Chapter 70 Repaying Evil with Kindness

"Go back to sleep, this is terrible! Don't get too well, or you'll collapse again." My sister-in-law was so worried she didn't know what to say.

"You didn't get any sleep either, did you, with those two kids?" Qin Xiaoyu said apologetically.

"Your two kids are so easy to take care of, why would I have trouble sleeping? By the way, little sister, do you need an IV drip today? You should go back and get some sleep, you have to go to the military hospital this afternoon." Her cousin-in-law pushed Qin Xiaoyu out.

"Sister Qin, your child needs an IV drip? Why don't you come to our hospital instead of running back and forth?" The nurse had just inserted the needle into the woman's arm when she heard them chatting and struck up a conversation.

"It's hard to get an appointment at the pediatrics department here."

"Didn't I already prescribe the medicine? Just bring it over and light it in the ward," the nurse said with a smile.

"Huh? That works too?" Qin Xiaoyu asked in astonishment.

“Why not? I’ll talk to the head nurse and ask her to bring the child this afternoon. It’s better to get the IV drip in this room than in the observation room; there’s no risk of cross-infection.”

Qin Xiaoyu was still a little skeptical of the nurse's overly assertive attitude. This was quite different from her attitude yesterday when she shouted "Catch the thief!" What was going on?

Qin Xiaoyu wrote down the medicine her wife needed on a list and gave it to her sister-in-law. The instructions for one of the medicines were a little unclear, so she picked up the medicine box and went to the nurses' station to ask.

Because it was morning, almost all the nurses were busy in the dispensing room. The door was ajar, and as soon as Qin Xiaoyu reached the door, she heard people inside talking about them.

"Sister Qin from 308 is such a good person, she repays evil with kindness. That fat woman treated her so badly, but she doesn't hold a grudge."

"Really? I heard she's a widow?"

"That's right, no wonder she's so capable. She's so young and widowed with two kids, she has to be incredibly strong to survive!"

"I think her in-laws treat her well."

"If you don't treat this daughter-in-law well, why wait for her to remarry and leave? Her temper is similar to our head nurse's; she confronts things head-on, but she's kind-hearted..."

Qin Xiaoyu was extremely embarrassed and had no choice but to turn around and think she would come back to ask later. Unexpectedly, she bumped into the head nurse, who also looked embarrassed. These two were the subject of gossip and were of similar status. They looked at each other and smiled awkwardly before hurriedly going their separate ways.

In the afternoon, Qin Xiaoyu brought her younger sister over. The nurse quickly applied the medicine without saying a word and kept calling her "Sister Qin," telling her to speak up if she needed anything. She was also very polite to the Tang family.

The Tang family was utterly flattered.

"Our Xiaoyu is so capable." Grandma Hanhan had long forgotten when she called Qin Xiaoyu a jinx; she was only focused on holding Qin Xiaoyu's hand and looking at her, unable to get enough of her.

“That’s right, his grandfather picked it for him, how could it be wrong?” the wife immediately added insult to injury.

"That's right, that's right, my dad has the best eye." Grandpa Hanhan also sighed. To be honest, he was unwilling to help last night, but he did it under Qin Xiaoyu's insistence, and he felt quite relieved.

"Huh? Where's the old man in the outer room?" When Qin Xiaoyu brought the brother and sister in, she was in such a flurry that she only glanced at them and thought the old man was not there. She assumed he had gone out for a check-up, but after a while, she realized something was wrong.

"It seems they've been discharged; they can't stay here any longer," Grandma Hanhan snorted.

"Oh, he's been discharged." Qin Xiaoyu felt a pang of sadness as she thought of the old man's tearful eyes yesterday.

"Sister Qin, someone's looking for you," the nurse called out as she ran in.

Qin Xiaoyu went out the door and saw a middle-aged man in a wool coat waiting there. He was wearing gold-rimmed glasses and had a serious expression, so he seemed to be someone of high status.

"I am Qin Xiaoyu. You're looking for me?" Qin Xiaoyu was inexplicably nervous.

"My father asked me to give this to you. Thank you for your care. My father's name and phone number are on this. He asked me to tell you that if you encounter any big problems that no one else can solve, be sure to contact him, and he will take care of it for you."

The middle-aged man handed over a slip of paper, nodded, and turned to leave. Qin Xiaoyu glanced at the name on it: Lei Bingzheng, followed by a phone number.

Wow, that's quite a boast. He's practically bursting to pee, and he's already offering to do something important for others. Qin Xiaoyu shook her head with a smile, crumpled up the note, and stuffed it into her pocket.

Everything settled down after that. The younger sister received IV fluids for two more days, and her condition stabilized, so she no longer needed to go to the hospital. Xiuqin returned from another county specifically to look after the children, freeing Qin Xiaoyu from her daily routine of running between school and the hospital.

As soon as she arrived at the orthopedics department that day, she saw Zhou Xing slowly walking towards her from the opposite side. Remembering how much he had helped her last time, Qin Xiaoyu couldn't ignore him, so she went up to greet him.

"Oh, your relative is hospitalized here? I'm here to visit my classmate. I'm leaving now." Zhou Xing ran faster than a rabbit, looking like he'd been caught in the act.

Qin Xiaoyu couldn't believe this wasn't a chance encounter. Could it be that his younger sister hadn't gone to the military hospital for her IV drip, and he was worried and came to check on her?

But she quickly dismissed the idea, thinking, "Don't be delusional. Who would care about Zhou Xing?"

My wife's condition improved rapidly, and the doctor said they would try to discharge her on New Year's Eve. My wife was in a better mood and started finding fault with things.

"Wenwen hasn't shown up at all; that girl isn't close to me anymore."

“Madam, as I told you, Wenwen is studying out of town and can’t come back for a while. She called to ask about the situation at home, but I didn’t mention your surgery. Tickets are hard to buy now, so there’s no use for her coming back. I’m here for you.” Qin Xiaoyu immediately made an excuse for Tang Wenwen.

Tang Wenwen went away to study for one reason, but there was another reason: she was depressed after her breakup and needed a change of environment to heal. That's why Qin Xiaoyu didn't tell her about his wife's hospitalization.

"Is Longlong's dad coming back soon?" The wife was quite concerned.

"Soon, he'll be back soon." My cousin-in-law was also looking forward to her husband's return, counting down the days. This time, the factory director took Tang Long's father with him to a meeting in the south, which is a good omen. Putting aside whether he gets promoted to deputy workshop director, this kind of favor is rare.

In the past, this would have been something they wouldn't have dared to dream of, let alone something that happened to a lowly worker. Therefore, his family was even more grateful to Qin Xiaoyu, wishing they could treat her like royalty.

"Xiaoyu, you can go to school. There's too much work to do there."

Grandma Hanhan was concerned about something else entirely. Her wife was hospitalized, and the money was flowing out like water. This was all Qin Xiaoyu's hard-earned money, and it pained her to see it go.

"I'll go take a look and be back this afternoon."

"Sister Qin is leaving?"

When Qin Xiaoyu came out of the orthopedics department, she met several nurses in the corridor who greeted her with smiles. She is now extremely popular.

"The New Year is almost here, why don't you come to my place and get your hair done?" Qin Xiaoyu sincerely invited them, feeling bad about troubling these young girls with so many things lately.

"Really? I heard your hairdressing school is amazing, I really want to check it out." The nurses were all amused by this.

"Go ahead, just go when you're off duty. It's okay, I'll make arrangements even when I'm not there." Qin Xiaoyu glanced at the head nurse's office and winked at the junior nurses, saying, "Call them all."

The nurse understood immediately.

The young girls dragged and pulled the head nurse to Qin Xiaoyu. The two smiled at each other, all their past grievances forgotten, and they became friends.
