Qin Xiaoye is much more thick-skinned now, but her inherent arrogance remains, though she hides it.
"Tell me what's on your mind," Qin Xiaoye said, still worried about Qin Xiaoyu.
"Xiao Ye, tell me, is it wrong for me to live such a hard life and want everyone to have a better life?"
"It's both wrong and right."
What do you mean by that?
"You're a human being, not a god, so don't try to do godlike things. You also have emotions and desires; you get angry, you're jealous, you feel disgusted—these are all normal reactions. Haven't you noticed that you've been putting on airs the whole time?"
"Holding it on?"
"Yes, it's what adults call being sensible. This kind of sensibleness can be annoying sometimes. I hated you being sensible when I was little. Sometimes, I feel like they're not targeting you personally, just your sensibleness. Your excellence and self-discipline are too hurtful."
"I've never heard of this before. So being sensible and self-disciplined can also be harmful?" Qin Xiaoyu had never heard of this before, but she felt it made sense. Qin Xiaoye's theory was somewhat similar to A Lei's, so she might as well listen to it.
“You’re not living authentically right now, it’s like you’re wearing a mask. But no, you’ve been wearing a mask since you were little, nobody has ever seen the real you.”
Qin Xiaoye's words really struck a chord with Qin Xiaoyu. She did indeed wear a mask because she needed to protect herself; only by wearing a mask could she prevent her vulnerable self from getting hurt.
She suddenly remembered what A Lei had said: Hanhan's sensible nature was pitiful.
She suddenly realized that Hanhan was the second her, bearing pain beyond her years, becoming a sensible child who never complained of being tired or in pain, and only cared about others.
But what about him? Where is that original ten-year-old child? He is the one who needs to be taken care of.
“I read some psychology books, originally hoping to save myself. Some of them might apply to you too. Sister, if you want to be happy, you have to take off your mask and find your true self.” Qin Xiaoye got up and left without waiting for her reply.
Qin Xiaoyu fell into deep thought again.
The relationship between A Lei and her was not as she had imagined; there was a week between them, and that week was her mask.
She said she was either a green tea or a white lotus, which was said in anger, but it wasn't entirely unreasonable.
She can be hypocritical at times; being sensible makes her hypocritical. Under the guise of righteousness, she begins to indulge others in evil without principle or restraint.
Some things were entirely the result of her own weakness, causing harm to others.
A Lei's words came at just the right time; she had become the very thing she hated!
Qin Xiaoyu had never wanted to see A Lei so much as she did now; she was about to explode if she didn't talk to him.
This A Lei is the one who took off her mask, letting her cry and laugh to her heart's content, without caring about other people's opinions. What a wonderful and carefree life this is! She deserves it. Isn't this the kind of life she lives so hard for?
"Factory Manager Qin, someone's looking for you." A female worker called out from the doorway. Qin Xiaoyu walked to the door and understood at a glance.
This is Wang Jian's stepmother, who came to his door with her whole family, including the children who were beaten.
They were smart; they didn't go to the villa. If they had gone straight there, Qi Si probably wouldn't have held back. He had already reached his limit of patience.
"What are you doing? I'm calling the police," Qin Xiaoyu said to Wang Jian's stepmother.
"Call the police, come and arrest them! I want people to see my child beaten like this, and no one cares. You have money, don't you? Just because you have money doesn't mean there's no law? You think you can beat people up as you please?" The woman started throwing a tantrum.
Hearing the commotion outside, the female workers in the factory all put down their work and rushed to the window, crowding together to watch.
"Look, all of you! This is what your factory director Qin did! Her family beat my child, and look! She hit him too!" Wang Jian's stepmother shouted at the top of her lungs.
The baby she was holding was only a few months old. Suddenly startled, the baby started crying loudly, and the courtyard of the garment factory immediately became lively.
"Have the security guard come over and kick them out." Qin Xiaoyu didn't want to resolve this matter in public. There was no way to deal with this kind of person unless they were offered money.
"Dream on! If you don't give me an explanation today, I'm not getting up from here!" Wang Jian's stepmother said, sitting down on the ground.
Qin Xiaoyu turned around and saw a cleaning lady carrying a bucket of water, engrossed in watching the commotion and forgetting to put the bucket down. Qin Xiaoyu stepped forward, snatched it, and, swinging the bucket around, splashed the water on the ground.
It was still cold. After the bucket of water was poured over, a large area of the ground was wet, and Wang Jian's stepmother's clothes were also soaked. She couldn't sit still, so she scrambled to her feet.
"Are you even human? You have money, so you treat us poor people like dirt!" Wang Jian's stepmother was quite good at stirring things up. She thought that most of the people in this factory were poor, and that her words would have an instigating effect.
Unlike the female worker upstairs, who had a different perspective, no one took it personally. She received a monthly salary, bonuses no less than the men's, food and drink, and new clothes. She was always putting on makeup. She wasn't poor at all. If you went out and said she was a worker at the Riyue Garment Factory, people would be incredibly envious.
When Wang Jian's stepmother saw that there was no response after she called out, she couldn't take it anymore. She grabbed the two children by the neck and shoved them into Qin Xiaoyu's arms.
Both children were injured and looked quite pitiful, with bruises and swelling on their faces. They were being choked and struggling to breathe.
Qin Xiaoyu felt a chill run down her spine. This was the second Wang Jian, or Wang Meimei. How many children would be ruined by a family like this?
But Qin Xiaoye's words suddenly popped up, startling her awake: You are not a god, you cannot do the things of a god.
If she hesitates now, it will only lead to future problems, and in the end, it is her most cared-for family members who will be hurt.
"Go call the police," Qin Xiaoyu said resolutely.
"Go ahead and report it. We're all injured anyway, so let's get checked out and you can pay for our recovery."
"Really? Then so be it, Wang Meimei, you don't care, right?" Qin Xiaoyu didn't see Wang Meimei, but she knew without a doubt that she was there. So she deliberately called out loudly to the back.
"Um, let's do it again." Wang Meimei was still a child and easily frightened. She quickly popped out and whispered in Wang Jian's stepmother's ear.
"What are you up to? You clearly said there would be benefits in making a scene here, but now you've gotten nothing and you're just leaving like this?" The stepmother was furious.
"I never said you'd definitely get anything in return. I don't care, I'll just take you to the police station and you'll have to figure things out yourselves." Wang Meimei then took off running.
