A long silence.
A bitter smile appeared on Gu Yan's lips.
Needless to say, he already knew the answer.
"You finally gave me the answer."
He looked out the window; the branches were already withered and yellow, winter was coming soon, no wonder he could already feel the cold.
"I'm sorry," she said apologetically.
He looked down at her, his icy expression instantly crumbling into a mischievous smile. He teased, "What are you apologizing for? I have a whole forest out there. How could I possibly give up on a little tree like you?"
Xu Xinchen was stunned for a moment, then smiled gently when she came to her senses.
Yes, how could a man like Gu Yan be devoted to only her?
If he wants a woman, why should he be afraid of not getting her?
Her heavy heart eased a little, and she instantly felt lighter.
After saying goodbye to Gu Yan and leaving some time ago, she was anxious to go back and check on him.
Gu Yan stood there, gazing wistfully at her receding figure.
After a while, he took a cigarette out of his pocket.
A bluish-white mist slowly rose, enveloping his vision.
He squinted at the figure that slowly approached and became almost invisible, a slight smile playing on his lips.
"Lu Minshi, you forced me to do this."
He spoke slowly, his gaze as unfathomable as the sea.
Upon hearing the commotion of footsteps in the room as soon as Xu Xinchen entered the hospital, she was startled and rushed over as if she had just remembered something.
In the ward, the doctors and nurses were busy and no one had time to pay attention to her.
She grabbed a nurse and asked urgently, "What happened to him?"
The nurse rushed out, leaving behind the comment, "His breathing is abnormal."
Then they went out.
Xu Xinchen was frozen in place as if struck by lightning, unable to move any further.
Her lips were deathly pale as she watched the doctors surround him, pressing hard on his chest as if they were pressing on her own body.
She couldn't bear to look anymore and rushed out the door.
After squatting on the ground for a while, she finally recovered.
She mentally rehearsed all the possible scenarios, and her face turned deathly pale.
Inside the door, the noise subsided somewhat, but Xu Xinchen remained crouched in place, not daring to take a single step inside.
She stared blankly at the door in front of her, as if it weighed a ton.
Until the door was slowly pushed open, and people filed out.
The first attending physician to come out was taken aback when he saw her squatting on the ground. "What are you doing squatting here?"
"Doctor," she stood up as if seeing a lifeline, her lips pale, and asked, "How is he? Is his life in danger?"
The doctor looked at her, his eyes revealing no emotion. After a moment of silence, he said in a deep voice, "Go in and have a look."
He patted her on the shoulder to comfort her and then left.
The pat on her shoulder wasn't very forceful, but she seemed unable to bear it any longer and almost fell to the ground.
She walked to the door in a daze.
Unable to see anything inside, her feet seemed glued to the ground. She stood in front of the door for a long time before slowly pushing it open.
With a creak.
The pale-faced person lying on the bed looked over instantly, and their eyes met.
Xu Xinchen froze on the spot, not daring to take a step forward.
She feared it was all just a dream, and that when she woke up, he would still be staring at her with his eyes closed.
She dared not disturb her beautiful dream.
Lying on the bed, Chen Ningsheng stared at her with his dark eyes for a long time, his gaze softening before he spoke in a hoarse voice, "What are you doing standing there?"
The tears that had been welling up in Xu Xinchen's eyes rolled down instantly.
She finally realized that this was not a dream; he had really woken up.
