Su Xueli looked at him, "You care so much about my feelings?"
Wei Mingshen asked, "Isn't that how it should be? You're my wife. If my wife is happy, I'll have a good life; if she's unhappy, I'll suffer."
