Chapter 53

She closed her eyes, waiting in despair for the torture that awaited her.

Suddenly, his wicked face appeared before me, as always, unserious.

I wonder where he is now, and if he's acting like a fool, running out of the city to buy her hot porridge and carefully escorting her there.

In the final moments of her life, she thought sadly that it was still him who appeared before her.

There was only him, no one else.

If I gave her another chance...

Tears slowly slid down her cheeks.

If she had another chance, she would definitely tell him without hesitation...

She didn't want to leave him at first, and in the three hundred days since they parted, he appeared in her dreams almost every day...

If I gave her another chance...

The torture she had been waiting for did not come as expected. She opened her eyes and saw the dagger slowly sliding to the ground in front of her.

Chen Bailing stared palely at the doorway. Following her gaze, she saw a man standing there, his face gloomy. He was carrying a bag of freshly bought porridge and leaning against the door, panting heavily.

"Ah Sheng, I..." Before Chen Bailing could utter a single syllable, she was kicked to the ground by the man who strode over.

"Ah!" Chen Bailing screamed.

Curled up on the ground, clutching her stomach, she watched in despair as the man she loved picked up the girl from the ground as if she were a precious treasure, his eyes completely oblivious to her, and gently placed her beside the bed.

Chen Bailing's madness intensified. She stared intently at the two people in front of her, her palms clenched until they bled. She instantly stood up, picked up a dagger that had fallen to the side, and rushed forward.

Xu Xinchen was gently placed on the bed by Chen Ningsheng, who covered her with the blanket. Just as she was about to speak, a flash of light appeared in her peripheral vision and instantly passed before her eyes.

not good!

Her pupils dilated as she watched Chen Bailing rush towards her. Chen Ningsheng paused, then, as if sensing something, moved to stand directly in front of her, completely blocking her view.

With a hissing sound.

The sound of a dagger piercing flesh reached her ears. Her eyes widened as she stared at Chen Ningsheng's face. His expression remained unchanged, his eyebrows still relaxed. He smiled, pinched her chin, and lightly touched her lips, then pulled away.

He opened his mouth, about to say something, but his body fell down uncontrollably.

Chen Bailing's terrified face was revealed behind him.

Xu Xinchen sat on the bed, her mouth agape as she saw Chen Ningsheng lying on the ground with a dagger stuck in his back.

The dagger was stuck in his waist, blooming into a bewitching flower; his clothes around the dagger were soaked with blood.

"Ah Sheng." Chen Bailing rushed forward and knelt down beside him, cupping his face in her hands.

Xu Xinchen's lips trembled.

Inside the hospital operating room, the red light outside the door stung her eyes.

Chen Bailing had already been taken away by the police. After she sent Chen Ningsheng into the operating room, she immediately called the police.

When the police took her away, she cooperated obediently without struggling at all, only glancing back at the operating room as she left.

Xu Xinchen was extremely anxious, feeling as if she were being tormented in a frying pan.

Her lips trembled, she closed her eyes, clasped her hands together, and prayed silently.

If she could have another chance, she would never treat him so badly; she would do everything in her power to love him for the rest of her life.

The red light in front of the operating room turned green.

She immediately stood up and watched as the door was slowly pushed open, and several medical staff pushed the operating table out.

On the bed, Chen Ningsheng's face was still pale, and his lips were bloodless.

"Doctor!" she rushed to the bedside and asked anxiously, "How is he?"

The attending physician stopped, his gaze lingering on her face, and he sighed softly.

Xu Xinchen's heart sank.

"What exactly happened?"

She looked anxious.

"The surgery was relatively successful so far, and most of the wounds have been stitched up. However, because the scalpel was inserted so deeply, whether he can recover depends on his individual constitution..."

"What does this mean?" Xu Xinchen asked cautiously, her voice trembling slightly. "Is it possible he won't wake up?"

The doctor looked at her sympathetically, sighed deeply, and his eyes were filled with helplessness. "It's a fifty percent chance, but don't be too pessimistic..."

Xu Xinchen's mood was not so heavy anymore.

There was still a fifty percent chance, she stared intently at him.

He will wake up.

Chen Ningsheng has been transferred to a special care ward, and Xu Xinchen has added an extra bed to his room to take care of his daily needs.

I insisted on wiping his body three times a day, watching his hair grow long, and even gave him a novel haircut myself.

I burst out laughing when I saw his hairstyle after the haircut. If he saw it, he would definitely frown and complain.

Thinking of this, his smile faded again. He lay on the bed with his eyes tightly closed. A month had passed since the day of his surgery, and he showed no signs of waking up.

Chen Ningsheng's father, Chen Bohui, came once during the journey. He was shocked to see his son's sickly appearance. His once vigorous body seemed to have aged suddenly.

He wanted to bring Chen Ningsheng home and hire the best doctors for him.

Xu Xinchen insisted on keeping him here.

Perhaps it was her determined gaze that told him she would definitely wake him up. Chen Bohui looked at her for a long time, then left without further objection.

But an unexpected guest arrived today.

After Xu Xinchen finished wiping him down, she turned around and saw Gu Yan's tall figure standing at the door, silently watching for an unknown amount of time.

She turned her head without a care, dressed him, covered him with the blanket, and then left the room.

The two walked side by side down the empty hospital corridor.

She took a long leave from the company, and Gu Yan agreed without asking any questions. She was still grateful to him.

The hospital corridor was deserted, with only the sound of their footsteps echoing in the background.

Gu Yan unconsciously turned his head to look at her. She looked thinner, but her spirits were high, and her face was rosy with a pinkish hue.

"Thank you." She suddenly stopped and said thank you.

Gu Yan knew why she was thanking him, and smiled indifferently, "It's nothing. You can come back anytime you want. The company will always be waiting for you."

She remained silent.

How is he doing?

"It's still the same as before, not much has changed."

She said calmly.

"So you're planning to stay here with him the whole time?" He stopped and looked at her.

"Okay, I'll go to work once he's better."

Her expression was calm, but there was an inexplicable certainty in her eyes.

Gu Yan was puzzled. "You really believe he'll wake up?"

Upon hearing this, Xu Xinchen raised an eyebrow slightly and looked at him with a determined gaze, "He will definitely wake up."

He felt a slight discomfort, as if pricked by needles.

But he didn't refute it again.

Continuing forward, Xu Xinchen caught up and heard him ask, "If I were the one staying in the hospital room, would you also..."

Is this how you treat me?

Her heart skipped a beat, and she unconsciously looked at him. He stared blankly out the window, lost in thought.
