“When the children are older, you can come over to our place for a get-together. My mother-in-law is still here, but she's not in good health and can't go out. You can go and see her.”
"Okay, Mom, don't rush off. I'll prepare some gifts for Grandma as a token of my appreciation." Qin Xiaoyu really didn't want her mother to leave, but she also understood that there was a large family over there, and she couldn't just take her away from her.
The mother and daughter parted reluctantly. Fearing that her daughter's continued emotional distress would affect her health, Xiaoyu's mother could only leave with lingering reluctance.
That evening, my third uncle suddenly called and asked directly if Xiaoyu's mother had come over.
"Did she ask you for the address?" Qin Xiaoyu guessed.
"Yes, she said she wanted to see her grandson. So I gave her the address. She didn't say anything, did she?"
"She said she never abandoned me." Qin Xiaoyu felt a pang of sadness and almost burst into tears as she said this.
"That puts my mind at ease. You two are both stubborn, but you're clearly both thinking about each other. Also, there's something she's been preventing me from telling you. I don't want to hide it from you anymore, though. When you asked me to partner with you in business, the money I used was all from her, she just wouldn't let me say. Where was I supposed to get so much money?"
After her third uncle hung up the phone, Qin Xiaoyu's tears flowed uncontrollably again.
A Lei came in from outside and was startled.
"What happened? Did your mother say something?" A Lei had already heard that Qin Xiaoyu's mother had come and wanted to ask her, but seeing this, he guessed that it was related to this matter.
"I never knew she had always loved me," Qin Xiaoyu said, her voice choked with emotion, finally putting A Lei's mind at ease.
Strangely enough, that very night, when Qin Xiaoyu woke up to drink some water, she found the front of her pajamas was wet. In disbelief, she reached to the bedside and picked up Xiao Jiajia.
Only when little Jiajia happily started nursing did she excitedly call A Lei to get up and look.
A Lei is a very alert sleeper. Hearing her voice, he sat up immediately. Seeing that Xiao Jiajia was nursing, he jumped to the ground and hugged Qin Xiaoyu tightly.
This was fantastic news, and the whole family was overjoyed.
When Zhou Xing's mother heard Qin Xiaoyu talk about her mother, she also shed tears. Knowing that Qin Xiaoyu was coming again today, she made arrangements to treat her well.
"I have two bottles of good wine, brought all the way from the Northeast. Take them to your stepfather." Commander Zhou began preparing the gift.
"I just haven't decided what gift to give Grandma," Qin Xiaoyu said, troubled. Grandma Fu was such a kind person, and Qin Xiaoyu was truly grateful to her. She just wanted to give her a gift that could express her feelings.
"I haven't worn the few outfits you had the factory order for me last time. Pick one and take it." The wife was dozing in the sunlight, but she had heard every word of their conversation. Her sudden words startled them.
"Madam, are you really willing to wear this?" Qin Xiaoyu teased her. When the clothes were brought back, she loved them so much that she was reluctant to wear them.
"You should be grateful; this family is truly kind. You should thank them properly." These are all kind people who know how to repay kindness.
Qin Xiaoyu went up to take a look and picked out a royal blue satin vest with a swastika pattern. This vest is suitable for all body types, and even older people can wear it.
Young people probably don't understand the importance of vests for older people. As people get older, their bodies become heavier, and they're even reluctant to lift their arms. Wearing a padded jacket can feel stiff, but not wearing one leaves the front and back drafty, so a vest is the most suitable option.
Xiaoyu's mother came over in the afternoon, her eyes still a little swollen, probably from crying again after she got home. She was carrying a lot of things, for the children and the elderly.
"Thank you for loving Xiaoyu on my behalf." Xiaoyu's mother held Zhou Xing's mother's hand, her eyes filled with tears.
"It's not for your sake." After saying this, Zhou Xing's mother couldn't stop her tears. Commander Zhou got up and walked out.
"Come here, Hanhan, little sister." The children weren't home when Xiaoyu's mom came yesterday, but they're waiting obediently at home today.
“Little sister, didn’t you ask me why everyone else has a maternal grandmother but you don’t? This is your maternal grandmother.” Qin Xiaoyu pushed her little sister over.
“Yes, I am your maternal grandmother.” Little Fish’s mother reached out and pulled her into her arms.
The younger sister hugged her tightly, looked her over carefully, and then said, "You look just like Mom."
"That's true," Zhou Xing's mother agreed. Qin Xiaoyu had always felt that she resembled her father, which bothered her. Now that she's older, she feels more and more like her mother.
Ah Lei, the son-in-law, officially made his debut. Xiao Yu's mother had heard about him before and was naturally very satisfied. The meal was very pleasant. Before leaving, Xiao Yu's mother promised to come and see her again soon, and with that promise, Qin Xiao Yu was content.
Qin Xiaoye came over with a bag of things she had knitted. There were hats and gloves for Hanhan and her younger sister, and socks for Xiaojiajia. There's a tradition in the North: "Aunt's shoes, Aunt's socks." This means that a child's first pair of socks is bought by their aunt.
"You're so skillful, it looks beautiful!" Qin Xiaoyu continued rummaging through the bag, and she saw a light gray scarf, which she pulled out.
"Sis, this is for you." Qin Xiaoye smiled gently. Qin Xiaoyu quickly went to the mirror to check herself out, and to her surprise, she looked quite good. She glanced back and saw a dark blue bag in her purse.
Before she could go over and look, Qin Xiaoye had already pulled it out; it was also a scarf.
For some reason, Qin Xiaoyu felt a little uncomfortable.
"This is for my brother-in-law." Qin Xiaoye's smile was somewhat unnatural.
It seems like the whole family received a gift, but why does Qin Xiaoyu feel that all the gifts are just an accessory to this blue scarf?
Her Scorpio instincts kicked in. Holding the scarf, she hesitated to speak.
"It's getting a bit chilly, give this to your brother-in-law to keep him warm," Qin Xiaoye couldn't help but explain.
"No need, thank you. I'll give you the warmth your brother-in-law showed me." Qin Xiaoyu put the blue scarf back in her bag and gently zipped it up for her.
"Oh." Tears welled up in Qin Xiaoye's eyes instantly. She couldn't speak anymore, grabbed her bag, and hurriedly ran out.
"Wasn't Xiao Ye here just now? Why aren't you eating here?" Zhou Xing's mother came out of the kitchen.
"I'm not eating here." Qin Xiaoyu stood at the window watching Qin Xiaoye's back. Her long hair was blown by the wind, flying wildly and messily.
"What's wrong? What did she say that made you unhappy?" Zhou Xing's mother noticed that Qin Xiaoyu was in a bad mood.
"Mom, it's okay," Qin Xiaoyu comforted her before going upstairs.
A Lei was playing with Xiao Jiajia by the bed when he saw her come in and her expression was off, so he paused for a moment.
"Am I being too paranoid lately?" Qin Xiaoyu slumped onto the bed, feeling frustrated.
“No, you’re not being suspicious.” A Lei walked over and leaned down to kiss her on the cheek.
"You mean..." Qin Xiaoyu sensed something amiss.
"Yes, didn't you notice I've been avoiding her?"
"Okay, I get it. Is being a mistress really hereditary?" Qin Xiaoyu sat up angrily.
"Maybe it will affect her values. She doesn't think she will hurt you; she thinks that as long as she stays quiet and doesn't bother you, it will be fine." A Lei shook his head helplessly.
