Chapter Seventeen: One Monkey, One Tying Method

"Sister, go inside and rest. I'll wash the dishes later," Wang Baomin said to Wang Chunni in a low voice.

"It's alright, I don't need much sleep," Wang Chunni said to Wang Baomin with a smile.

There are many children in the family, and it's impossible for Mom to take care of them all. Now that Dad is gone, it's no big deal for me, as the eldest sister, to take extra care of them.

"Sister, you're still not fully recovered. Go to work tomorrow and don't worry about what others say. I'm here for you." Wang Baomin felt a warmth in his heart.

"Come on, my sister is a full-time employee now. You're just a temporary worker and you don't even earn as much as she does. Are you trying to scam her out of her money?" Wang Baoshan couldn't help but mock Wang Chunni and Wang Baomin, who were acting like close sisters.

Don't try to isolate yourself. It's good for two people to be alone together. Even if you're good to each other, you should still include yourself in the conversation. It's best to be with yourself.

Wang Baomin: "..."

"Baomin, are you short of money?" Wang Chunni looked at Wang Baomin gently.

“Sister, I can support myself. Even if I get married, I can support myself,” Wang Baomin quickly said.

If a grown man like me still needs my sister to subsidize him, is he even human?

"That's good. I already agreed to give my salary to Mom. I really can't help you with that." Wang Chunni breathed a sigh of relief. She could offer care if you needed it, but she didn't have the money if you really needed it.

Wang Baomin: "..."

"Sister, you don't need to pay attention to him. He earns more than twenty yuan a month, but he doesn't even pay for his food. He spends it all on that Xiaoxia. I've never seen anyone so stupid. I've never seen you buy anything for Mom or your brother." Wang Baoshan kept nagging from the side.

"Even eating can't shut you up?" Wang Baomin was no longer concerned with being sad or moved; all he wanted to do was beat Wang Baoshan up.

"Baoshan, eat properly, or you might choke if you get attacked later." Wang Chunni also felt that Wang Baoshan's words were a bit harsh.

“You two have always been close since you were little, and you're still close now, huh?” Wang Baoshan was genuinely jealous.

"What are you saying? We're all brothers and sisters." Wang Chunni couldn't help but laugh.

Wang Baoshan: "..." (Hehe)

That's just different; the eldest sister is always so good to the second brother.

"Sister, you should go inside and rest. What if the child wakes up and comes looking for you?" Wang Baomin urged Wang Chunni hurriedly.

They didn't take Wang Baoshan seriously at all. Wang Baoshan had been jealous since he was a child and always wanted to outdo others.

I used to compare everything with my older brother, but now I'm comparing myself to myself.

"So what if my older sister is nice to you? Mom still loves me the most. I'm Mom's favorite son," Wang Baoshan said proudly. "Mom is the most important person in the family."

"Then tell Mom that you want to be a kept man." Wang Baomin really didn't want to talk to Wang Baoshan; he was too childish.

Moreover, he himself was feeling unwell, and Wang Baomin really didn't know how to handle Li Caixia's problem.

I always felt that even if I married Li Caixia, it wouldn't be the warm, cozy life with my wife and kids that I imagined.

Children who are not favored from a young age tend to overthink things.

If her mother really doesn't give her a dowry, Xiaoxia will demand three gifts, five hundred yuan as a dowry, and a job.

I only earned 24.5 yuan a month as a temporary worker in the supply and marketing cooperative's fleet. How could I possibly save any money? My dad had to ask many people for help and spend another 500 yuan to find me this job.

He had only worked for less than half a year, and all his salary had been spent on Xiaoxia. How could he possibly save any money?

"You said you'd wash the dishes, I'm going back to my room to do my homework." Wang Baoshan wasn't going to pay any attention to Wang Baomin's little schemes. After finishing his meal, he threw down his bowl and went straight to his room.

Wang Baomin lost his appetite and finished what was in his bowl before tidying up and going back to his room to rest.

The next morning, Tao Ying opened her eyes again, full of resentment.

I resigned myself to getting up, tidied up the house a bit, and then went out to wash up.

A short while later, Wang Chunni also got up and went to the kitchen to cook.

Then Wang Baomin got up, picked up a broom, and started sweeping the yard.

Wang Chuntao went to the backyard to water the vegetable garden.

Tao Ying's home has a layout somewhat like a traditional courtyard house with two courtyards.

There are three main rooms, two side rooms, a rear building, a kitchen, and a storage room.

There's also a small vegetable garden in the backyard, though it's not very big.

The main house is currently occupied by Tao Ying, Wang Chunni, and Wang Chuntao, while the side rooms are occupied by Wang Baomin and Wang Baoshan, each having their own room.

The room that Wang Chuntao lived in was originally where Tao Ying's mother and Wang Chuntao lived, but after the old lady passed away, Wang Chuntao lived there by herself.

Originally, Aunt Tao intended to use Wang Chuntao's room as a wedding room for Wang Baomin when he got married, but now that Tao Ying has come, that's obviously impossible.

Tao Ying never intended to find a wife for Wang Baomin so early, especially after she had the memories of Old Mrs. Tao and knew that Li Caixia was not a good person. Wang Baomin was only twenty years old, so why was there such a rush?

"Mom..." Wang Baomin saw Tao Ying walking over somewhat reservedly.

After thinking about it all night, when Wang Baomin saw Tao Ying, he remembered the fish head his mother had specially saved for him the night before, and he felt very sad.

"Li Caixia agreed not to give a bride price and still started dating you?" Tao Ying still felt sorry for Wang Baomin.

Wang Baomin is neither as selfish as Wang Baojun nor as calculating as Wang Baoshan.

This child is honest and kind-hearted, and he has a strong sense of family, as you can see from his actions in picking up Chunni this time.

Tao Ying couldn't help but think of what people often say: the less valued a child is, the more filial they are; the more favored a child is, the more ungrateful they become.

In fact, you can see that from the old lady's children.

Wang Baojun is completely finished, Wang Chunni goes without saying, and now it seems that Wang Baomin might be able to turn things around.

"Mom..." Wang Baomin opened his mouth, feeling guilty.

“Baomin, it’s not that Mom is reluctant to let you get married, it’s just that Mom inquired about that girl Li Caixia, and she’s really not suitable for you. That girl is not… Would Mom harm you? You have a rather calm personality and are easily deceived.” Tao Ying looked at Wang Baomin with eyes full of affection.

He was reciting the words he had already prepared.

One monkey, one way to tie it up. For a child like Wang Baomin who is clearly lacking love, we have to be gentle.

“Mom, I don’t blame you. I can’t give Xiaoxia what she wants.” Wang Baomin made up his mind at that moment.

My fists are clenched tightly; I've made up my mind.

"Baomin, Mom wants to discuss something with you," Tao Ying said gently to Wang Baomin.

“Baomin, your father is gone. Although the factory said it would give you a job, your father was an eighth-level fitter. Even if your sister goes to work, she probably won’t get half of your father’s salary. Our whole family needs to eat. With just my and your sister’s salaries…” Tao Ying sighed.

“Mom, I know. I’ll give you all my salary from now on. It’s okay that Dad is gone, we still have me. I’ll work hard and try to get a permanent position as soon as possible. I will definitely support our family.” Wang Baomin looked up at Tao Ying with determination in his eyes.
