Chapter Thirty-Two: Flirting with the Mother-in-Law

Tao Ying is not intimidated by the job because she majored in Chemical Engineering and Technology and holds a master's degree.

He was about to be promoted to associate professor, but he died suddenly after working several all-nighters on his research project.

It feels like a huge loss, considering I just finished paying off my mortgage and bought a new car.

It's all tears when I talk about it.

There are many people in the laboratory, with four shift workers and three day shift workers.

Tao Ying had two samples tested in one morning and ate lunch in the cafeteria.

The food in the cafeteria isn't free, but it's much cheaper than outside without needing a ticket.

Vegetables cost five cents, half a meat dish cost one cent, and meat and vegetables cost two cents. Staple foods consisted of steamed buns made from a mixture of wheat and water, sorghum rice, and corn porridge.

Tao Ying ordered a braised green bean dish and a bowl of sorghum rice porridge, which cost a total of 15 cents.

"Aunt Tao, have some meat." Liu Jing came over with a lunchbox and picked up a piece of chicken from her own lunchbox for Tao Ying.

Liu Jing made Kung Pao Chicken, steamed buns made with a mixture of wheat and water, and corn porridge.

"Xiaojing, you eat by yourself. Do you want some green beans? My eldest daughter made me an egg pancake this morning, but I ate a lot, so I'm not very hungry." Tao Ying pushed the lunchbox towards Liu Jing.

"Sister Tao, didn't your eldest daughter get married?" Tian Fang asked, somewhat surprised.

"Don't even mention it. They were so unlucky. They messed around with other women, and the whole family got arrested by the police. Luckily, my husband appeared to me in a dream, otherwise my daughter and niece would be dead." Tao Ying sighed.

"This is outrageous! How did you manage to catch up with Aunt Tao?" Liu Jing said angrily.

"Sister Tao, your eldest daughter is back. Don't your eldest son and daughter-in-law have any objections?" Tian Fang asked with concern.

“Even if you have objections, you have to stand up for her. She’s his sister, and this is my home. He can choose not to come back to his own home, and I don’t expect anything from him. But his sister has no home anymore. Where can she go if she doesn’t come back?” Tao Ying didn’t go into details.

"Sister, did you break up with your son and daughter-in-law because of your daughter? Your husband is gone, what will you do when you get old?" Tian Fang couldn't help but worry.

Tian Fang is married and has three children: two sons and a daughter. The eldest is ten years old, the second is seven years old, and the youngest is her daughter, who is five years old this year.

My partner has two brothers, and I have two older brothers from my own family.

From a girl's perspective, she would naturally like to have a mother like that, but from a daughter-in-law's perspective, she would not want a mother-in-law like that.

"They can't even help his sister now, how can they expect them to treat me well in the future? Even if they do take care of me in my old age, they'll probably be cursing and scolding me. I'm not going to try to please them for the future. I have my own pension. If I really can't walk or crawl anymore in the future, that's my own fate, and I can't blame anyone else," Tao Ying explained nonchalantly.

“But…” Tian Fang opened her mouth, not knowing how to persuade her, after all, what Tao Ying said was very different from what Tian Fang knew.

"Sister, aren't you going to pass on your work to your family?" Tian Fang suddenly realized that if she did, she wouldn't be able to get her pension.

This is a new policy. Most people pass their jobs on to their families, since retirement pensions can only be received for a few years and the amount is less than what they earn while working. But if they pass the job on to their children, it will be a matter for generations to come.

“My family members all have jobs, and besides, there are so many self-employed people these days. Although it’s not a guaranteed job, we won’t starve. It’s still better to have a pension,” Tao Ying explained to the two of them.

"Your second daughter-in-law, isn't she unemployed?" Tian Fang was still quite shocked.

"Sigh, don't even mention it. That girl's family plans to give the job to her younger brother," Tao Ying sighed.

I don't know how they all manage to be so calculating.

"How can they be so shameless? Are they so desperate for a living?" Liu Jing couldn't help but widen her eyes.

“My second son had a fight with that girl,” Tao Ying said, smiling at Liu Jing.

"Aunt Tao, why didn't I have a mother like you? I feel guilty even eating a meal at home now," Liu Jing said dejectedly.

"Isn't your family treating you quite well?" Tian Fang looked at Liu Jing with incomprehension.

Throughout the entire factory, Tian Fang and Tao Ying had the best relationship. It had nothing to do with age; it was mainly because Tao Ying didn't gossip.

Tian Fang was not good with words and didn't like to say unnecessary things. Later, Liu Jing came, and the three of them got along quite well.

Liu Jing comes from a well-off family, and the girl is quite naive.

"Don't even mention it. My eldest and second sisters-in-law complain that I eat too much and am lazy. They've said more than once that I'm already so old, yet I don't do any work, I don't take care of my nephews and nieces, I don't hand over my salary, and I don't buy anything for the kids. They say I should find a husband." Liu Jing took a big bite of her steamed bun.

"Does your family lack your salary of twenty-something?" Tao Ying didn't understand.

Being a section chief at an oil refinery isn't just about having a high salary.

"They just find me an eyesore and want to marry me off as soon as possible, but those people are all picky about me. They either complain that I can't do housework or that I'm too fat. I don't want to get married so early. I'm already being looked down upon at home. If I get married, will I even have a chance to survive? I'm even thinking of moving to the factory now." Liu Jing sighed.

“The factory environment isn’t good either. Ten people share a dormitory, making it inconvenient to do anything.” Tian Fang didn’t think Liu Jing’s personality was suitable for living in the dormitory.

"What did your mother say?" Tao Ying asked softly.

“My mom is also trying to find me a blind date. My eldest brother has three children, and my second brother has two children, and they all live with us. My mom is very irritable every day,” Liu Jing sighed.

"It depends on what you think. You must choose carefully when you get married. You must choose someone from a good family, someone who is a good person, and definitely not someone who is a pushover," Tao Ying sincerely advised.

"Aunt Tao, what do you think of me? How about I go on a blind date with your second son? I've got my eye on you." Liu Jing hesitated for a moment, then looked at Tao Ying expectantly.

"So you gave me a piece of chicken just to try and take advantage of my son?" Tao Ying was stunned.

"Sure, Xiaojing." Tian Fang didn't even bother to eat anymore.

"No, I only had this idea after hearing you mention it just now," Liu Jing said, a little embarrassed.

"But neither of you knows how to cook. Are you sure you won't fight when you become mother-in-law and daughter-in-law?" Tian Fang joked with a smile.

“Isn’t there Aunt Tao’s eldest daughter? Even if no one cooks, Aunt Tao and I can still eat out together.” Liu Jing thought about it and felt it made more and more sense.

Tao Ying “…”

“My second son hasn’t completely broken up with his girlfriend yet. I’m afraid that girl won’t let go so easily. My second son is rather introverted and is just a temporary worker in the supply and marketing cooperative’s motorcade. My third son is a high school sophomore this year, my youngest daughter is in sixth grade, and my eldest daughter brought a child home. Your parents might not agree. If you really want to meet her, you should make things clear with your parents and wait for my second son to completely clear things up with that girl.”

Tao Ying earnestly told Liu Jing that it was better to clarify these matters.

But this little girl is really bold.

"So you two are serious?" Tian Fang had thought they were joking.

However, Tao Jie's family's financial situation is really not a good match for Liu Jing's family.
