Chapter Sixteen: The Live-in Son-in-Law

"Is it ready? Let's eat when it's ready." Tao Ying hugged the two little ones, feeling a warm glow in her heart.

"Huh? Mom, aren't we waiting for Baomin?" Wang Chunni looked at Tao Ying in surprise.

Wang Baoshan returned late, so Wang Chunni had already served him his portion.

“He might not be in the mood to come back for dinner, let’s eat first.” Tao Ying didn’t mention Li Caixia’s unpleasant matter.

Wang Chunni is still in a sensitive period, and I'm afraid that if I tell her, she will overthink it.

"Then I'll serve it to Baomin; he loves fish heads," Wang Chunni said as she started cooking.

"Does Chun Tao like to eat fish heads?" Tao Ying asked Wang Chun Tao, who was standing to the side.

“I eat everything, but I especially like meat.” Wang Chuntao paused for a moment, then quickly replied.

Wang Chuntao felt a little nervous after she finished speaking.

“Just like your mother, I also like to eat meat,” Tao Ying said cheerfully.

“Yangyang eats meat too.” Tao Chenyang grinned foolishly.

Wang Chuntao hurriedly went to put the table down, and Tao Chenyang followed eagerly to help.

The staple food was cornbread, but Wang Chunni mixed in wheat flour and made it in the stewed fish pot, so it was especially delicious.

After Tao Ying left, Li Caixia and Wang Baomin started arguing.

"Wang Baomin, what does your mother mean? Didn't we agree that I would get a job before we got married? I married you, and I'm bringing this job back to your family. Your family isn't losing out either way." Li Caixia was very angry.

The family has already discussed it; the bride price will stay at home, and the job will be transferred to the younger brother.

Now that I'm unemployed, how am I going to explain this to my family?

“I gave the job to my older sister. It’s not easy for her to raise her child alone. I can support you,” Wang Baomin said softly, his head bowed.

"Give it to your eldest sister?! She's already married, what's she doing coming back, with a child in tow? How can you be so shameless? Is your family out of their minds? Giving a married daughter a job? Is your mother insane?" Li Caixia exploded.

“Caixia, you’re a woman too, how can you think like that?” Wang Baomin stared blankly at Li Caixia.

I really didn't expect Li Caixia to think that way. Every time Li Caixia went out with me, she would bring back things for her nephew and niece, and say how good her family was to her.

“What do I think? That’s my job, my job, if I lose my job, what will happen to my family? Everything is arranged for my family…” Li Caixia stopped abruptly and looked up at Wang Baomin in a panic.

"You said your family has already arranged the job? Does that mean this job is going to be reserved for your family?" Wang Baomin asked, staring at Li Caixia.

"Are you interrogating me? Wang Baomin, what's your attitude?" Li Caixia asked somewhat guiltily.

“My mom’s attitude is very clear: it’s impossible for me to work at your house. Xiaoxia, do you really like me?” Wang Baomin clenched his fists nervously.

“Now it’s a question of whether you like me or not. You have no job, no dowry, what do you have to say you like me? What do you have to offer to marry me?” Li Caixia looked at Wang Baomin angrily.

"I understand." Wang Baomin glanced at Li Caixia and left.

"Wang Baomin! Wang Baomin!" Li Caixia shouted loudly from behind.

Wang Baomin wandered around outside for a long time, not daring to go home, but having nowhere to go, he finally sat on a stone outside the gate.

"Second brother, did Mom beat you up?" Wang Baoshan asked gleefully when he came home from school, startled by Wang Baomin's reaction.

"Baoshan, Li Caixia wants to keep her job at her home," Wang Baomin whispered to Wang Baoshan.

"Is she dreaming?" Wang Baoshan stared wide-eyed at Wang Baomin.

"Don't tell me you told Mom? Did Wang Baojun kick your head?" Wang Baoshan looked at Wang Baomin in shock.

"No, Mom doesn't know. I only found out today. Mom ran into Xiaoxia and me today and said she doesn't like Caixia. She gave the job to my older sister and won't give her the job or a dowry. She wants me to become a live-in son-in-law." Wang Baomin was really upset. He didn't expect Baoshan to say the same thing.

"Isn't that perfect? You can go to the Li family and become their live-in son-in-law. You can give your job to your brother-in-law, and then you and your wife won't have to work anymore. You can just sit back and spend money every day," Wang Baoshan said sarcastically.

"Baoshan, are you dating anyone?" Wang Baomin couldn't help but ask, feeling a pang of unease at Wang Baoshan's words.

I thought Baoshan just hadn't figured it out yet. If he were in a relationship, he would definitely understand my feelings.

"What's the point of dating? That stuff is neither food nor drink, what's the use? It affects your studies, and if you accidentally taste forbidden fruit, you might end up with peanuts. Did you and Wang Baojun kick my head? Right now, I just want to study hard, get into university, and then have lots of girls chasing after me. I'll pick the one with the best qualities."

Wang Baoshan first rolled his eyes, then said what was on his mind.

"Are you trying to live off a woman?" Wang Baomin looked at Wang Baoshan in disbelief.

"So what? Can't I live off my wife based on my own abilities?" Wang Baoshan walked into the courtyard with his head held high and his head held high.

"Mom, Mom, Mom, your youngest son is back! Your precious youngest son is hungry!" Wang Baoshan shouted at the top of his lungs.

"Mom's asleep. I'll heat up the fish for you. Call your second brother in to eat with us too," Wang Chunni said softly to Wang Baoshan as she came out of the house.

"Sister, do you know that Second Brother is at the door?" Wang Baoshan stared at Wang Chunni with wide eyes.

“Your second brother has always been like this since he was little. When he encounters a problem, he gets stuck on it and hides at the door. The more you try to persuade him, the more stubborn he becomes. He'll figure it out on his own.” Although her mother didn’t say it, Wang Chunni could guess what it meant.

Aside from personal matters, what other major events could happen at home?

If it were just me, I might not be a burden on my family, but I still have Yangyang to worry about.

“He’s just out of his mind, let’s ignore him, sister,” Wang Baoshan said without lowering his voice.

"Sister!" Even a dead man like Wang Baomin would be brought back to life by the two of them. He couldn't sit still any longer and walked in with a pout.

"Talk to Mom properly tomorrow, don't keep everything bottled up inside," Wang Chunni said softly before going into the kitchen to heat up food for the two of them.

Not long after, he came out carrying half a basin of fish stew with tofu, some cornbread, and two boxes of steamed buns.

"Sister, did you save the fish head for me?" Wang Baomin looked at the fish head in the basin and then looked up at Wang Chunni.

“Mom left this for you. She’s our mom, of course she’d think of you.” Wang Chunni didn’t want there to be any rift between Wang Baomin and his mother.

Wang Baoshan secretly pursed his lips, then picked up his chopsticks and began to eat heartily.

Nobody would believe it was left by Mom. If it were, she wouldn't have stayed out all this time.

"Sister, I understand." Wang Baomin tried hard to hold back his tears, picked up his chopsticks, and began to eat the fish head in large bites.

Wang Baoshan “…”
