Wei Mingshen sighed and said, "Meizhi, I haven't been feeling well these past few days either. Let's not talk about this anymore. Let's talk about our relationship later."
Lin Meizhi felt a deep sense of powerlessness. She stood up, grabbed his arm, and asked, "Ming Shen, tell me, when are we going to get married?"
"What do you mean, what do you mean?"
"What are you going to do? You're divorced from her, shouldn't we get married?"
"I haven't thought about that."
Lin Meizhi bit her lip. "Ming Shen, you've really changed your mind. You don't have me in your heart anymore."
Wei Mingshen said, "No, not exactly."
"Then you still have me in your heart?" Hope rekindled in her eyes.
Wei Mingshen shook his head, stepped onto the bicycle, and said, "Get on."
The voice was authoritative without being angry, and Lin Meizhi subconsciously straddled the back seat, wrapping her arms around his waist.
Wei Mingshen asked, "Are you seated properly?" Then he pedaled hard and sped forward.
The two remained silent throughout the journey. Lin Meizhi was helpless and didn't know what to say, while Wei Mingshen didn't want to say anything at all.
He took her to a small restaurant in town, ignoring Lin Meizhi's bad habits, and went in to order a bowl of shredded pork noodles and a plate of vegetables from the proprietress.
Lin Meizhi didn't dare to complain about the restaurant being dirty or bad; she picked up her chopsticks and ate as soon as the noodles and dishes were served.
Wei Mingshen sat opposite her, but his eyes were looking out the window, as if he had something on his mind.
Seeing him like this, Lin Meizhi didn't dare to say anything more and could only eat silently. Knowing that he didn't like wasting food, she still managed to finish a bowl of noodles and a plate of vegetables. She felt like vomiting, but she managed to suppress it.
Wei Mingshen paid the bill and said, "Let's go."
Lin Meizhi obediently took her bag and followed Wei Mingshen out of the restaurant. She then sat in the back seat of his car and headed towards her home.
She suddenly spoke up, "Ming Shen, can we stop and talk?"
Wei Mingshen said, "Let's go. You have to work tomorrow, and I also have a lot to do tomorrow. Let's talk again when we have time."
"When are you free?" she pressed him on.
Wei Mingshen said, "I will come to the store to find you."
Lin Meizhi then asked urgently, "Are you coming tomorrow?"
Wei Mingshen sighed and said, "I'm not free tomorrow."
"And the day after tomorrow?"
He couldn't bear it and said in a low voice, "I might not be available."
Lin Meizhi pouted, on the verge of tears.
Wei Mingshen said, "I'll try my best."
She closed her mouth again.
Wei Mingshen parked the car not far from her house and said, "We're here. Let's go back."
Lin Meizhi remained seated in the car, refusing to get out.
Wei Mingshen turned to look at her and said, "Let's go home."
Lin Meizhi obediently got out of the car, looked at him pitifully and said, "Ming Shen, I told my father that I will marry no one but you."
Wei Mingshen said, "Perhaps you are suited for someone better. You are a good catch and could easily find someone with a government-subsidized job."
Lin Meizhi cried out in a hoarse voice, "Ming Shen, are you... abandoning me?"
Wei Mingshen shook his head: "Meizhi, we were never approved by either of our parents in the first place, and now I'm a divorced man. I'm not good enough for you."
