Chapter 209 I Have No Son

Chapter 209 I Have No Son

"Old boss, why don't we just go upstairs? This is..."

Zheng Huaixin went downstairs and greeted the old leader of the investment promotion office with a smile. Yao Dasao looked at his smiling face and was very curious about how he would handle the situation that was about to happen.

The old leader glanced at him, stepped aside, and asked, "Secretary Zheng, do you know this woman and this child?"

"This is……"

Zheng Huaixin looked over and frowned slightly when he saw the woman. When he saw the boy beside her, his eyes widened in disbelief. "This child looks so much like me. The world is full of wonders. It's really amazing."

"You don't recognize them?" the old leader frowned.

Zheng Huaixin smiled and said, "Old leader, I really don't know them. The security guard just told me that a woman came to see me with a child, saying that she was my wife and child. I saw them upstairs, and they are fake. They should be sent by my political enemies to deal with me. I have been performing too well lately, and our leader intends to send me to a town below to be the second-in-command and train me well. Before we even start, some people have already come up with the smell of blood and are making a fool of themselves in front of the old leader."

As he spoke, he beckoned the gatekeeper over, saying, "Please ask him to leave, so as not to disturb the old leader's business."

Sister-in-law Yao chuckled to herself.

Zheng Huaixin can lie without batting an eye.

"Zheng Huaixin, we have a marriage certificate..." the woman said at the right moment, staring at Zheng Huaixin in disbelief.

Zheng Huaixin glanced at her and smiled, "I don't know what you're talking about."

Although he was smiling, there was no smile in his eyes, only a chilling coldness.

The woman took a step back.

The old leader frowned and asked, "Xiao Zheng, did you get married when you went to the countryside? Did you marry this woman when you went to the countryside?"

No, there isn't.

Zheng Huaixin still refused to admit it. He looked at the woman and asked her, "I don't know you at all. Why are you making up such a lie to ruin my career? What good will it do you to ruin me?"

The woman was so frightened that she kept backing away.

She said, "I didn't plan to come to you, but it's just me and the child at home. I'm not able to support myself, let alone the child. We have no choice but to come to you. You are my husband and the father of my child..."

The top leader came down and happened to hear this sentence. He frowned and called out to Zheng Huaixin.

"Secretary Zheng?"

Zheng Huaixin's head skipped a beat. Seeing the scrutinizing gaze of the top leader, he panicked for a moment, but quickly composed himself, smiling helplessly, "Sir, that's not true. When I went to the countryside..."

Suddenly, Sister-in-law Yao spoke up, interrupting him with a smile and reminding him.

"Secretary Zheng, you should be more careful with your words. These things can be found out with a little investigation if you are willing to put your mind to it."

"What exactly happened, Xiao Zheng?" the top leader asked Zheng Huaixin.

Zheng Huaixin felt like he was being put on a hot seat, and couldn't help but glance at Sister-in-law Yao a few more times.

He turned to the top leader with a smile, still saying, "This boy is indeed not my son. I... I did have a marriage when I was sent to the countryside, but I made it clear to the other party before I left that we would have no further connection in our marriages..."

"Does Secretary Zheng mean you only have a marriage but no son?" Sister-in-law Yao asked.

Zheng Huaixin glanced at him and said decisively, "No."

The two senior leaders from the investment promotion office exchanged a glance, and their gazes toward Zheng Huaixin instantly turned sour.

The top leader nodded and said, "It's good that it's been explained. There's probably some misunderstanding. I'll have someone from the investigation department come down and take the mother and child to find out what happened."

Just as Zheng Huaixin was about to breathe a sigh of relief, he caught a glimpse of Yao Dasao's strange smile out of the corner of his eye. Just as he was wondering what was going on, he heard the sighs of the two old leaders from the investment promotion office.

For no apparent reason, his heart stirred again, and he looked over.

"Lady, take out the photos you just showed us and show them to them."

The top leader took the photo, his brows furrowing instantly. He glanced coldly at Zheng Huaixin and tossed the photo back to him.

Seeing his superior's anger, Zheng Huaixin was wondering what was going on when he was suddenly struck by the photo thrown at him. His pupils constricted sharply. "This...this..."

He abruptly looked up, staring intently at the woman, and demanded, "How did you get this?!"

"You forgot..."

The woman looked at him and said, "This was taken before you left. My father was afraid you would never come back. You held up the photo and said, 'Your woman and your child are here. Even if you don't stay, you will find a chance to take us away.' You've been gone for more than ten years. My father is gone, my mother is gone, and all that's left at home is me and my child. Zheng Huaixin, you're lying."

Zheng Huaixin's forehead throbbed as he stared intently at the woman.

He asked, "Who are you? I don't know you! You're going to get me killed, don't you know that?! Can you please stop talking nonsense..."

The woman looked frightened and backed away repeatedly.

She cried and said, "I didn't mean to hurt you. I just wanted to send the child to you. I can't afford to raise him anymore. You can give him better conditions in Beijing. He needs to go to school and see a doctor. Brother Xin, it's okay if you don't want me, but how can you not even want your own child? Where is your conscience?"

“He’s not my child at all. I don’t have a son. I only have a daughter. My daughter died of smallpox in the third year after I returned to the city. Why should I acknowledge a child of unknown origin?!”

After Zheng Huaixin finished speaking, he suddenly realized what he had said, and his expression changed.

But that's clearly not what everyone's focus is on right now.

The top leader glanced at the child, then at Zheng Huaixin, his eyes filled with disbelief.

Zheng Huaixin opened his mouth, wanting to say something, but felt that nothing he said would be enough to gain the trust of the top leader.

He felt like he was going crazy. What was going on with this child who suddenly appeared and looked so much like him?!

“Zheng Huaixin! When you were sent to the countryside, you were skin and bones. If I hadn’t often brought you food from home, you wouldn’t have survived to take the exam. While the other educated youth were working in the fields, you were idle at my house and could study. In the dead of winter, the other educated youth’s hands and feet would get sores from the cold, swelling and oozing pus. My father would go up the mountain to cut down trees for you so that your house would be warm and cozy. Our family suffered so much so that you could focus on your exam. How can you turn your back on us?!”

The woman's voice was shrill, as if she hated his ingratitude.

Zheng Huaixin's head was buzzing. He quickly scanned the area and spotted his colleagues lurking nearby, watching the spectacle. He took a slow, long breath to calm himself down.

He glanced at the woman, his eyes cold and sharp, a ruthless glint flashing across them, but his voice remained steady.

He calmly explained to the group of people, "The person who harmed me is trying to ruin my reputation. Please don't believe her. Leave this to me, and I will give you all a satisfactory answer soon."

After saying that, he was about to tell the woman and child to go with him.
