As Qin Xiaoyu entered the house, Zhou Xing's mother came to greet her.
"I've been listening to your car. Are you hungry? By the way, is that disease contagious? Wash your hands properly." Zhou Xing's mother chattered on and on like an old woman.
"Mom, did you not sleep well last night? I called to say I wasn't coming back, but you're still waiting for me?" Qin Xiaoyu felt so sorry for her.
"Wash your hands and disinfect them properly. I heard that the virus can be transmitted to children." Zhou Xing's mother was worried about her two precious children.
"Where are Hanhan and the others?" Qin Xiaoyu then realized that the house was too quiet. It was Sunday, and everyone was on holiday.
“Your father took them out to play, and he brought the two children from the Deng family along too,” Zhou Xing’s mother said with a smile.
"Is this to avoid infection? Let's go out and avoid it." Qin Xiaoyu pouted. Whenever there was any disturbance, Commander Zhou was even more sensitive than Zhou Xing's mother and immediately took Hanhan away.
"It's good that you know. Go change your clothes too." Zhou Xing's mother instructed with some concern, "Put the clothes in the bag after you change, I'll take them to wash. Wash your hands again!"
Qin Xiaoyu was both amused and exasperated. To put her mind at ease, she could only take a shower and change her clothes.
The food was all laid out, all her favorite dishes. She was also very hungry, so she sat down and wolfed it down.
"Slow down, no one's going to take it from you," Zhou Xing's mother said with a smile, her eyes fixed on Qin Xiaoyu as if she couldn't get enough of looking at her.
Where did they go?
"Xiao Chen drove us to the riverbank to fish," Zhou Xing's mother said, walking to the window. In the distance, thick clouds seemed to be rolling, as if a heavy rain was about to fall.
"I think it's going to rain. I'll drive to pick you up after we eat," Qin Xiaoyu said, also feeling uneasy.
“Okay, go ahead.” Zhou Xing’s mother nodded.
The phone suddenly rang, and Qin Xiaoyu rushed to answer it. At this time of day, most of the people calling were looking for her.
"Sister-in-law, I called last night and they said you were at the hospital and hadn't come home. What happened?" Tang Wenwen asked anxiously.
“She called yesterday, and I said I let it slip,” Zhou Xing’s mother said timidly after hearing this. Qin Xiaoyu made a gesture to reassure her.
"Wenwen, it's nothing serious. The two children had pityriasis rosea, but their condition has stabilized. Brother Deng is at the hospital taking care of them. Aren't you worried?" Qin Xiaoyu's tone was relaxed. She understood Tang Wenwen's feelings. As a mother herself, she could only try her best to relieve her stress.
There was no response on the other end of the phone, but then there seemed to be suppressed sobbing sounds, before the call ended with a click.
Qin Xiaoyu and Zhou Xing's mother looked at each other and sighed, both feeling helpless.
In just a short while, when she looked out the window again, dark clouds had covered half the sky. Qin Xiaoyu was getting a little anxious and grabbed her car keys to head out.
"Drive slowly, they have a car, nothing will happen," Zhou Xing's mother chased after them and instructed.
The phone suddenly rang again, and Qin Xiaoyu's heart skipped a beat, a sense of unease creeping over her.
She walked quickly over and answered the phone.
"Little Fish, hurry back to the hospital, I have an urgent matter to attend to at the farm," Deng Jianyan said urgently.
"Okay, Brother Deng, what happened at the farm?" Qin Xiaoyu still didn't get an answer; Deng Jianyan had already hung up the phone.
When Qin Xiaoyu arrived at the ward, Deng Jianyan had already left. Fourth Sister-in-law, Fourth Sister-in-law's mother, and two nurses were sitting together, heads close, talking to each other.
"Something's happened! Dr. Deng's wife was in a car accident!" Fourth Sister-in-law rushed over as soon as Qin Xiaoyu entered the door.
"Car accident, is it serious?" Qin Xiaoyu's legs went weak.
"I don't know, I just told him to hurry back and handle the funeral arrangements. Oh my god! Funeral arrangements? What am I saying?" Fourth Sister-in-law suddenly realized what she was saying, her eyes darting around in fright. She looked at Fourth Sister-in-law and then at the nurse.
The nurse was so startled that she scurried out of the ward. Silence fell over the room, broken only by the occasional babbling from the two children.
A flash of lightning illuminated the ward, followed by a thunderclap and then large raindrops pounding against the window.
Fourth Sister-in-law ran to close the window.
Qin Xiaoyu sat blankly in the chair, her heart sinking. Another familiar person had passed away in such a short time; she couldn't bear it.
She suddenly remembered that Commander Zhou and his four children had not returned yet, two of whom had lost their mother. How could she possibly recover from this blow?
The child's condition has stabilized, and Xiao Si's wife, her mother, and two nannies are perfectly capable of handling it. Zhou Xiaoyu gave a long series of instructions before finally leaving the house.
When she drove back to the Zhou family home, it was pouring rain. Commander Zhou's car was parked outside, and she felt relieved.
"There was almost an accident today." Commander Zhou rushed to greet Qin Xiaoyu, his eyes filled with tears as if he had finally seen a relative.
"Big Brother, what's wrong?" Qin Xiaoyu panicked when she heard him say that. She looked into the living room and saw Lisheng and Xiaojin sitting properly on the sofa, but her younger sister and Hanhan were not there.
“My little sister fell into the river, and it was Xiao Jin who rescued her.” Commander Zhou sniffed and sighed, “People get old and can’t withstand the slightest trouble. You take care of them, I’m going upstairs to get some sleep.”
"Sir, you should take a hot shower too. Don't catch a cold from the river breeze." Qin Xiaoyu helped Commander Zhou upstairs.
In the past, anyone who dared to help him would be asking for trouble. But this time, almost all of his weight was on Qin Xiaoyu's arm, and his legs were very weak.
Qin Xiaoyu came downstairs and saw that Xiao Jin and Li Sheng were still motionless. Both children's clothes were wet, especially Xiao Jin's clothes.
Zhou Xing's mother was also biased. She noticed her own child had a problem first and rushed to deal with it, not realizing there were two others.
"Come on, come upstairs with Auntie to change your clothes." Qin Xiaoyu reached out her hand, and Lisheng pulled her to her feet. Xiao Jin didn't move.
"I want to go home," Xiao Jin said coldly.
"No one's home, and there's no hot water. Come upstairs with me and take a shower." Qin Xiaoyu's heart skipped a beat when she heard her mention home, and she quickly replied.
Xiao Jin hesitated for a moment, then stood up, didn't take her hand, and rushed towards the stairs.
Qin Xiaoyu prepared the bathrooms for her and Zhou Yue, and let the two children go in to shower. Lisheng was taller than Hanhan, but fortunately, Hanhan had more clothes than she could wear in a year, and many people didn't know to buy a size too big, so finding a set of clothes was easy.
Xiao Jin is now over 1.4 meters tall. Qin Xiaoyu found a shirt and a pair of overalls in her wardrobe.
Both children had finished washing and changing their clothes and came downstairs. Qin Xiaoyu had already prepared brown sugar ginger water.
"Drink slowly, it's hot." She carried a cup upstairs.
"I'm exhausted! That old man, all he does is cause me trouble!" Zhou Xing's mother brought Hanhan and her younger sister down with her, and they changed into dry clothes and washed themselves clean.
"Mom, go and get them some brown sugar ginger water. Don't even mention my dad, he's scared too." Qin Xiaoyu said the last two sentences in a low voice.
