"Jing Tian? What happened to him?"
"His visa has been confiscated, and he can't leave. Now he has two courses to complete, and he won't get his diploma. He's been studying for nothing." Director Feng was genuinely distressed, both by the money and the financial burden.
"What does this have to do with us? I didn't do it." Qin Xiaoyu said, then felt guilty. She looked back and saw that A Lei was not there.
"Qin Xiaoyu, there's no point in saying that. You know best whether you did it or not!" Director Feng was getting impatient when Qin Xiaoyu denied it.
"I did it. Qin Xiaoyu had no idea. I just want you to know that some people are not to be trifled with," came A Lei's voice.
Everyone turned around and saw him slowly descending from the second floor, a large black cat perched on his shoulder. His face still held a carefree attitude, but there was an indescribable coldness in his eyes, completely different from the cat-loving, immature teenager he usually was.
For some reason, the cake was very alert. When it got close to Director Feng, it suddenly hissed and its hair stood on end.
Director Feng screamed in fright and darted to the side. No one was standing next to her; she was all alone.
"You did it! Good! Then help me get Jing Tian out of here. How much do you want? Just say the price!" Director Feng's tone had completely changed.
"If you had stolen the child that day, and we had gone to your house, knelt down and begged you, would you have given the child back? Or could you have bought him back with money?" Qin Xiaoyu smiled sarcastically.
"Talking about that is useless. Name your terms and let Jing Tian go abroad as soon as possible!" Director Feng was now powerless, suffering unprecedented humiliation, and was completely distraught.
“He’s staying to pay off his debts, and to teach you a lesson. If you have any problems, come at me.” A Lei took the cake down, put it in his arms, and gently stroked its fur.
"What debt does he owe! It's my fault. I asked him to come and take the child. It has nothing to do with him! Besides, that child is our flesh and blood. It's not unreasonable for us to want the child back, is it?"
"You're trying to wipe us all out, bringing the police along. You think that's not going too far?"
"That was an accident. I originally just thought that if Qi Si was going to make a move, the police would be there to keep him in check. Who would have thought he would have a gun..." Recalling what happened that day, Director Feng was still shaken. He glanced in Qi Si's direction and timidly lowered his head.
"Stop talking nonsense. Nobody here can control me. I just don't like seeing people touch my family, that's all. You can leave now. If Jing Tian does well, maybe he can get out in the future, otherwise forget about it for the rest of his life." After saying that, A Lei turned around and went upstairs.
Director Feng knew that further words would be of no use, so he stumbled out the door.
"Sing, sing!" Commander Wang clapped his hands and beckoned everyone over.
Everyone breathed a sigh of relief. They hadn't expected that A Lei would set such a trap so secretly. He's not simple-minded.
Qin Xiaoyu was incredibly satisfied with A Lei. He hadn't bothered her lately, and hadn't comforted her after she was frightened; in fact, he had complained a bit. Now she realized that this guy was eager for revenge.
And what did he mean by saying he doesn't like others touching his family? It means he really considers this place his home and doesn't feel like an outsider at all.
Commander Wang sang the first song, and this was a veteran singer whose skills were beyond question, earning a standing ovation.
Seeing that everyone's attention was focused, Qin Xiaoyu sneaked upstairs to the second floor, wanting to talk to A Lei.
“I knew you’d come looking for me.” A Lei sat in the bar on the second floor, a cup of coffee and a glass of red wine on the counter.
"You choose."
"No." Qin Xiaoyu pouted and patted the cake's head twice.
The cake waddled up to her, rubbing against her and nuzzling her. Qin Xiaoyu suddenly realized that the cake smelled the same as A Lei, so it seemed that this young couple had a closer relationship.
"The cake has become your cat." Qin Xiaoyu felt a pang of sadness, remembering how small it was when she first picked it up.
"You Scorpio, you're just jealous even when there's no taste in it. Does it matter whose it is? You're mine, so it should be mine even more." A Lei started spouting cheesy pickup lines again, and for the first time ever, Qin Xiaoyu found it quite pleasant to listen to.
"What exactly did you do to Jing Tian?" Qin Xiaoyu asked curiously.
"I added something to the file. It turns out Jing Tian's background wasn't clean either. When Director Feng sent him out, he paid to have it removed from the file. I got it back. That's not too much to ask, is it?"
"That's not excessive at all. I'd be happy to deal with someone like him no matter what!"
“I think so too. Besides, life has been a bit dull lately. If we keep him here, we can have some fun.”
"Will he keep bothering Wenwen?" Qin Xiaoyu asked worriedly.
“He’s just asking for trouble. I’ve made all the arrangements in Shanghai; he won’t dare go. Do you think I’m some pushover? Before Liberation, he was a big shot in Shanghai. Jing Tian is a spineless coward; now he just wants to escape and never come back. Without him, wouldn’t it be so boring?” A Lei picked up his red wine and took a sip.
"I really feel sorry for Sister-in-law Si. If Jing Tian hadn't made such a fuss, she would have had half a year to process it, and at least she would have been able to accept it more easily. This time it was too sudden," Qin Xiaoyu said sadly.
"It's better to face things sooner rather than later, since we'll have to face them sooner or later." A Lei raised his head, looking somewhere with a hint of confusion in his eyes.
Qin Xiaoyu suddenly remembered what he had said: his parents divorced when he was very young, and his father hid him away. He must have never been by his parents' side since childhood. Compared to her background, it should be similar; both were unfortunate children.
"I still have to praise you. You did a good job that day. Any other woman would have dropped the gun long ago. I was right to trust you." A Lei raised his glass to Qin Xiaoyu.
"How could I dare to throw it on the ground? That was my brother's life." Qin Xiaoyu gave a bitter smile. She still regretted it when she thought about it. It was a matter of life and death.
It's laughable that Jing Tian and his mother could come up with such a terrible idea.
“I used to have a bunch of sisters, uncles, aunts, and cousins, all very powerful people, people who could shake the world with a stomp of their foot. But there was no kinship between them, they just used each other and then threw each other away, sometimes they were worse than strangers. It wasn’t until I came to your family that I realized what a family is like. Everyone has their own place, to give and to receive, like a flowing tai chi." A Lei turned his head, stared into Qin Xiaoyu’s eyes, and said earnestly, “Thank you.”
"Mmm." Before Qin Xiaoyu could even say a polite word, A Lei had already kissed her.
This time, his hands were a bit unruly. Qin Xiaoyu tried to put out the fire by pulling his hands away, and his increasingly restless tongue was already making her feel hot all over, and she couldn't hold on any longer.
"No, someone's coming up." Qin Xiaoyu finally broke free from his clutches, but her body felt weak and she didn't have the strength to escape.
"You're lying to me again. Nobody would believe you." As A Lei said this, he bent down and carried Qin Xiaoyu in a princess carry. Qin Xiaoyu floated lightly in his arms.
