Chapter 153 Challenge

Staying here would only make us all look bad. Grandma Hanhan kept swearing and cursing, and the cursing got worse and worse. After Qin Xiaoyu left, she was too exhausted to continue.

Qin Xiaoyu was stubborn and didn't want to leave, but thinking of Hanhan and Xiaomei downstairs, and feeling sorry for them, she had no choice but to leave the office. This retreat was the most humiliating moment for her.

She originally thought the Tang family were family and did everything she could for them. Unexpectedly, now that she's in trouble, they're the first to turn against her.

Qin Xiaoyu was in a daze and dared not drive. She just walked slowly along the street, not knowing where she was going.

"Principal Qin, where are you going? I can give you a ride." A white sedan stopped beside her, the window rolled down, revealing Bai Weiwei's sweet face.

"You really have a lot of free time." Qin Xiaoyu tilted her head back and took a deep breath.

“That’s right. Originally, I thought I was perfect enough, but after meeting you, I realized that I still have room for improvement, which is a good thing. Look, I learned to drive pretty quickly too.” Bai Weiwei exaggeratedly patted the steering wheel and said, “It’s just that my car is my own, and your car was a gift from a man. That’s the difference.”

"Is what you have your own? Did you earn the money to buy it? Didn't you rely on your parents? Don't talk so high and mighty, you're not that great. If you were born into a poor family, you wouldn't even have the ability to turn your life around, bullshit!" Qin Xiaoyu's IQ slowly returned.

"So what? My car is innocent, yours is dirty."

"Mine is the same. It's not as complicated as you think. It's just that your heart makes you think everyone else is dirty." Qin Xiaoyu smiled coldly.

"Principal Qin, don't think too highly of yourself. You're just a widow with two children to support. Men only take a liking to you because of your looks and your charm. Put all that aside, don't you know what kind of person you are?" Bai Weiwei said with a grin.

"Don't lower yourself. If I were really that worthless, would I be worth Miss Bai going to such lengths to fight me? I'm not a bone, and you're not a dog. Stop targeting me. You won't gain anything by fighting me."

"Then let's give it a try. I've heard that some people have found a new lease on life after a period of hardship. I'll be waiting to see your second spring." Bai Weiwei stepped on the gas and sped away.

"Little fish, little fish!" Captain Chen chased after them on his bicycle, his brow beaded with sweat.

"Brother Chen, what's wrong?" Qin Xiaoyu felt a sense of foreboding.

“I went to the school to look for you, and they said you came out, so I followed the road. Get in the car quickly, I'll take you to see. The landlord won't let us work anymore.”

Qin Xiaoyu had never been a fan of bicycles, but now she didn't care anymore and jumped onto the back of Captain Chen's bicycle. The ride was so bumpy that her butt felt like it was going to split in two, but finally she saw the new school building.

"Principal Qin, I'm so sorry, this house can't be rented anymore." The person who wanted to rent the house was the factory manager of a sock factory. After the factory moved, the house had been vacant. It was Qin Xiaoyu who went there to find the house, which led to the rental issue.

Originally, it was supposed to be a win-win situation, but then a document was suddenly issued from above stating that if the house was rented out, it would be considered that the factory manager was engaging in malpractice.

He was a timid person who always sought to avoid mistakes rather than achieve anything, so he dared not rent out any more houses.

"Hehe, we have a contract. It's really difficult for me to terminate it unilaterally like this." Qin Xiaoyu wanted to grasp at the last straw. This wasn't military supplies, so surely a contract could at least provide some form of restraint.

"Principal Qin, let's talk in private." The factory manager glanced at Captain Chen, understood, and went outside to smoke with the workers, leaving only the two of them in the room.

"Principal Qin, please save me! I have elderly parents and young children to support. My mother is over eighty years old, and I have five children, the youngest of whom is only three years old!" The factory director immediately shrank back, having knelt down.

"What do you mean?" Qin Xiaoyu was a little confused.

"I have some problems with my accounts. They've come to me. If I don't take the house back, I'm afraid I'll spend the rest of my life in prison. Principal Qin, please save me!" The factory manager cried miserably, and Qin Xiaoyu's heart sank.

She's not a heartless person, much less someone who sacrifices others' interests for her own. This situation seems truly difficult. The new school can't be moved, and the old school is about to be emptied—are they really pushing her to the brink?

Bai Weiwei is ruthless; these are tricks that Zhou Xing's mother, who is high and mighty, could not have come up with.

"This is a bit of a rip-off. I've already finished half of the renovation and invested so much money..." Qin Xiaoyu looked around and there wasn't even a place to sit, but her legs were so weak that she could barely stand.

"I'll refund your rent and even give you some extra money. I'm telling you this privately, but don't tell anyone. The higher-ups won't even let me refund the rent; they want me to pay it to the government. I'm just taking some money from my own pocket because I see how pitiful you are. Consider it a favor to you, and I'll do the same to you." The factory manager had really gone too far, and Qin Xiaoyu knew he couldn't make the decision, so there was no point in arguing further. She could only nod.

The contract was returned, and all that was taken back was the rent and a token compensation of one thousand yuan from the factory manager.

The factory manager, clutching the contract, hurried away, seemingly afraid that Qin Xiaoyu would regret her actions. Qin Xiaoyu stood by the window for a while, letting the wind blow over her, finally catching her breath. She'd deal with whatever came her way, one hurdle at a time, and get this matter settled first.

"Brother Chen, thank you all for your hard work this time. This 1,000 yuan is to settle your remaining wages." Qin Xiaoyu called over Captain Chen.

She overheard bits and pieces of what the workers were saying outside; they were all cursing and complaining about their bad luck, fearing a sudden work stoppage and not getting paid. Captain Chen gave them a dressing down, and things calmed down.

"No way! The job isn't finished yet, how can you ask for so much money? No way!" Captain Chen refused decisively.

"Although the work wasn't finished, it wasn't your fault. It also delayed your next job, so consider this compensation." Qin Xiaoyu smiled and forced the money into Captain Chen's hand.

"Sigh! Girl, we're all grown men, and we're not as good as you, a woman!" Captain Chen said, stamping his foot. The workers all lowered their heads in shame.

"Brother Chen, don't say that. Everyone has their ups and downs. Right now, I, Qin Xiaoyu, am down on my luck, and this is all I can do. When I make a comeback, you brothers can help me rebuild my house, okay?"

"Good! Girl, because of what you said, you'll definitely get back up. We're all rooting for you!" the workers shouted in unison.

Qin Xiaoyu wanted to take a car back to the hairdressing school, but Captain Chen was worried and insisted on taking her away by bicycle.

"Brother Chen, really, it's not necessary." Qin Xiaoyu wasn't just being polite; she was genuinely scared, her butt couldn't take it.

"Get in." Captain Chen patted the back seat of the vehicle. One of the workers, being observant, tore off a piece of foam and tied it to the back seat with string. Qin Xiaoyu had no choice but to jump in, and to be honest, it was much more comfortable.

On the way back to the city, Qin Xiaoyu remained silent, needing to think things through. It seemed that Zhou Xing's mother and Bai Weiwei were determined to destroy her completely, cutting off all her escape routes.

The first thing she did when she got back to school was to drive Qi Si's car out.
