Chapter 64 Let's Fight for a Few Rounds (Part 2)

"Please allow me to interrupt, this is too harsh. Speaking of manners, I don't believe that some people who consider themselves of noble birth are necessarily of high quality, or that my ordinary in-laws are inherently inferior. Although they may not have received much education and haven't seen much of the world, they are honest and law-abiding people. I personally taught my mother-in-law how to use the toilet, and she learned it and tries very hard not to make mistakes. So please don't make preconceived notions." Qin Xiaoyu was unyielding, and the head nurse was clearly on the defensive.

“That’s not right either. You two have no grudge against each other, so why would she target you? Besides, she got along very well with the other patients she shared a room with before, so why can’t she tolerate you?” The head nurse still didn’t believe that Qin Xiaoyu’s family had been wronged.

"Ha, the patients you shared a room with before were either bureau chiefs or city leaders, right? How could you not get along? To put it bluntly, if my family were also relatives of leaders now, would this have happened?"

The fat woman peeked furtively out of the room, only to be caught red-handed by the head nurse. Feeling guilty, she retreated back inside.

"I understand. Let's get along well from now on. After all, we're in the hospital, so let's respect each other." The head nurse's tone softened.

"Thank you, I just want fairness. Please treat everyone equally, thank you." Qin Xiaoyu breathed a sigh of relief. It was true that the straightforward Bao Bao was easy to get along with.

Back in the ward, she gave Hanhan's grandmother a few more instructions, reminding her that the fat woman wouldn't give up so easily. Just then, her cousin-in-law returned from shopping, so Qin Xiaoyu had a chance to go home and check on the children, who were about to have lunch.

As soon as she stepped outside, she sensed something was wrong; the air was thick with the smell of smoke. She hurriedly pushed open the gate and rushed inside. A pane of glass in her door was shattered, and thick smoke billowed out. She quickly unlocked the door, and Hanhan and her younger sister rushed out and threw themselves into her arms.

"What happened?" Qin Xiaoyu quickly carried the two children to a smoke-free area.

"The coal is wet, and it keeps smoking no matter how I burn it. I tried to suppress the fire, but I couldn't." Hanhan's eyes were full of grievance, and tears were welling up in her eyes.

That's too dangerous.

Qin Xiaoyu was so frightened that her legs went weak. She let go of the two children, covered her nose, and went into the house to check. Someone had poured water on the coal bucket. Fortunately, the two children were not asleep, otherwise they might have suffered carbon monoxide poisoning and never woke up again.

In winter, fearing drafts, the windows were covered with paper and two layers of plastic sheeting. Unable to open the window, Hanhan had to break the glass door to save herself. This bought her and her younger sister some time.

Qin Xiaoyu took a deep breath, rushed into the kitchen, grabbed a cleaver, and ran towards the west room.

The television was on in the west room, and it was very loud. My uncle and aunt were sitting side by side with their backs to the door, and they didn't hear anyone coming in at all.

Qin Xiaoyu slammed her knife into the wooden coffee table, and with a force she didn't know she had, a crack appeared in the table surface. Her uncle and aunt both jumped up.

"Little Fish, what are you doing? Have you gone mad?" Uncle shouted anxiously and angrily.

"Shut up. I'm only talking to her today." Qin Xiaoyu's gloomy gaze swept over him, and his uncle automatically shut his mouth.

"Get out! This is my house! Don't cause trouble here!" The old lady was still quite tough. Well, with such a scoundrel of a husband, who could do anything to her?

"Your house, right? Believe me or not, I'll smash your house to pieces!" Qin Xiaoyu grabbed a teapot and threw it at the TV. There was a loud bang, and a big hole appeared in the TV. A few flames flickered and then went out.

"Ah! You, you!" The eldest uncle couldn't stand it anymore. He hadn't gotten anything from the division of the family property this time. This TV was a second-hand item, and Qin Xiaoyu had just smashed it. How could he swallow this insult?

"I'll tell you the truth today: I, Qin Xiaoyu, have died once. My life was given to me by Hanhan. If anything happens to him, I won't let anyone off the hook. I'll chase him to the ends of the earth and avenge him. We'll just have to spend the rest of our lives together, and neither of us will have a single day of comfort!" Qin Xiaoyu picked up the kitchen knife again. This time, her uncle ran faster than anyone else, and in a flash, he was in the yard. He saw the two children huddled together, trembling, and thick smoke billowing from Qin Xiaoyu's house. He immediately understood that he lacked confidence and dared not say anything more.

"It's because you didn't leave me a way out," the old woman finally said.

"Give me a break. Where is there no way to make a living? You never go to the hospital, you don't take care of your mother-in-law, you just eat and drink well at home, you're spoiled!" The uncle straightened his attitude and immediately changed his tone, but he didn't dare to come in, so he cursed at the door.

"You old geezer, come in here! Someone's shitting on your neck, and you're still taking the outsider's side!" The old lady finally found her match. She rushed to the door in two steps. The old man tried to run away when he saw that things were not going well, but she chased him all over the yard.

Qin Xiaoyu had achieved her goal; she didn't need to risk her promising future with a crazy old man—she simply couldn't afford to. She took her two children with her and went to a hairdressing school.

"Why do you smell so much of smoke, little brother and sister?" Tian Tian asked, puzzled.

"Don't ask anymore. You can take care of these two children. I have to go back to the hospital after lunch." Qin Xiaoyu was currently overwhelmed.

The younger sister was feeling a bit drowsy and almost fell asleep during lunch. Qin Xiaoyu took her to the dormitory, took off her clothes, and put her on the bed, where she quickly fell asleep.

Hanhan followed Qin Xiaoyu like a little tail, somewhat silent. Qin Xiaoyu squatted down and gently patted his head.

"Mom." Hanhan suddenly reached out and hugged her neck, sobbing softly.

"My son is so brave, he saved his sister." Qin Xiaoyu hugged him tightly and gently patted his back.

"Mom, I'm scared."

"Yes, I'm scared. I'd be scared too if I were you. But with me here, I won't let you be scared anymore."
