Chapter 63 Let's Fight a Few Rounds (Part 1)

The two of them spent a lot of effort changing the lady's clothes and bedding. The lady's injury was in her pelvis, making even the slightest movement difficult; the whole ordeal left her drenched in sweat from the pain. It wasn't that Qin Xiaoyu was blaming anyone, but she genuinely felt that Grandma Hanhan was being a bit inconsiderate.

"I didn't eat well this morning, and my stomach hurt. I really couldn't hold it in any longer, so I went to the toilet," Grandma Hanhan explained softly.

"Mom, the bathroom is right next door, why are you going to go to the toilet?" Qin Xiaoyu said, both amused and exasperated.

"They won't let us use that bathroom," Grandma Hanhan said, glancing at the outer room.

"Why? It's shared by both families."

"She said my poop smells too bad..."

"Bullshit!" Qin Xiaoyu's voice was so loud it startled herself.

"Forget it, Xiaoyu, it's not good to have a falling out with these neighbors." Grandma Hanhan was scared.

"Mom, if we don't teach her a lesson, she'll get even more arrogant." Qin Xiaoyu pushed away Grandma Hanhan and turned to go to the outer room.

"Big sister, can I talk to you about something?" Qin Xiaoyu saw the fat woman stand up from the sofa alertly and took two steps forward without any politeness.

"What is it? Tell me." The fat woman could tell that although the granddaughter-in-law of this family was thin and small and looked frail, she was the most difficult to mess with.

"I've come to thank you. I heard you're going to cover half of my hospital bills?"

"Huh! Who said that? Am I sick? I don't even know you, why would I pay your family's hospital bills!" The fat woman immediately exploded. Not daring to confront Qin Xiaoyu directly, she went straight for Hanhan's grandmother, guessing that it was her who had complained.

"Oh, no, that's not true. It's good that you've made it clear. I heard you took up the bathroom with your family, and I thought you paid half the price as well. The ward is charged by area, and since we don't use it, we won't pay for it."

"Who took it? I didn't say we couldn't use it, it's just that your bathroom is too dirty, and I said a few words, but it's not allowed." The fat woman quickly changed the subject.

"Big sister, you're really funny. Taking a dump in the bathroom is considered dirty? Do you eat in the bathroom at home?" Qin Xiaoyu said with a half-smile.

"How dare you talk like that? You eat in the bathroom! You with the perm, don't think you're so important, you don't deserve to live here! Let me tell you, my old man is a veteran cadre from before the founding of the People's Republic of China. If you disturb his rest, don't blame me for kicking you out!" The fat woman shouted, jumping up and down.

"I see. Then I'll ask the old man how he raises his children. The family's discipline is a bit improper." Qin Xiaoyu turned to the old man lying motionless on the bed. His eyes were closed, and he remained silent.

"This is a hospital! What are you all arguing about? Go outside and argue!" The head nurse barged in with two junior nurses.

"Head Nurse, look at her, she's so arrogant. She doesn't flush the toilet after using it, and when I muttered a few words, she started acting tough and even threatened me!" The fat woman accused the villain first.

"I don't care whose connections you got in through, you have to follow the hospital rules. There are too many patients in the corridor, if you don't want to stay, you can find someone else to come in." The head nurse turned to Qin Xiaoyu and directly berated her.

Qin Xiaoyu's face turned bright red. She clenched her fists, about to lash out, when the door opened again. A middle-aged doctor, accompanied by several junior doctors, rushed in, filling the room instantly.

"Dean Lu, weren't you resting?" the head nurse asked in surprise.

“There’s an emergency, so my vacation has been canceled. Who is Director Feng’s relative?” Dean Lu glanced around the room.

"Dean Lu, it's me. My grandma fell and got hurt. She's here. Could you please take a look?" Qin Xiaoyu quickly took over and led Dean Lu into the house.

The head nurse had no choice but to lead the nurses out, while the fat woman lingered at the door of the suite, looking around dejectedly.

"Which family member will come with me to the office?" Dean Lu asked after finishing the inspection, and Qin Xiaoyu automatically followed.

Dean Lu's opinion was to perform the surgery as soon as possible. After discussing the surgical plan with him, Qin Xiaoyu made the decision. Returning from the dean's office, she passed the head nurse in the corridor. From her disdainful gaze, Qin Xiaoyu gleaned a message: the matter wasn't over yet.

She did a quick analysis and concluded that the head nurse wasn't a bad person; she was just being manipulated by the fat woman. Relatively speaking, the head nurse was quite upright and incorruptible; she wasn't suppressed by the hospital director's power and had her own opinions. If today's matter wasn't resolved, the Tang family would suffer in the future. Everyone knew the nurse's injection technique; elderly people have poor veins, and it was easy for her to get a few injections, which would put them in a very passive position later. Grandma Hanhan was a typical bully at home, but a doormat outside. Qin Xiaoyu couldn't stay at the hospital every day; the Tang family would be driven crazy. She had to eliminate this worry.

"Head Nurse, I have something to say to you." Qin Xiaoyu walked up to the head nurse, meeting her gaze, and said in a humble yet assertive manner.

"What did you say? Which leader sent this message?" The head nurse's words were laced with sarcasm.

"No, I just have something to say."

The head nurse showed no intention of talking to her and kept walking forward, so Qin Xiaoyu had no choice but to follow beside her.

"I'm very busy. If you need anything, contact the nurses. Your issues are not within my job scope."

"But you just stepped in, so it's now within your jurisdiction, right?"

"What do you mean?"

What I mean is, if you're going to take charge, you have to see it through to the end.

The two women stopped and faced each other in the corridor, creating a tense atmosphere.

“I know you look down on us and think we used connections to squeeze into the VIP ward, and that we are not worthy.”

"Whether you're qualified or not is another matter. There are so many critically ill patients, and many who have been waiting in line for a long time. Why should you be admitted just because you make a phone call?" The head nurse was indeed outspoken.

“Well said. I admit we were in the wrong. But we're all human, and I had no choice but to do this out of compassion and reason. The woman lying there isn't just your grandmother, she's my grandmother. The feelings are different…”

"Stop spouting this nonsense!" The head nurse, no longer wanting to listen, turned to leave.

"Listen to me before you leave." Qin Xiaoyu grabbed her sleeve and continued, "Yes, my grandmother wasn't a hero before liberation, she didn't have any great achievements. She only had a few children and did housework for decades. To others, her life wasn't important at all. But you also have a grandmother and a mother, they are just like my grandmother. Don't you care about them? If something happened to them, wouldn't you do everything in your power, even if it goes against your principles, to save them? Is that wrong?"

The head nurse neither spoke nor left; she bit her lip, seemingly wanting to say something but holding back.

"I just hope my family can be treated fairly," Qin Xiaoyu said, staring into her eyes and emphasizing each word.

"To receive fair treatment, one must improve their conduct..."
